  • Vienna Ensemble 6 and 7 in Finale not appearing at the same time

Hello - I want to insert both VE 6 and VE 7 in my Finale VST banks so that I can load my legacy VSL instruments inside 6 and my Synchron instruments inside 7, but it seems that no matter how many times I rescan my VST folders, Finale will only recognize one or the other, not both at the same time. Unless I'm missing something, VE 6 will not see Synchron instruments and VE 7 will ONLY see Synchron instruments, at least on my setup. I need both at the same time.

    Hi David,

I checked your licenses and you have not activated your regular iLok licenses yet.

Here is more information for you regarding license management!

Check out the screenshots below the video to learn how to open a cloud session.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hello David!

Using Vienna Ensemble 6 (eLicenser) and Vienna Ensemble 7 (iLok) at the same time doesn't work. All of your legacy instruments are available as iLok versions and can be used with Vienna Ensemble 7. I recommend installing the iLok versions of your software and libraries. As Paul has mentioned above, please activate your licenses with the iLok Manager.

    Best regards,
    Andi

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply. I went into iLok Manager and activated my legacy instruments using the cloud, and then reinstalled VE 7, but I still have the same issue. I can get both VE 6 and VE 7 to open at the same time as standalone instances, but VE 6 has no option for inserting an instance of the Synchron Player and VE 7 has no option for inserting an instance of Vienna Instruments. Also (and more importantly for me as I work almost exclusively inside Finale), even after rescanning for VST plugins in Finale I cannot get Finale to show both of them inside VST Banks & Effects. Finale only displays the Vienna Ensemble I most recently reinstalled (in this case VE 7). Is it because both .DLL files have the same name?

I have a feeling that the problem is that when I reinstall one or the other (VE 6 or 7), the installation is writing over the VE DLL file that was already in my default VST2 plugins folder. Do I need to put the VE 6 and VE 7 VST2 files in separate folders?

Thanks, Andi - see the reply I just posted to Paul's message. There is no way I can see to insert an instance of Vienna Instruments inside Vienna Ensemble 7, but for me the more important issue is that even after activating my legacy licenses in the cloud with iLok Manager and reinstalling VE 7, I still only see one listing of Vienna Ensemble inside VST Banks & Effects within Finale.

  • Hello David!

It's normal that you only see one Vienna Ensemble plugin. That's the way it should be. Installing one Vienna Ensemble version will overwrite the other - at least the plugins. I advice against making experiments with having both plugins installed. This has a high potential of becoming a big mess.

I have attached a screenshot where you can see how to add Vienna Instruments Pro with Vienna Ensemble 7 (iLok).

  • Hi Andi - no screenshot appears attached to your message.....

  • Hi David!

Oh sorry. I'm not at the office anymore. You can add Vienna Instruments Pro with the third button at the bottom right (virtual instrument plug-ins). Depending on what you have registered, it might also be the second button.

  • Thanks - I'm using plain vanilla Vienna Ensemble 7 and not VE Pro 7. I've looked everywhere around the screen over and over and there is no mechanism for inserting a VI instance, only a Synchron Player instance. Is this one of the things that VE 7 Pro provides that basic VE 7 doesn't?

  • Hi David,

Right click in the left pane (after creating an instance). The top choice should be Insert VI Pro.

  • Hi Bill - I use neither Vienna Instruments Pro nor Vienna Ensemble Pro, so I have to assume that's my problem. :)  I have scoured the entire surface of plain old Vienna Ensemble 7 and right clicked everywhere and there is no way to insert plain old Vienna Instruments into it - just Synchron Player.

  • Hello David!

Vienna Ensemble 7 (free) can of course add Vienna Instruments Pro. You don't need to have a license for Vienna Instruments Pro. It's free since we have switched to iLok. If it isn't available in Vienna Ensemble, you probably don't have it installed. You can install Vienna Instruments Pro with the Vienna Assistant.

  • P.S. You will need Vienna Instruments Pro (iLok) installed. Vienna Ensemble 7 (iLok) will not load Vienna Instruments (eLicenser) or Vienna Instruments Pro (eLicenser).

Hi Andi - I have VE 7 and VI Pro downloaded and installed via Vienna Assistant, and I'm still not seeing any way inside VE 7 to load VI Pro - just the Synchron Player, same as before. Should the iLok Manager be showing a line for VI Pro, even though it doesn't require a license (it's not showing it)? I'm very confused at this point....

    Thanks again -
    DG

  • .....and now I see that VI Pro can't see any of my legacy Special Edition instruments, either the standalone version or the VST version inside Finale 26.  :-(  I confirmed in the iLok Manager that their licenses are all activated under iLok.

  • OK, I finally figured out how to insert an instance of VI Pro into VE 7 - by right clicking, then clicking on Insert Plugin, then clicking on VI Pro.
