I have the problem that even though I have successfully relinked instruments with exs Manager, Logic is expecting the samples to have other -odd- names.
Logic is looking for an Audio File
XW1.089.Dopplers_Slow_Wi#1dd08
In the Finder and in exs Manager, the sample is shown as:
XW1.089.Dopplers_Slow_WipesLong_05.aif
Has anyone else had this problem & can suggest a fix, please?
Thanks!

although this cannot be a sample from VSL it looks like an OS9/OSX incompatibility - the filename has been cropped to fit into the 32-character limit (this can also happen across apple-talk shares on a windows-server) if it's only a single file you could manually remap it in the EXS editor, if there are more following this pattern i'd assume the exs-file has been formerly resolved on an OS9 machine and you need to replace the exs-files with the original ones and then resolve again under OSX christian

Thanks Christian!- I suspect the problem occured because the samples are on our server. However, it's weird that the Finder and exs Manager shows the correct name , but Logic still looks for the cryptic name.
I'm just now using RenamerForMac - a great utility!-to shorten the names and then I'll just have to construct the exs Instruments again, by hand.
Cheers

this does only mean to me that logic is not yet 100% *carbonized* - a similar problem occured also in earlier quicktime versions, office 98, ect (of course the finder _is_ totally carbonized)
the filename limit in OSX is 256 byte, the limit for the total path is 1024, but a character can use 1-3 byte, because of usage of unicode for file- and path-names.
since there are different limits showing up regarding the filepath-length you could alternatively try to shorten the path to the samples and/or instruments (known examples for max path-length are 42 and 65) christian

I'm a bit late in reading and replying to this email. Without going into technical details, what you see is correct, and you do not need to change anything. It's simply Logic that will use a "mangled" filename when the name is longer than 31 characters. ExsManager knows how to handle this automatically.

thanks for the reply!
Do I understand this correctly: that even if Logic continues to present an error message when loading an instrument ( such as "XW1.089.Dopplers_Slow_Wi#1dd08 not found") , the instrument will nonetheless load its samples and be playable, provided the Relink with Exs Manager was successful?
Is that what you mean by "ExsManager knows how to handle this automatically"?
Thanks again

I meant that ExsManager can recognize the mangled form of the name (the one with the shortened name and dash plus numbers added) in the instrument, search the sample with the full name (but you can see how there can be ambiguities here), and then rewrite the sample name in the mangled form inside the instrument.
Needless to say that the suggestion here is to use shorter names, because there are some limitations in what you can relink.
However, if you have a case where after a relink the instrument doesn't load, please send me the instrument and the sample so we can check here what's happening exactly.
