  • Good Books??

do you guys know any recent (within last couple years) books dedicated to virtual instrument production?

    thanks

  • I'm not sure about books, but I'm sure about this:

If you start collecting these, you'll have a great book eventually...

  • I second that. I recently bought a Dual 2.7 G5. I started playing around with Garage Band just a little. I then happened to thumb through my first issue of VI Mag and there's a great informative article about it which I hadn't read before since I wasn't aquainted the program. Also I'm currently re-reading the Dave Govett article on Gigapulse because I'm going to start using it more intensely. Indeed there was plenty in the article I didn't get the first time and now is crystal clear.

Great resource so save each issue. It blows away all other pretenders because Nick Batzdorf is an old pro at the magazine game and got it note perfect with VI.

  • Here's the VI website as shown above. I'm sure there's a contact feature where you can contact Nick and order the first issue if it's availble.

  • Are you all familiar with the wonderful book, "The Guide to MIDI Orchestration (3rd edition) by Paul Gilreath? It is extremely well laid out, very thoughtful, thorough in it's presentation and still relevant to the topics at hand. I have used as a contant companion.

In it Paul discusses everything from orchestration to templates,plug-in's,reviews of libraries, mixing techniques etc...

I have found it to be an invaluable resource. Check it out!

  • Didn't realise the book was that extensive Robert - I'll have a look.

  • Thanks Mr. Connor.

I agree about Paul's book. Coincidentally we're actually reviewing it in our next issue (not the one about to go to the printer, the one after that).
