    I know that everything is possible, but do you recommend to use e.g. the "Konzerthaus Vienna Large" for the positioning tracks, but another room (e.g. "Amsterdam Concertgebouw") to add the tail?

    Seems like I still have to learn a lot about AV, but donĀ“t I get unreal results, if I mix the reverb of a different room to the position of another?

    best place to go for info on this is the tutorial on orchestral positioning with downloadable templates on the altiverb site.

    In the Altiverb orch positioning video that's what they do - they use the big hall for its wide stage positioning and then the tail from Mechanics Hall (actually I forget which hall but another one).

    So they do mix and match - I was a bit suprised, but like you suggest - if it sounds good.......

    Looks like itĀ“s o.k. to use different gears, even though I donĀ“t understand why. But I donĀ“t know exactly, what the positioning is doing.

    Just as an orchestra is seated across a varied spectrum of width and depth on a stage, so can the user simulate that seating with corresponding widths and depths which in turn impact of the believability of the early reflections. This goes a little beyond mere panning and impacts how these various positions (ie: various early reflections) behave within the reverb tail once its added. The results can be quite effective.

    Altiverb can be a real pain in the ass for choosing the right IR for your mix. I'm doing a topic on it for my site soon. I'm favouring the Teldex Studio IR's .. but without the right mixing solution none of the IR's will work quite as you think.

    I'll post a link when I have this topic on my site. . I will have some templates for download so people can try what I've done.

    Programming reverbs can be as involved as entering all other data. It's certainly not something to be underestimated in terms of time.

    On the positive side is that once the initial settings are made they become a benchmark for other projects using the same template. Of course, it is quite nice to build a "library" of pre-delays and reflections for a variety of purposes. It's also nice to have a diversity of reverbs to choose from, depending upon the desired reults.

    Altiverb is but one way, and thank goodness it's there along with lots of other options.

    I'll look forward to your Teldex reports.

    I'm messing around with an idea at the moment - using the Waves S360 Imager to pan and create the Early Reflections and then use AV to generate the tails as a send over the main mix bus.

    S360 seems a lot less CPU hungry than AV (I use it across channels and groups).

    I'm still testing it - my plan is now to load up a huge old project and see exactly how many instances I can get going at once...
