  • Would moving from 'Pro' to 'Standard' be an upgrade?

    I haven’t read all the posts regarding the pricing of VI, so apologies if my observation has already been made.

    It seems that most complaints stem from the fact there is a universal price for the ‘standard’ edition with VIP discounts applying only to the ‘extended’ edition. This means that Pro-edition users cannot economically ‘upgrade’ to the standard edition – thus the disgruntlement.

    But surely the move from Pro-edition to Standard VI is not entirely an upgrade – presumably some articulations would be lost.

    I think the problem has arisen because of the use of the term ‘standard’ to apply to what is a cut down version of the complete product. It might have been better for the complete edition to be called the ‘standard’ and the cut down version (i.e. the actual standard version) the ‘light’. This ’light’ version would then only be seen for what it actually is: an entry point for new users and a means of cutting in the dealers - but of no real concern to current Pro users.

    Even the VI Standard Edition is a big library and the number of samples is about the same as in the existing, corresponding horizon series. This was acknowledged to me to be the case for Solo Strings and Chamber Strings. Compared to other libraries on the market is is not "just" a light entry point, but from a VSL view point it surely is an entry point for new users to jump on their products.
