  • Stupid question about duration of samples.

Is it a general rule in First Edition, Pro Edition, and VIs, to get the same duration of samples over the scale in a layer or does it decrease some times for winds ?

Of course I noticed that for winds the duration decrease between p/f layers, due to the breath.

But unfortunately, the duration of each layer doesn’t appear in manuals. Is it because it’s some times not always the same over the scale ?

Can we have the certitude that a layer has the same duration on each keys for all patches of all instruments ?

A clear answer could save the time to check every thing. (It’s long to time all paches...)

  • Well, it’s yes or no.

I hope the answer is yes...

  • Is my question so strange ?

There’s a lot of information in paper manuals, except... the length of layers (apart in few patch titles), which forces us to time them.

That’s why I ask. (Considering that I use my library since only few weeks.) (Although I own it since the beginning.)

    (Don’t ask. Too long...)

    Paul ? cm ?

    Any veteran user ?

  • Hi Crystal,
A simple way to research this may be to check the size of the sample wav-files. Since I assume they are uncompressed the file size should be proportional to the length of the samples.

    Regards,
    Nils

  • Hi Nils.

    Good suggestion.

Unfortunately, the length of wave files are not the length of samples.

I’ve just check this, for example (with the ‘statistic’ windows in the editor) :
    VI-14_Osus_mV_f_E4 : 24.130 sec., for 16 effective sec.
    VI-14_Osus_mV_mf_B6 : 15.974 sec for... 18 effective sec. !

    Weird.

    No ?
