1.Logic Pro X and VI PRO 6/5/2014 8:05:57 AM

Just installed the latest version of VI PRO.

After loading any percussion patch (#31) the instrument will play regularly, but the abbreviated patch name will not be shown in its own matrix cell and the cell coordinates (A!, A2, A3...) will be shown instead.

Any other short instrument name (winds, strings, brasses and so on) will be correctly shown.

Indifferent

Roberto

2.LASS legato chords emulation? 9/17/2013 3:03:51 PM

Excuse me if this question has already asked:

is there a way to replicate in VI PRO the LASS-Kontakt behavior? (legato chords while pressing the sustain pedal)

Thank you,

Roberto

3.USB Hub Recommendation? 3/26/2010 4:58:41 PM

I use a Hamlet eXagerate 7-ports USB hub (with external power).

It works fine with all peripherals (including iLok), but the Vienna Key + eLicenser becomes sometimes a nightmare...

4.no Trill patches in d/l cornet? 3/24/2010 4:44:28 PM

Thank you Herb.

The Cornet trill preset appears as a working one in VI, but no sound at all comes from the speakers.

I just thought I buyed a broken Cornet...

Smile

5.no Trill patches in d/l cornet? 3/24/2010 4:08:46 PM

anybody out there?

6.no Trill patches in d/l cornet? 3/23/2010 4:30:56 PM

It seems as if Trill patches (either whole tone and semitone) are missing in donwloadable Cornet: no patches, no trill...

Indifferent

7.error message 2/9/2010 4:36:13 PM

it works fine, now.

8.error message 2/9/2010 3:57:09 PM

After attempting to buy Flute 2 (download instrument), I got this message:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

9.Finale 2010 is out 6/1/2009 11:14:57 PM

Sometimes I have the impression that we are scraping the barrel.

Just an impression.

10.Finale 2010 is out 6/1/2009 11:13:35 PM

I guess Finale 2012 will be the end of the world :-)

11.Complete "The Rite Of Spring" performed by Jay Bacal 3/16/2009 4:55:48 PM

What about the Alpensinfonie, Jay?

Congrats, sincerely.

12.Persian Microtonal with VSL 12/30/2008 3:29:34 PM
A nice demonstration of VSL versatility and global attitude.

13.IRCAM solo instruments? 10/3/2008 4:08:18 PM
dm wrote:
Can anyone say, when working with Sibelius, if the UVI workstation will work alongside VI?

In Finale 2009 (Mac version) it does: one has to assign, say, Vienna Ensemble to channels 1-16 and UVI to channels 17-32 from the "Audio Units Instruments" menu.

I suppose it should work the same way in Sibelius...
14.IRCAM solo instruments? 9/29/2008 9:00:56 AM
I got the Ircam library.

As I wrote in Northernsounds it's a nice palette, and even the mainstream composer can succesfully blend it with any existing library and/or virtual instrument, VSL included, whenever he or she needs some dirty, grotesque, sarcastic, unusual or rough "contemporary" mood: with the Ircam lib you get tons of really uncommon and flawlessly recorded sounds, their demos give an exact idea of how it sounds right out-of-the-box and the library has nothing to do with VSL or EW. At the present time, it's not a VSL competitor: it's a (serious) contemporary solo instruments library, not an orchestral-FX one.

Their UVI player works, but, to be honest, it's not exactly a state-of-the-art piece of software. I guess (and hope) it will be improved...

15.A wise investment :-) 8/31/2008 1:56:09 PM

Are the ranges of the instruments in any way limited?

As far as I can see, it encompasses the standard range of the string section: from the Contrabasses' B0 to Violins' D7.

Best,

Roberto

I'll do of my best, Dietz.

Great job, bravo!

Got Appassionata Strings II three days ago, installed on this morning.

Wow...

Five stars of five.

18.About Finale Human Playback File for VI SE 8/18/2008 1:28:42 PM

You were right, Albert.

I assigned the very same name to staff/instrument, and HP worked correctly.

Thank you.

One thing that is very important for HP in Finale is that the instruments name are correct and displayed. If you have a violin stave you MUST write "violin" as a staff name for HP to recognize this one. This is done automatically when using the setup wizard in Finale but if you use the Default File (or the Vienna HP file) you will get no staff name at all and HP will not function properly.

Oops... I read through the whole HP manual but I must have missed the point... Angel

Please wait, we are working on this right now.

20.About Finale Human Playback File for VI SE 8/18/2008 8:40:27 AM

 Now from this:

I got this mp3

The "trem" expression mark is dimmed because I set it to "hidden".

Putting a graphic Note Expression tremolo mark (the two or three oblique lines on the stem) will result, instead, in a horrible Midi tremolo, not the VI sampled one.

i.e. and unless countermanded, the keyswitch will not be activated by a Note Expression tremolo.

Too bad.

Hmm

21.About Finale Human Playback File for VI SE 8/18/2008 7:07:16 AM

Albert,

after a good half-an-hour of frustrating attempts, I was able to get the keyswitching by choosing "Any/Custom Text" from the the "Instrument" tab in HP Preferences, then typing the word "pizz." into the "For the text expression containing" box.

It worked flawlessly.

Now I must explain myself why.

22.About Finale Human Playback File for VI SE 8/17/2008 4:09:19 PM

No way, Albert.

To me, the HP file does not work "as is", even after creating a "pizz." expression text from scratch (no playback options enabled): in Finale 2009, Vienna Ensemble keyswitches won't work, neither transposing the keyswitches from C0 to C1 and vice versa in the Vienna Instrument.

Could it have to do with HP Filter set on "On SoftSynth/Default Ext. Playback"?

Thank you anyway.

Sad

23.About Finale Human Playback File for VI SE 8/16/2008 3:30:59 PM

Does it work in Finale 2009?

To me, the keyswitches in the HP preferences do not match VI SE strings preset settings. But even after correcting and realigning them, when HP encounters, to say, a "pizz" text expression, HP won't turn the VI matrix to the pizzicato patch (= keyswitch F#0).

What's wrong, or what am I missing?

Thank you,

Roberto

I forgot about this! You are right!

HP for VI takes care of keyswitches automatically...

Saxmaster07 wrote:

Okay, so I have my Vienna Ensemble to play thru Finale 2009 and it works, but how do I make a keyswitch?

It's not very easy if you want to use the Expression Tool, as suggested in Finale 2009 online Help:

To add Keyswitches as Expressions

  1. Click the Expression Tool and Double-Click the document. The Expression Selection dialog box appears.
  2. Click Create. Or, you could also select
an existing Expression you would like to define to a Keyswitch and click Edit.
  3. Type the desired text. Set the font, size, style, make it hidden, or apply other text attributes.
  4. Click the Playback Tab. The playback options appear.
  5. From the Type Menu, choose Dump. The Playback Data Dump dialog box appears.
  6. For Number of Units, type 3. We will be sending 3 pieces of Data.
  7. For the top Data box, type 144. This is the message for Note On.
  8. For the second Data box, type the MIDI Note number for the Keyswitch. For example, Arco = 0, Pizz = 5 in Finale GPO).
  9. In the third data box, type 127. Since the note is below the instrument’s range, it will not sound.
  10. Click OK, OK, Select, and OK to add the Expression. The performance style will change upon reaching this point during playback.

I think you could more easily do as follows: add a staff, assign it the same channel of the "keyswitched" instrument, notate on it the keyswitches and then hide it.
