  • EXSP24 Version ?

    Hi,

I was just wondering about people who use the EXSP24 VST version of Emagic's Sampler. How compatible is the Symphony with this and does it limit the potential of using the product.

    Thanks,

    Larry

PS - so glad the second week has finally arrived ! ! !

  • Hi Larry!

The Vienna Symphonic Library needs key-switching and groups (or dimensions, as it´s called in GigaStudio), especially for the Performance Set and the Performance Tool. We are mapping a version exclusively for EXS24mkII, ´we haven´t even tested the EXSP24... taken a look at the emagic-page, it says the EXSP24 is a sampleplayer, not to be edited, so hard to tell for me right now, whether there´s groups and whether it´s compatible, I´m afraid it´s not.

And YES, the second week has finally arrived, the Vienna Symphonic Library for GigaSTudio is being shipped this week, the version for EXS24mkII is scheduled to follow soon!

    All the best, Paul

  • Hello,

It doesn't look like Emagic is going to port over all the features of EXS24 mk II to EXSP. As I understand it, EXSP doesn't even support the Virtual Sample Memory feature of EXS24 - therefore it doesn't stream off disk. Emagic's website is unclear about current stats on both versions, but it does say that EXSP supports "many of the features that made EXS24 so successful."

It's unfortunate since it's not like you would want to reprogram the VSL set, just that you'd want to host it within something like V-Stack on a separate computer, or within Cubase/Nuendo or maybe DP. Emagic is exploring the possibility of turning EXS24 mkII into a standalone Audio Units application. Hopefully that will take care of the issue of having to buy both EXS24 and Logic to set up a Mac to play the VSL.

The other side of things is Kontakt which is the most compatible software sampler both on the app side and on the sample reading side. It works in any host app including Pro Tools, and has a standalone mode. It reads EXS and Giga files, as well as every major hardware and software sampler format. Unfortunately the disk streaming feature release date has been pushed back to mid december, and the sample switching features probably won't be out until sometime in the first quarter of next year. It will not be a viable alternative until these two updates surface, but they're definitely in the planning stages.

  • Thanks Guy's for your reply's.

I have now a much better understanding of the program situation.

It seems more reasonable to get one Sampler ( GigaStudio ) ranther than a Sampler and a whole new recording system set-up ( ESX24 mk II - Logic ) just to play the Orchestra samples.

I've never used the GigaStudio before but it looks like I'll be picking one up today. Especially if I want to start using the VSL right away.

I don't think I could wait month's to see if anybody else will upgrade their systems to handle this project.

I just got my computer set up to handle just about anything now.
with - 300 Gig HardDrive and 2 Gig Ram Memory.

All I need now is the CUBE. :^ )

    IT'S LIKE HAVING CHRISTMAS BEFORE CHRISTMAS ! ! !

Thanks again for all your help.
