1.Resize Mouse Cursor issue 8/19/2019 1:05:22 PM

I can't believe that we are only three having this issue. This happens on any of the 3 machines I have (both locally and remotely) and also alsways happened on my previous machines and VEP6.

I double check all my driver settings, nothing special, prettty standard stuff...

2.Resize Mouse Cursor issue 8/12/2019 12:31:55 PM

I have this issue on the DAW computer as well (the one running Cubase), not only on the remote computers.

3.Resize Mouse Cursor issue 6/27/2019 10:18:14 AM

I keep getting the mouse cursor stuck intto the "resize" form (icon) and I cannot make it revert to the "pointer" icon.

I am using VEP7 on a Windows 10 machine, accessed via Microsoft Remote Desktop from either a Mac or another PC.

 Anybody has any advice?

4.Un-preserved VEP6 instances ISSUE on Mac 7/29/2018 3:31:47 PM

I am currently moving from PC to Mac (High Sierra) as a VEP6 slave and I have noticed that it appears to be an issue when working with non-preserved instances; VEP6 server simply vanishes when closing and then opeing the project in my DAW's Cubase 9.5 pro (which in turn should unload and then load the un-preserved instance(s) on the Mac Slave). Is this a known problem on Mac or is there maybe something wrong with my setup? Btw, this works perfectly with PC Slaves.

5.Two LAN ports in a VEP 5 network 3/20/2016 1:30:29 AM

I have 4 Windows 7 x64 computers: 3 Slaves and 1 Master DAW. The Master's motherboard is an Asrock extreme6 with 2 gigabit LAN ports. Would I benefit from splitting the 3 slaves across these 2 ports (like two slaves connected to LAN1 via router and another slave connected directly to LAN2 via the adequate cable).

Right now I am running all three slaves on a single LAN port, via router. It's working but I am planning on creating a huge template with a lot of sounds and outputs so I would like to know how to set it up. Not sure how this is going to hold up in a busy arrangement.

6.VE pro - linking channels (faders) 1/11/2014 3:24:41 PM

Is there any way to link channels (faders) in VEpro 5? So that I could move (automate) one fader and others would follow through.

7.Gigabit Router or Switch? 1/2/2014 7:26:22 PM

Thank you for your reply. I looked up online the Netgear 105 Switches - there are a bunch available at different price points. The most affordable is the GS105NA. I hope the "NA" doesn't mean anything bad from a VEpro point of view? :)

Also I checked the settings for my Intel gigabit CT adapter and it has a setting called "Jumbo packet" which is currently disabled. Should I enable it? Is it related to the Jumbo Frame you mentioned?

8.Gigabit Router or Switch? 1/1/2014 3:25:26 PM

Hi,

I am building a new Master/Slave environment based on Intel i7 3930/Asus Sabertooth x79 to run Vienna Ensemble Pro/VI pro/Kontakt/Play. Probably 1 Master and 2 Slaves.

I have purchesed Intel gigabit network PCI-e adapters for the computers as it has been recommneded on this forum.

My question now is - what gigabit router or switch is recommended for the best performance at low latency?

Happy New Year!!

9.[SOLVED] Latency related clicks/pops with VEP 5 2/22/2013 12:34:33 PM

My present DAW is based on an ASUS P6T with i7 920 CPU, RME Multiface, 24GB Ram (still waiting for the new computer parts to arrive). I have an Radeon HD 5750/1GB feeding 3 HD monitors (one of them super-definition).

It all worked fine in Cubase 6 but not good at all in Cubase 7.02: the moment I open the Video window, no matter on what monitor, graphics become very sluggish. Any other window (plugin, transport bar, markers, etc), when dragged across any screen, while the video window is open, had big latency in re-drawing itself. It looked VERY sluggish. Closing the video window would get everything back to normal. The re-drawing issues would not be apparent if an window is static - only when moved. Of course, this would not be a show stopper...but...unfortunately the same issue applied to the cursor as well! Now I had a problem. As soon as the Video window is up, the cursor, too, becomes jerky and this bothered me a lot while working in the editors.

Of course I suspected Cubase to be the culprit and thought I had to wait for yet another update. Until I realized that while there were lots of complains on the Cubase forum, nobody mentioned this one.

So - I installed C7 on an old laptop (with NVidia chipset) - worked perfectly.

