  • Saving presets

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could walk me through the process of saving my own presets. For example, if a piece I was working on only used legato strings and therefore I didn't need to load all the pizzicato samples every time I opened the project. How would I go about saving my preset with only the samples I wanted? When I click on the save button it does not allow me to save anything in the custom data folder installed by vienna.

    Thanks

  • Hmmm .. Sounds odd. I would say that perhaps you're trying to save to a protected area .. but I'm sure your problem is more complicated than that.

What osrt of computer are you using. With Macs the VI doesn't repsond well to being installed on none admin accounts .. it can cause problem recognising the Instruments and presets .. though if I read your problem right .. again this is not quite the same issue.

If you're on a PC I'd say it's a stupid windows thing, something I'm going through with GS3 right now [:P]

Things to try: ... Try using the save feature to another portion of your Hard Drive .. the Desktop, or a seperate HD just to be sure the problem is consistent. I would even try saving a preset to a flash drive or other USB mounted HD media.

I'm pretty sure that the VSL team will figure it out before long and let you know what do to. [:D]

  • I'm using a Mac G5, running VI in Logic Pro.

The way I have been going about it is to load the original preset which contains all the samples, deleting those which aren't needed and then clicking save. One thing I noticed was that it would not let me save within the custom data folder, but if I went back one level I could save the preset. This did create a new .fxp file, so maybe I have got the saving part right. However, I could not then work out how to access this file from within Vienna - do I need to somehow refresh Vienna before the newly created file will appear?

  • Hello Hum,

    sorry for the late reply....

Please make sure that the permissions you find in the "Vienna Instruments Custom Data" Folder you find in your user folder. It must be "Read and Write" enabled, then you will be able to save matrices and presets without any problems [:)]

  • Thanks Paul,

The "Vienna Instruments Custom Data" folder was not set to "Read and Write" enabled. I changed the owner setting from system to myself and then changed the permissions. Haven't had a chance to actually test out saving a preset but I'm sure it should work fine now.

    Thanks again,
