  • Upgrade from Horizon Woodwinds to VI Woodwinds (I&II)

(prices are in euro; I assume that Extended Edition will cost 30 euro to upgraders and an upgrade fron Horizon WW to VI WW will effectively exist).

    Case 1

Horizon Woodwinds at Holiday price (270 euro), then -> upgrade to VI Woodwinds I&II:
    270 + 495 + 30 + 425 + 30 = 1.250

    Case 2

Horizon Woodwinds at Full price (415 euro), then -> upgrade to VI Woodwinds I&II:
    415 + 495 + 30 + 425 +30 = 1.395

VI Woodwinds I&II bundle would cost a new user 2.060 euro: should a new user buy Woodwinds I & II "from scratch"? No, he/she would have no reason to do this.

2.060 euro sounds as a "symbolic" price to empty the stocks...

  • Sorry, you've lost me.

Would they not also have to buy French Oboe and have the Pro-Edition woodwind content to get the full discounts on the extended edition?

    Just a thought.

  • You´re correct, Colin.

  • To get the full discount on the extended set would we also need to own Woodwind ensembles (in addition to the full pro edition) ???

    meaning -

    Already own Pro Edition
    Already own French oboe.
    Already own Chamber Strings
    Already own Epic Horns

    Buying Standard Symph cube VI.

To get the full discount is woodwind ensembles also required ???

  • Why would you need Epic Horns?

  • Just was listing what I own. Trying to get a super accurate total amount for this upgrade. I have been up all night trying to print really great $100 bills on my laser printer. No luck yet but .... it's probably the only way I could afford the symph Cube at this point. [:D]

    [[:|]]

839 euro (Pro Woodwinds and Brass at Holiday Price) + 172 (French Oboe at Holiday Price) + 415 (Horizon Woodwinds at Holiday Price) + 495 + 30 + 425 + 30 = 2.406 euro instead of 2.060 for the new user package?

    or

    839 (rebated Pro WW) + 495 + 30 + 425 + 30 = 1.819 euro instead of 2.060?

It would be a 11,6% discount...

  • For the moment I cannot understand anything without the Discount Calculator being active:
That's quite complicated, even for the VSL team.
Should we buy now all the horizon libraries except guitars, glass, and a few others to be able to qualify for the 30€ upgrade ?

As far as I understand (and if the price policy wont change) you should mostly buy the horizon samples now becuase you a) what them now b) see the value in having them even after the uprade and lastly c) to save a few bucks.

You wont be saving huge sums (as I initially thought). You will save about €30-60 per package. Take Chamber strings for instance. If you buy that now at the reduced price and then later upgrade, you will save about €45 in all, as opposed to just buying the VI directly. Again this is how I understand it, I may be wrong or done my math poorly

  • OK Christian, if you're right, the price is not that much reduced if we order now…
What about the Symphonic Cube Early Bird Offer ?
Is it just getting an organ for free ?
No reduction for those who will pay the whole pack now ?

  • You save about €360 if you get the full Cube at once, as opposed to buying every single collection individualy. This is disregarding VIP prices etc - I cant calculate that... if I could there would be no need for the calculator [:D] So the above is for someone owning nothing.

Again - if my calculations are correct

The other benefit with that route Christian is that you will have the open samples for use with GS or whatever as well as all the same samples (+ 100% more) with the Full VI.

  • True. I've never been a tweaker myself though. I add some EQ, and some good verb and I'm off [:)]

me neither - in fact you do twice as much tweaking as I do.

One thing just occured to me though and that is the range of some instruments. These won't be able to be strecthed in the VI which you can of course curently do in GS with the open samples. Small point for most but big issue for me with the tuba which doesn't go the full pro/soloist range [:(] (and still no euphonium [:'(] )

  • Dave get a copy of Melodyne! [H]

If it's of any interest at all, I own Solo & Chamber Strings Plus the Opus bundle.
In my own calculations I came to the conclusion that it would only be worth buying the 'old' Pro Edition if I felt I could also afford to upgrade to the full extended VI. I think I guesstimated the saving at somewhere around £1200. But it means that I would be spending something like £7K if I remember rightly - I'll have to check those figures again when I have a moment, but it's not looking very promising for me. At best I may wade in with the Standard Edition of VI to get a foot in and upgrade very gradually from there.

One thing that did disappoint me though was when I checked out the comparison chart for, say, Solo Strings. If I buy that at the standard price, I don't seem to get nearly the number of articulations I have already in the Horizon package. So it really only seems worth buying if I can pay for the full Ext.version. Likewise, I feel there's little point investing in the reduced Horizon packages unless:
    a) You're happy to stick with the 'old' technology and working methods
    b) You can afford to upgrade them FULLY later on.

I wasn't happy to wade in with the pricing debate that's been going on and was erring on the side of VSL, but I'm beginning to feel that it's not been particularly well organised, both with the VIP pricing policy and the distribution of the articulations throughout the packages so far.

I would so like to have it
