  • what library to buy?

    Hi
I want to buy a new orchestra library, so far I worked with the siedlacek Library...
The VSL Website is very confusing to me and I hope somebody can help me choose the right product.
    What I want:
Everything I need for basic orchestra production, Strings, Woodwinds, etc. in Ensembles and solo, I dont need exotic playingstyles nor rare instruments tough...
I ve seen an offer for Opus 1 and Opus 2 in a Bundle, cannot see if its first edition or PRO, the dealers seem to be confused about that as well.
My budjet is very limited, I hoped to find a solution for around 1500 Euros...
Then, I work on a G5 but also run a Intel-Laptop latetly, do all VSL Libraries run on Intel as well?

    thanks so much... Silvercity

neither nor - this are products from the HORIZON SERIES, and not a bad choice btw ...

these are *classical* sample libraries, means you need some sampler to load them - EXS in Logic Pro or Kontakt if you're on a mac. the libraries itself are platform independent (PC, PPC-mac, intel-mac) and the performance tool runs on all of them too.
you might want to have a look here regarding formats & performance tool.

may i ask you about the identity of the *confused* dealer as well*?

  • Hi there

    Thanks for the answer.
Actually I know how to integrate the VSL Library into Logic, EXS, ... know all about the performance tool etc...
My question was more regarding the content of the Opus1 & 2 pack.
Is it enough for basic production, it says for example that there is basic solo strings with it etc... I am just affraid that I buy the package and see that I need to buy the cube to work seriously with it or that the samples are in less quality of the ones in cube for example..
About the confusion: On the VSL Website it says under Opus 1:
"ALL of the instruments and articulations listed below are included in the OPUS 1 PRO EDITION.
Articulations labeled FIRST are included in the FIRST EDITION and are also part of the PRO EDITION.
Articulations labeled PRO are included in the PRO EDITION only."

Then there is a list of instruments, none of them labeled "first" or "pro".

The dealer I am talking about offers the bundles with short describtion, where it doesnt say if the libraries are "first" or "pro", nor if its standart or extended version, its a huge mess to me... Understand that I dont name the provider because its a special offer and by experience in forums there offers are sold out when I finally decide to buy...

  • Hi Silvercity,

this content overview you are referring to, is primary an information for all Pro Edition users who want to expand their sample palette with further Horizon products.
So they can check which Horizon products do have exclusive content, which is not included in their Pro Edition.

To get an overview which articulation are included in Opus 1, you can look at the ARTICULATION button on the Opus 1 product page (directly below the PRODUCT INFO button)

Here is also a direct link:
    http://vsl.co.at/shop/instruments.asp?Lang=1&TopNav=2&SubNav=5&Menu=9&Detail=0&Region=1

Same list is also available on the Opus 2 page:
    http://vsl.co.at/shop/instruments.asp?Lang=1&TopNav=2&SubNav=5&Menu=24&Detail=0&Region=1

    best
    Herb

ooops, thanks for pointing us to this - the paragraph should not be displayed for horizon series products - we'll fix it
    thx, christian

  • Since you re from the VSL crew... do you see a chance for projects like mine that VSL sponsores the plugs?

  • Hi Silvercity,
If your budget is €1500 it seems to me that you could get the Opus Bundle (which lists at €895) and still afford one or two other libraries in the areas where you might feel Opus is not enough (eg. solo/chamber strings or woodwind ensemble) - or maybe a Vienna Instrument for smoother workflow.

    Regards,
    Nils

  • Hey Nils

Because you supported me I have to let you know what I finally bought...
I watched the instruments tutorial and read more about it and felt like the instruments are the way to go, also futurewise, plus, I still have the siedlacek for basics and can add more instruments whenever I have more money..
So finally I decided completly different and bought the instruments "appassionata strings" (the more passionate the better) and "elements"...
Cant wait to have it delivered..
    thanks anyways, Beat
