  • How do I combine a legato line with a diminuendo?

After such a long time this might sound like a stupid question, but I still couldn´t find out, how to do that in a nice sounding and easy way.

    Example: I want the BKL_perf-leg_p to end with a diminuendo (e.g. BKL_dim2_2s)

How do you guys do that?

Is there something like an "end ghost note"?

  • You can play the last legato note softly, let off quickly and double it with a dim sample. Or just play the legato sample and lower the volume with controller 11.

Exactly what I do. No phasing issues using this method.

  • If I play the legoto note softly, isn´t the "slurr"-part too soft? As I understand this, the conjunktion of loud notes is louder than one of two soft notes?

How do you do that, if you need the last dim-note to be e.g. 4 seconds, but you only have instruments of 3 or 6 seconds?

How is that be done in generell? (not only concernig perf-leg)

  • Hi Felix,

If you want the last dim note to be 4 seconds, you can take a 6 sec. articulation and add a volume fade to trim the diminuendo to the length you want.

Which "volume" is controlled by controller 11? I know about midi-volume, track-volume and the global volume of an exs-instrument or an gigastudio-instrument, but I can´t figure out, which of these volumes controller 11 is assigned to, since I see no movement in none of these volume knobs, when I draw a change of control 11, even though I hear the change.

  • Controller 11 is "Expression" - a rather elusive term for another volume controller within the normal MIDI volume (which, by the way, is the parameter controlled by the volume slider on a MIDI track).

Apart from being able to make finer adjustments by combining MIDI volume and expression, you can also use it to control the volume within a track while leaving the "normal" volume controller untouched. Thus, you can set an overall volume for the track and take CC11 for fine-tuning.

    Cheers,

    Hi Felix
I did a christmas-song last year. With the final chord I had a similar problem as you. I should have a legoto (portamento) between pfp and a dim sample.
Afterwards I showed this very special solution on my website - for others.
I think "your case" is similar one.
