Any updates or timeframe?   

I am getting hard crashes with VEP6 AU plugin with LPX (all latest version os OSX and VEP).  The crash always happens when I open the plugin window.  This is not consistant but when the crash does happen it always reports VEP as the culprit.  

I also noticed that running Play5 VST on this mac inside the VEP server causes a crash.  That is possibly a play issue but regardless one must avoid Play5 VST on the OSX side in VEP.

MP5,1 12 core 64gigs of ram.

I've got a MP 12 Core 3.46 with 64gigs ram and C8.5.  I have my buffer set to 256 and use a setting of 2 buffers on the VEP instances.  The pauses in audio are about hald a second which is somewhat tolorable.  

I found that by running at 384 buffer cause ZERO dropouts with VEP...very interesting.  However, the overall average CPU went up which was also weird.  Changing the buffer in VEP to anything other than 2 would return the gap in audio.  

I have also noticed that hosting Vienna Instruments inside Cubase is causing a massive increase in average load.  I disabled the tracks and the meter droped quite a bit.  I am not running any reverbs inside VI so not sure why it's doing this.  Guess I'll only use them if I really need that instrument.  

With all this mess I'm really tempted to jump back to LPX that I've used for years.

Will I did find a couple things that helped my situation.  I did notice that Vienna Instruments AG2 settings were inactive so I re-enabled them and the load is much better.  I also have gotten used to the brief pause.

I also had migrated from a quad core i7 Mini to the 12 core MP.  I only recently realized I had not increased the CORE count in Kontakt or on the local VEP.  On top of that the PC Slave I went from 4 to 8 cores and missed increasing that as well.  Average ASIO load is much better.

I bought the SE and SE EXT back before they were called volumes.  I'd like to start expanding them...namely in the woodwinds.  I see they are now called Vol1 and Vol2 in my user account so I'm assuming that the sample content is the same? 

I planned on adding the additional Woodwinds content to start.

EDIT:  Nevermind...looks good on my end so ordered the PLUS parts I wanted.

I'll add my voice.  I really had hoped it would work but C8 hangs even one small projects when changing tracks.  I've never had that issue with LP and Martin's message earlier explains why.  I was really hoping to make a go of it and am still trying.  

I tested a 16 instance bounce last night with C8 and VEP.  There was about a 10 sec delay.  I also had two days of Cubase hangs but both times that was when using the VST2 version of VEP instead of VST3.  Switching to VST3 seemed to make it better.

I then loaded my alternate template which puts stings in one instance and brass in a 2nd.  That worked better as the delay was +/- 5s.  There was no audio delay when changing midi tracks within the same instance.

As everything else I do would run inside Cubase this is perfectly acceptable.  Hopefully they VSL and Steinberg can continue to improve on this.  I remember DP having a number of issues early on too.

Very odd.  I'm just migrating from LPX to C8 after using LPX for many many years.  I've always had a version of Cubase around (from Score 1.0) but haven't bothered with it in a while.  The new Asio Guard was the deal closer.

Tonight when I get into the studio I'll load my HS and HB slave template that uses individual instances per section, do a quick eight bar improv and bounce.  I'll let you know if I encounter the same problem.  I am running a Mini i7 Quad (last gen you could get in that configuration).  It was faster than my old Mac Pro lol!

Connection times from Mac to PC does take a long amount of time.  However, Mac to Mac is quick.   This is why my next slave may be a MINI instead of another PC.

Yes I did that.  I've been using VSL for years and after changing my DAW mac and laptop I had to transfer everything.  The DAW main machine went without a hitch but the laptop refuses to see the patches.  I am going to put the samples on the internal drive just to see if it is some odd permissions issue.

I have moved VSL Special Edition to the laptop becuase I needed it for live use and although the folder for the samples is scanned in directory manager I cannot get any patches showing up.  Any ideas? 

I am on a new 13" Macbook Pro with the samples on an external drive.  Mac OS and VSL is all the most current versions.

LOL  There is that...

I guess that means no Logic X soon and yet another .x update.  I have tried Clbuase and it is pretty nice not having to use workarounds and working Multi-channel CC7 control.  :)

One instance is fine as long as you don't have to freeze anything becuase with one instance you get all or nothing.  Many of us run multiple instances with no issues.

I've come up with a way to better import and organize the layer and now I could really use the fixed one...new project coming up that needs a new master template.

I didn't realize you ran an instance on the MAC side too.  Yes I agree with you there that when running it along side Logic one instance is best.  For now maybe I should just revert to the original method with even inputs till it gets fixed...which I hope is released in a couple of days becuase I need to build a new template!

When you did the test did you reduce the # of audio streams per instance?  Also, I have not found an elegant way to import any of the new setup data into another project...it becomes a mess but I have tried some work arounds.  Don't get me wrong though I did like the design of the new method and would love to be able to try it again but the hanging notes are a show stopper at the moment.

Well I know but actually I have seen zero difference running multiple instances vs one as fas as Logic's concerned.  The PC also doesn't seem to care nor does the mac mini.  As for connection times that's a good point but why does the PC slave seem to take so long yet the MacMini slave connects faster than I can blink?  (Another reason I am not a PC fan).   Also of course if you are using MirPro you go the one instance route but I am not using any VSL in this setup, just PLAY on the PC and Brass for now in Kontakt on the Mini.  Any VSL is done inside Logic and is just a channel strip preset away. .

To be quite honest although I think the VSL team is doing a great job with coming up with a work around I still have found that using one instance per instrument (articulations are on different channels) has been the best solution for me.  There are some specific features I use in Logic that the other methods can't utilize.  If I always had the same template open then I would have a different opinion.

Weird as I've not experience this with hosting Kontakt5 player and 4 on the mac mini slave.  Have you tried it with different machines?

This sounds like you are using the even input plugin in which case you need to have the i/o plugin also on every channel including the VEP plugin set to a pair of outputs and then bypassed. 

Also, FM8 is a 64bit plugin now why not just use it inside Logic (as Paul mentioned)...it isn't like it takes a long time to load a synth.  :)

I just started setting this all up tonight.  I didn't notice any hanging notes yet but I didn't get a compete template together.  It almost makes me wonder if I have to go back to one instance per.  A couple side notes I changed the multi-channel to a single channel instrument on some as I use a channel as an articulation selection.  If you just use the 'all channels' instrument it won't show in the mixer.  I also added a filter to ignore CC7 data so it doesn't change the volume of the plugin channel strip.

Hope the note thing can be solved quickly.

It is becuase of this I finally upgraded my copy of Cubase to 6 so I could test the waters on the last project.  I have to say it did fairly well even on my old Mac Pro and the VST3 plugin has all the ports I could need.  :)   I love Logic but despite the minor update to it the program does feel slightly abandonded or rather will slowly become perceived as entry level (and perception is 9/10ths of reality as they say bla bla bla).

Sorry rambling here I'll still be testing out the new solution when it becomes available.
