1.Vienna Suite for Synchron Libraries 10/1/2020 5:13:40 PM

Do I need Vienna Suite or Vienna Suite Pro to get better results with the Synchron Libraries?

2.Basic questions about Synchron series 4/27/2017 7:12:50 PM

I have a piece for flute, piano and percussion. I used for it flute 1, Vienna Imperial, Vienna Percussion and Mir. It sounds okay, but I'm not really satisfied with the percussion. How can I combine the new Synchron Percussion with the pinao and the flute. Or have I to wait for Synchron Imperial and Synchron Flute?

3.New Solo Violin 2 and Solo Cello 2 has changed dynamic articulation? 1/15/2017 4:51:02 PM

+ 1

4.Another problem with the Vienna key 12/10/2016 11:07:28 PM

Since I know that I have to pay 50% if I lose my key, I stopped working outside of my home with VSL. I'm using Logic and Finale for my projects. But if I try to open a Logic or Finale project without the key often I get a crash.

Usually I'm working every week about 20 hours outside of my home on my compositions. Because of the Key problems I'm losing now this time for my music.

5.lost eLicenser USB key = big problem!!!!!! Read before buying 11/25/2016 1:16:41 PM

I read somewhere that Steinberg and VSL are working on a close integration from Vienna Instruments in Dorico. I hope that this is true. Perhaps this would be also a chance for a better solution for the dongle problem.

In the past a worked often in the train with Vienna Instruments, but in the meantime, I no longer dare to do that.

6.Compare the sound of Violin1 and Violin2 11/8/2016 12:21:03 AM

No, for me the intruments are not sounding very similar. I like the new instruments very much. In my view they sound more realistic than Violin 1 and Cello 1. I bought both intruments, but without ponticello, harmonics, marcato they are probably useless for me. If I have more time I will try to use articulations from Violin 1 for Violin 2 and from Cello 1 for Cello 2. Also there are certainly workarounds for some articulations. But I expect that this will not work with all articulations I need.

I don't understand that VSL don't release Extended Libraries for this great instruments!!!

7.Broken Vienna KEY and upgrade to VEP 6 11/6/2016 10:03:11 AM

Paul, thank you for the information. But I think this fee is out of proportion.

The demos are sounding great! But please think about Extended Librarys! This would give the users numerous additional possibilities for their compositions. In the 21st century should be harmonics, ponticello, sul tasto, sordino etc. a matter of course in string libraries.

9.Broken Vienna KEY and upgrade to VEP 6 11/5/2016 4:54:44 PM

What is the life expectancy of the keys? My key is about 10 years old. Should I replace it with a new key?

I have 40 licences on my key. If the key breaks, I have to pay € 830?!

10.new violin, new cello 11/1/2016 12:07:23 PM

Are there any plans for an Extended Library for the new instruments?

I would buy the new instruments immediately if I know that Extended Librarys still appear. But so I miss many important playing techniques: the articualtions are not complete enough for my solo compositions.

11.new violin, new cello 11/1/2016 11:58:25 AM

Sorry, I found it!

12.new violin, new cello 11/1/2016 11:56:30 AM

I would like to know more about the new instruments. I cannot find anything about the articulations!

13.Additional articulations for existing instruments? 8/11/2016 9:47:52 PM

Hallo Paul,

Yes, that helps! Thank you very much!

Best, Andreas

14.Additional articulations for existing instruments? 8/11/2016 9:35:47 PM

Hello Paul,

thank you for the quick answer and the link to the undocumented feature!

I know that I’m covered with VSL-Products for my orchestral compositions (generally I miss only Bass recorder, Accordion and Sopranino saxophone). For many missing articulations I have workarounds.

After the summer vacation I have only one or two hours per week to work on the simulations of my compositions. Therefore I need a very logical structure of the matrices and presets. Otherwise I lose the overview. But I would organize my matrices and presets in another way, if I would know that there are plans for expanding the instruments, so I am able to maintain the logical structure also in the future.

Best, Andreas

15.Additional articulations for existing instruments? 8/11/2016 8:02:12 PM

I want to make next years simulations of my large orchestral works. Therefore I started to reorganize my all matrices and presets. This is much work and I'll be busy some weeks. An important question is now for me: Should I leave room for missing articulations? Are there any plans to expand existing instruments?

