  • stupid question: what happens to a broken dongle?

this might have been asked before but just came to my attention upon installing the appassionata string licenses minutes ago ....
the dongle i use has now plenty of licenses on it for all sorts of VI's and other products from steinberg etc... together they're well worth what other people might buy a fair car from ... what happens if this thing breaks or fails? i have broken an empty one accidentally once while hitting it with the foot (pc under the table) as it was attatched to an usb slot ... do you have to send it someone who'll check and replace? or do you have to buy everything new?

  • sangit, i can only speak for VSL, but this is the reason why we ask you to register every key you are using for vienna instruments (ok, we actually need to know at least your first key). only then we are able to replace licenses on damaged keys.
keys which are reported as damaged or stolen and licenses on such keys will be deactivated.

ps: when i mention *reported as stolen* i mean a serious proof of such an occurance.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • fine [:)] let's hope that never happens
i don#t think the other companies would act that uncomplicated

  • This is quite inetersting, I was wondering how much to insure my Vianna Key for. If it is damged, lost or stolen (and the DVDs) what is the replacement cost? It would be pointless to insure them for the full original or current purchase price.

  • pete, of course we can only re-establish your state of licenses. for replacing media please contact sales@vsl.co.at - there is no list price [;)]
since we're assuming everyone would keep an eye on a vienna key holding licenses we also didn't work out a fee for replacing licenses so far - this might be subject to change.

  • That's what I expected.

But is there a fee for reestablishing the licenses?

Apart from that I would assume the only insurance cover I need is for the cost of a new Viennakey and the DVDs.

    Is that correct?

  • Hi I'm having a real crisis at the moment. Bought the Special Edition 4 days ago, toko a while but eventually got everything running smoothly. This morning I logged my computer on, put the vienna key in, and it's not getting detected! So i can't use any of my Vienna instruments in sibelius. I have put it in different ports as well as in other computers and it's just not registering. It's not my computers ports as they detect my other USB devices. Basically it's broken (And I don't know how because I hadn't banged it or anything, it's just literally stopped working) How do I get a replacement??