I installed the lasted ATI drivers, latest Win updates, latest Quicktime on my DAW - no success. I removed all but one monitor screen and lowered its resolution - to no avail.
I took off an older NVIDIA 8500GT card from my Slave PC, installed it on the DAW - Perfect!!
I borrowed a Zotak Geforce GT640 (NVidia based) from a friend - it worked perfectly with 2 monitors. I couldn't test with the third monitor though because of the stupid mini-HDMI port's location (couldn't plug the hdmi adapter). But again, with Radeon HD5750 I couldn't make it work even with a single monitor.

I am not sure why the present configuration works with C6 but not with C7. Probably the latter uses a different video engine that requires certain instructions set that work better (for me) on a nvidia card.

I don't know...I am probably going to order a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650 (4 monitors capable) and see how it goes. It is also possible that once I receive the Sabertooth/i7 3939k and build the new DAW I'll realize that Radeon works fine with C7 too...

Thank you all for your input.

10.[SOLVED] Latency related clicks/pops with VEP 5 2/22/2013 3:07:58 AM

yes, I'll stick with the Sabertooth and add the Intel PCI-E card as advised.

Just curious: what video card do you have on? Ati or Nvidia? I just discovered that Cubase 7 doesn't like Ati (Amd)!!

TomMartin100m wrote:
Sounds like the same setup as me then, I HAD to get the sabertooth as I also have an older PCI RME card I didn't want to upgrade. If the board has the features you want, and it does if you've selected it, then it's worth getting a decent PCIe network card IMO. Like you, I had to have Asus. The only other Asus board with a legacy PCI slot for your sound card I could find is the lowest model P9x79, but that only has 2 sata 6g ports which I don't consider enough.

If I were you I would stick with the sabertooth and buy the network card, the RME works flawlessly with this board.

11.[SOLVED] Latency related clicks/pops with VEP 5 2/21/2013 4:07:45 PM

Thank you, Bernd. What I also found is:

Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Network Adapter

It is $31 (more affordable) but...it doesn't say "PRO". Any good?

We had a lot of support regarding drop outs. And it always turned out that it was the onboard adapter Intel 82579V. After using a PCI or PCIe networkadapter everything worked fine. The intel 1000 Pro should be around 30$ or you just take a cheap Realtek network adapter.

Bernd

12.[SOLVED] Latency related clicks/pops with VEP 5 2/21/2013 3:15:20 PM

Wow - I have just ordered the same motherboard for my next Master (DAW) system (Asus Sabertooth x79). I haven't received it yet and I can still cancel the order. I am a little concerned about the whole Intel onboard LAN. So I might need to purchase an Intel LAN adapter. Problem is that I can only go PCI-Express (the only PCI slot will have my RME audio card in).  The cheapest PCI-Express Intel pro/1000 LAN I found is $110; adding this to an already expensive MotherBoard cost makes the whole package quite pricey.

Should have gone with a different mother board instead, maybe from other manufacturers (although I always loved ASUS)?

Is it confirmed that Sabertooth's onboard Intel 82579V LAN doesn't perform well with VE-pro + slave PC?

13.AUGUST 2012 Updates for all current software 8/8/2012 1:45:21 PM

Hi,

One of the VE Pro 5 changes is: "Reworked network protocol for improved reliability".

Is this protocol different/better from the one in VE PRO 4?

I am still on V4 as I do not need any of the V5's features. I wonder now though if upgrading to VEPro5 will give me any performance and/or stability improvement over V4 (which I am pretty happy with though).

Thank you.

15.EMERGENCY!! Vienna License lost during transfer!! 2/2/2012 5:00:45 PM

It turns out my (older generation) Steinberg USB key got corrupted.

I just wanted to thank Vienna team for an fantastic custommer support!! I got all the licenses replacements very fast and loaded them all onto a working (new generation) USB key. All good now Big Smile

16.Asio spikes with VI Pro-Not performance related 2/1/2012 1:40:55 PM

I have started to move my Vienna libraries from Slaves (via VEpro4) to my main PC so I have started now to use VIpro-2 as plugins directly loaded in Cubase.

I just noticed the very same simptoms Domenico described.

Before they were loaded in VEpro, on slaves and remained loaded for weeks...

I am now going to try the 2-10 minutes wait workaround (just to test it, I don't think it reall is a viable workaround).

