  • In-home lesson for newbie user?

    VSL community,

I live in the North End in Boston, MA, and I was wondering if there are any expert VSL users in the Boston area who would be willing to help a busy law student set up VSL (Opus 1 and Opus 2 of the Horizon Series) for use with Pro Tools for a reasonable fee. I am currenty running OS X (10.3.9) on a G4 Desktop in conjunction with Pro Tools LE 6.4. My sampler of choice is Kontakt2. I just haven't been able to figure it all out. The set-up of the "performance tool" strikes me as especially daunting.

Law school is pretty boring and I'm dying to get back to writing and arranging orchestral music with a sample library that I hear is phenomenal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Chris

chris, in case you are using kontakt 2 you don't need to use the stand-alone performance tool - the programs for kontakt 2 are scripted.
you might also wamnt to look at the various guides

  • Thanks for getting back to me cm.

I bought Opus 1 and 2 in October of 2005 and the discs I have are GIGA and EXS24 compatible. Will the samples in this format have the Kontakt2 scripts? I'm wondering if I bought VSL too soon, before they sold a version designed for Pro Tools/Kontakt users.

I'm not averse to reading manuals, it's just that they don't seem to speak very directly to Pro Tools/Kontakt users, but maybe there's more guidance out there now (I think I remember one of the guides saying I should use the EXS24 samples).

please visit the user area - downloads - kontakt 2 programs , and yes, kontakt is using the samples from the EXS samples folder.
reason why the kontakt programs are not on the DVDs is, that this format has been added to the supported platforms later, initially only giga and exs have been released.
since you're on a mac i'd recommend to use www.unrarx.com to extract the archives from the DVDs - stuffit ist sometimes troublesome.

ps: as far as i can see you have actually registered for the kontakt format
