  • Questions about the new user interface

    Hello,

I am very computer-illiterate. So I want to check if I understand this all properly.

Some questions about the VI user interface:
Of course it looks very composer-friendly.
I now run Giga3 on a pc, connected to my Mac G5 on which I run Logic 7.
Can this new interface replace Giga, I mean is it another (very nice) software-sampler? If I run it on a pc, will it be able to hold more samples than it does now? Will the 24 bit samples use more ram and more place on the hard disc?

I have some commissions for orchestral works now. Will the VI be able to load complete orchestral set-ups? I only heard single instruments and some chamber strings in the videos.

It looks as if Macs are the most logical to use with the SC, because they can hold much more samples. I don't like to run everything on one computer though, so I would have to buy a new G5 to run the new VSL.
(problem here is that Apple will discontinue to use IBM chips next year, and replace them with Intel chips. Not the right time to buy a G5 now, it seems).
But I will probably buy another Mac, put in a big disc (anybody knows what discs of more than 500 Gb (because + OSX) that would be the best choice etc?). I will then keep my pc with Giga to run 'old' VSL.

Does this mean I have to 'side-grade' to a new platform?
Will I still be able to use my old Giga3 VSL?
On the videos I cannot see any 'technical' button, like Midi in-out, Ports etc. There must be some 'connections' page?

I thought there was some talk about this library beeing sold on hard-disc.
I don't see anything about that anymore.

    Greetings,

    G. Beljon