My computer specs are identical to Domcenic's (including Cubase 64bit).

17.EMERGENCY!! Vienna License lost during transfer!! 1/31/2012 8:49:24 PM

Thank you Stefan...Yes, I have tried everything you mentioned.

I already got an email from the Vienna Support and sent back the USB keys' serials. I am waiting for an asnwer.

In the meanwhile it would be great if you could send me the 48 hours license for the Vienna Special Edition DVD collection.

18.Lost license during eLc CC transfer 1/30/2012 10:26:58 PM

I had to transfer a few Vienna licenses from one USB key to another
via eLC Control Center. The first three worked flawlessly but the fourth
one got lost (error!!). I tried to "Recover" via eLC CC and it gave
error -> had to reboot. Tried again to no avail. If I try the USB
keys individually (removing all but one) then Recover -> message that
there was nothing to recover. Tried the other key - the same. Put them both back in: error again!!

Conclusion: I have lost a license (SecondEdition). It is ot neither keys anymore. Please help - what would be the next step?

I downloaded the latest drivers, eLC, updated the database, etc.

Windows 7/64bit.

Thanks.

20.Linked cell positions in matrixes with the same dimensions 4/17/2011 2:43:25 PM

Thank you, Paul.

Great job on the new extended downloadable instruments.

I do hope that the broken feature we are talking about here gets fixed on the next release.

May I reiterate that what I think we need here is a new parameter in the VE Pro's Preferences page that will switch the "cell linking in matrixes with same dimensions" OFF or ON. This will correspond to the old behavior (that I believe many users still need) versus the new behavior (useful for using the Dimension Brass library).

Best regards,

A new version, 8008, is out but it doesn't seem to have the option you said it would. Unless I am missing something?...

I was so looking forward to this update (for this particular feature) and I am now a bit dissapointed.

I am reverting back to build 7349 (like 3 or 4 generations back)!!

Best,

Catalin

Thank you, Vienna team!

23.Linked cell positions in matrixes with the same dimensions 3/20/2011 6:36:41 PM

Hi Paul,

Not exactly...in the past (build 7349 and earlier) the matrix will remember its cell position. For example: select matrix1 and switch to A3. Then change to matrix2 (yes, now being the first time matrix2 is accessed, it will naturally go to the first cell = A1=default). If you then select A5 within this matrix2, and THEN go back to the previous matrix1, this will still be in A3 position. But in the current build of VIPro (linked cells), going back to matrix1 will result in position A5 - i.e. matrix1 doesn't remember it was in "A3" position before switching to matrix2.

Why would one prefer the way it was before (with the non-linked cells)? Well, let's consider an example: matrix1 loaded with short articulations (from stacatto to portato, etc...) and matrix2 loaded with fast repetitions. You have a phrase and need to switch back and forth between portato 0.5s and fast repetition of 180 BPM. Once you set matrix1 to A3 (for example, loaded with 0.5s) and matrix2 to A2 (for 180BPM fast repetition) then you only need ONE SINGLE keyswitch to switch between the two articulations. In the present (un-linked cells), you will need the whole combination of two or even three keyswitches inserted for EVERY jump from one articulation to another. This also goes for the A/B switching.

So, Paul, if I may note, it is very important that the matrix will "remember" its state (cell position) that it had before "losing focus" (moving to another matrix), and not automatically/always going to the first cell. Naturally this will happen though the first time the matrix is accessed (and before having the chance to move to cell XY). Just like it was in 7349.

Not sure if I could described the scenario clearly...please ask if there are questions about what I meant ;)

24.Linked cell positions in matrixes with the same dimensions 3/19/2011 1:45:37 PM

This "feature" was added as of build 7516.

Is it possible to please make it optional (via preferences)?

I think many users would normally use different sounds (patches) in different matrixes' cells so why would these cells be synced? I understand the reasoning with the Brass Dimenssion though...That's why making the sync ("cell linking")  optional would be much appreciated.

Going back to build 7349 for now.....

25.VEP Behaviour changed re: cells changing within matrixes 3/11/2011 1:29:39 PM

Thank you, Paul.

Any chance that this "matrix syncronizing" could become optional (via preferences) in a future update?

While I see the advantage of matrixes' sync for the situation of using Dimension Brass, I think that in most scenarios the corresponding cells in different matrixrs will have different patches loaded.
