  • New user interface and XP 64-bit

Can anybody in the staff tell me, about VI running on XP 64-bit? The memory has always been a big question regarding Gigastudie with a lot of limitation in Gigastudio and XP, which hopefully schould be solved in the XP 64-bit version.

Can the VI make use of f.ex. 4 Gb ram in XP?
Or mayby 8-16 Gb ram in XP 64-bit?

    Thanks in advance [:)]

  • to make full use of the blessings of 64-bit computing everything in the chain has to be 64-bit - operating system, application, drivers.

the Vienna Instrument is currently developed as 32-bit applikation and therefore runs in 32-bit compatibility mode and will be also restricted using ressources. how much we can get using e.g the /3GB option has to be tested.

as far as i know there is no 64-bit audio driver out, but maybe i've missed it.

At least M-Audio, RME and EMU (I think) have 64-bit drivers. Sonar 5 is delivered in both 32-bit and 64-bit format if we're talking hosts.

What is the restrictions? Is it maximum 2 Gb for each VI there is open and 4 Gb in the whole in XP?

As I read it, when I surfe for the XP 64-bit, it seems it can run programs in both 32 and 64-bit. There is a limitation of 4 Gb per application, and maximum RAM is limited by the motherboard, which could be 8 or mayby 12 Gb at the moment.

When you have to open a new VI for each instrument, I could hope the limitation regarding a single application doesn't count, and I therefore could use whatever tons of RAM i but in my machine (in XP 64-bit [:)] )

Has the VI been tested in XP 64-bit?

    Best regards
    Martin

  • No, Vienna Instruments have not been tested with XP 64 bit (yet).

Of course we will inform you about our results once the tests have taken place.
