  • What is the advantage of using Vienna Ensemble Pro AU3 over Multi-output?

    Hi everyone,

I use VEPro 7 with Logic Pro. I have the option to use either Vienna Ensemble Pro AU3 as Multi-timbral or Vienna Ensemble Pro as Multi-output. I prefer multi-output so I can control the faders in Logic's mixers and there isn't a multi-output option for the AU3 version.  Since both options seem to work on my M2 Max running Rosetta 2, I am wondering what the advantage of the AU3 version is over the VEPro Multi-output. I currently don't see any.

  • You have clearly listed the advantages of using the normal VEP Pro instead of the AU version.  I think the AU version was created to allow more than 16 channels in Logic but as you mentioned if you cannot individually mix those in Logic this is of little use.

I usually organize VEP in orchestral sections and if there are more than 16 instruments or instruments + articulation groups I just create 2-3 VEP instances. Never needed more till now as I switched back to one channel per instrument to facilitate use in Dorico.