16.Where is the Vienna MIR Pro manual in German? 7/30/2016 9:36:35 PM

Thank you for your answer. I'm able to understand English, but because German is much more easy for me, I asked for a German translation.

17.Where is the Vienna MIR Pro manual in German? 7/30/2016 6:09:22 PM

Where is the Vienna MIR Pro manual in German? I cannot find it. Is there no translation to German?

Thank you for the suggestion, but the effort for this is too large for the purpose.

Well, why don't you let us be the judge of that, if I may be so bold. I'd love to hear your recorder quartet realized with VSL. By all means, go ahead and post it :>)

Out of context the phrase sounds different than intended:

I mean: With the Great Bass my Quartet doesn’t sound good, because it’s the wrong instrument.

21.Where is the Bass Recorder? 7/23/2016 5:13:49 PM

Many thanks for your response. What a pity! Unfortunately because of that I can not simulate my quartet with Vienna Instruments. I have tried the Great Bass, but it doesn't sound good.

22.Where is the Bass Recorder? 7/23/2016 4:04:39 PM

A question for the VSL employees: Are there any plans to release a bass recorder?

23.Where is the Bass Recorder? 7/22/2016 2:57:04 PM

In German the names for recorders were until the 20th century not consistent (cf. Curt Sachs: Reallexikon der Musikinstrumente, Berlin 1913). At latest from the 70s there is a standard for the recorder names (cf. e.g.: Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart; dtv-Musikatlas; Sevsay: Handbuch der Instrumentationspraxis: Great Bass is in C3, the Bass is in F3. But there is an exception for Renaissance (and rarely for Baroque) music: Sometimes the “Great Bass” is called „Bass“. This is the cause of many misunderstandings about recorder names. I am not as familiar with the English instrument names, but I guess it’s like in German: cf. A. Stiller: Handbook of Instrumentation, University of California Press, 1985; or:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recorder_(musical_instrument).

It’s true that the range oft he Great Bass overlaps with the Tenor. But for me is the Great Bass no alternative to the Bass because the difference in sound. Also I never would replace the Cello in a String Quartet with the contrabass.

Maybe interesting: Moeck is the biggest publisher for recorder music: http://www.moeck.com/en/publishing/sheet-music.html

In the catalogue are only a few compositions with Great Bass (abbreviated gB), but much more for Bass (abbreviated B).

Andrew Stiller wrote in his Handbook of Instrumentation about the Bass, that the Bass is usually available. About the Great Bass he wrote “very rare“.

I don’t understand the decision of VSL to take the Great Bass and not the Bass.

24.Where is the Bass Recorder? 7/22/2016 9:54:58 AM

Vienna Instruments have:

SOPRANO RECORDER, ALTO RECORDER, TENOR RECORDER, GREAT BASS RECORDER

But in the Presets and Patches the “Great Bass” is called “Bass”. Also in Williams composition it’s the Great Bass. The Great Bass is in C3, the Bass is in F3.

The Bass is in recorder quartets and recorder ensembles ubiquitous. I guess that 90% of the recorder quartets use SATB. The Great Bass is also a common instrument, but not so often used in ensembles like the Bass.

25.Where is the Bass Recorder? 7/22/2016 12:54:34 AM

Some weeks ago I bought the recorders because I want to make a simulation of my recorderquartett which was never played by human musicans.

I have to admit that I didn’t look what instruments and articulations the Vienna recorders include (I have many Vienna Instruments and never I was dissatisfied with the content of the collections). But after after receiving the collection I was very astonished that the Vienna Recorders don’t include the bass recorder. The bass recorder is a standard  instrument for recorder quartets and recorder ensembles. It’s not possible to replace it with the Great Bass recorder. Unfortunately I’m not able to make the simulation of my quartet without the Bass Recorder.

It’s a severe shortage that the bass recorder is missing. I hope that soon a supplement will appear with a bass recorder.

But in general I’m very satisfied with the Vienna Instruments. BTW: There are still 2 other instruments which I miss: Sopranino-Saxophone and Accordion.
