First off - I sequence on one computer, and just run Gigastudio and Performance tool on another(s).

Now, I own the original Orchestral Cube First Edition and Pro Edition, which I've been using in Gigastudio for some time. I only just opened the editor and .art files for the first time today and I have a question: Some of my legato performance instruments are either p or f. Is it possible to program a velocity switched p/f legato performance patch?

Second, I've been using Giga plus the original Performance Tool with no problems. I recently bought the new Vienna Instruments strings with the standalone player, and I'm wondering if there's a way to interface with Gigastudio - I can't use my reverb plugins with the Vienna Instruments Player, and I usually use 32 channels on my Gigastudio for instruments anyway.

Download the updated art files from the user area. Make sure that you do the updates with AutoArt or it will take days!!

VI and GS are two separate things. I found that I was unable to run them on the same computer, but in your case this might be different. Perhaps loading VI into a VST host such as V_Stack might may things work. I also think that there is a demo of Forte you could try, which would save you spending money unnecessarily.

Actually, the only .art files I have ARE the ones I just downloaded from the user area. I'm asking about programming a new instrument that doesn't exist - a velocity-switched legato performance patch of, say, Solo Horn. Right now, there's a p, and there's an f, but no velocity-switched p/f legato performance. I wanted to see if it's possible to program this, or if the unique nature of performance patches prohibits it for some reason.

Hi Mike,

I have the Pro Ed and there's definitely a velocity switched perf-leg for the solo horn. It's in the combinations section and is called HO_perf-leg_p+mf+f_vel.

Take another look...

Hi Mike,

I have no problems using Giga and VI at the same time (provided there's enough RAM to load all the samples). However, you shouldn't use the Standalone VI but the VST plugin directly in your sequencer, to which of course you can apply all manner of effect plugins.

Kind regards,
David

mike - it is possible to layer the performance patches. if you need specific instructions, there was a thread or two on it back about the time giga 3 came out. as others have mentioned though, most of these have already been done so you don't have to reinvent the wheel.

I only have HO_perf-leg_p, perf-leg_m, and perf-leg_f. I do not have that combination. I'm using the First Edition, and Pro Edition, and I re-installed from the original discs to be sure.

Mike,

did you load the .art files with Giga Editor and save the resulting GS3 .gig files?

Cheers,
David

Ahh.. now I get it. I knew it was a newbie-type question. I'm running Auto Art now.

Thanks!

OK, now I'm starting to feel retarded...

Auto Art successfully converted all the Horn files except the performance legato! It says "Exact matches could not be found for 38 of the samples that were present when this .art file was exported." Perhaps this is the .gig with more than one .art issue...

Update: All my perf-legato instruments are missing samples (different amounts, though), but it's only the perf-legatos are having problems. Everything else is updating fine.

Strange ... not having run auto-art myself, I can't confirm. Is it the same if you try it by hand - load the .gig into Giga Editor, load the .art file, save the .gig?

Regards,
David

Yep, tried it by hand, too. Really odd. It's across the board for brass, anyway, with missing samples, but only in perf-legato. Everything else is 100%.

I used Auto-Art to update all my libs (PE & some Horizon) and never came across this problem...

Are you sure you're using the Pro Ed ART files (as opposed to the First Ed ART files) to update the Pro Ed? I know it sounds obvious but you never know...

mike, the GS3 art-files are referring to the respective edition - possibly you can find the reason for the issue here.
