Hello,

I use a G5 2.0 Ghz, 4,5 Gb Ram, 2 x 500 Gb SATA internal HD's.
I use Ploque Bidule as host software.

The first time I loaded Vienna samples I loaded 4 presets (level 2) of the Chamber Violins, Violas, Celli and Cbasses. This was about 2,3 Gb. After loading the basses and playing them, the sound was distorted, full of clicks and pops. So I realised that I was probably overdoing things. So I started again.
I loaded 5 instances, 4 of them are Universal matrixes of the Chamber Violins, Violas, Celli and Cbasses. The 5th instance is flute 1, also a Universal matrix.
After loading the flute and playing it, I hear small clicks and pops in the samples. I can imagine what will happen after I load more.
What is wrong?

Greetings,

Gerard Beljon

Update:

I loaded a oboe and a clarinet also Universal mode (level 2).
The clarinet gives pops and clicks when playing it.

I just noticed that there are no clicks and pops when recording and playing this clarinet sequence back in Logic (7.1.1) on my other G5 (this is a Quad).

Hi Gerard, We have similar setups. I could load maybe 5 or 6 Vienna Instruments on the MAc DUal 2.0. I could load more EXS in Logic than this of course but I decided the Dual 2.0 is not up to todays technology so I traded it in for a Quad. Nevertheless it should not click and pop. Maybe your drives are full/fragmented. Did you check the Activity Monitor? It would be interesting to hear from a Dual 2.0 user who is using a Raid array with it.

btw the level 2 presets use a tremendous amoount of CPU/RAM to just hold them inplace. WHy not try a few simpler patches and see what it does. As always these computers work better the more you run the samples through them and restart again.

Hi Bruce,

How many instances can you load in the Quad? (I don't know how much Ram you have of course).
Could part of the trouble be the host software? Maybe it is not so efficient with ram.
The activity monitor shows some headroom for the processors, discs are new and only used for this library. I hope they are not too slow!
I will also use my Quad (as plug in with Logic) for the VI instruments. But the memory for it ( it has 3 Gb) is still so expensive that I hoped to be able to wait and use the G5.. But that seems not to be possible!

Greetings,

Gerard

Gerard, It's not just instances but how many patches are in the instance. On the Quad I can run ALMOST a full orchestra but not quite and 2 Altiverb 5's. This is of course with about 24 EXS + 8 VI's. No problem and 5 GIG ram. So I am running 6 VI's on a MAC Dual 2.5 just strings and some 3rd party percussion using DP 4.61. The 2nd Mac; the Quad runs Logic and everything but the Strings. Â real world performance tests placing the Quad at a 10 on a scale from 1-10, the Dual 2.5 a 6 and the Dual 2.0 a 3.5 rating.

Why not install Logic on the Dual 2 and see how it performs?

try to increase your sound card buffers.
With the Vienna instrument, I had to raise my buffers from 128 to 256 to avoid clicks.
