The plug-in named "Vienna Inst" isn't available on your system.  Choose another plug-in, or quit Logic Pro and install the plug-in on your iMac in order to use it in the project.

I am able to load Vienna Instruments Pro but it did not reassign all the sounds in my project.  I would have to manually reassign it myself.   Hmm, not what I was looking forward to doing."

I already reached out to   Hopefully, they can resolve this issue soon.

Up to a point, it's interesting and beneficial to examine how a situation like this comes about. How does an item of snake oil like this 3rd party workaround come into existence and get to be distributed and promoted, and yet take so long to be objectively recognised for what it actually is - an inferior piece of junk?

The well-being, productivity and development of any community who use and deal with technical products and technical matters in their everyday endeavours, depends very much on the qualities of truthfulness, objectivity and intellectual integrity in communications between and conduct of members of the community. Indeed modern science and engineering became what they are today by virtue of these qualities.

Unfortunately, even today we still find a tiny minority who do not (typically because they cannot) adhere to these virtuous ways which are the hallmark of good technological development and usage. For example, these unwholesome few favour mendacious self-serving narrative above objectivity. When everything is going well they exhibit plenty of fake friendliness and civilised 'niceness'. But the worst and most destructive part of it is, they readily use lies, projection, gaslighting, smear tactics, trolling, pity-plays, etc, etc, in their efforts to protect, preserve, propagate and promote their narratives in the face of any and all criticism.

There is no remorse, humility or shame to be found in these toxic types. Unless it serves a cunning purpose, they never accept responsibility or accountability for any wrongdoing; they'll always try to blame others. In their mendacious narratives, so-called "optics" are the principal concern rather than substance, objectivity or crucial facts. This is nothing new, but in today's world it is astonishing to discover it in play in technical matters, where empiricism has ruled for centuries. (The convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes is a notorious recent example.)

For these toxic few, reality is indeed "an aggression", because it threatens to upset their dysfunctional optic narratives about themselves and their activities. And then they so readily play the victim, inviting pity while busily projecting their own vices onto the 'perpetrator' of such 'aggression'. Sadly but obviously, such individuals are not suited to any technological endeavour.

There's no need for me to analyse this particular case any further. Many of us here have already seen the incredible doubling down on obvious technical untruth in the face of hard objective evidence to the contrary (e.g. "the volume control is linear", lol), by the individual involved. And his trolling, smearing, deflection, projection, 'victimhood', etc, have been in play in several controversies here and elsewhere.

Meanwhile, yet more realities await us. The technical underpinnings of our musical endeavours will no doubt continue to distract us sometimes and perhaps become a thorn in our side. But we persevere. We know that "fake it 'til you make it" is not the way for us. And we know that science and engineering are far too strong to be even dented by a toxic few who desperately need their self-serving interests and narratives to prevail above all.

7.Snake Oil VEP Multiport Workaround - AVOID 3/8/2022 9:32:34 AM

Maker has time to speak rubbish ; the screen copy of the Screen Monitor that he post on another thread show a bug that is causing traffic overload.

I have proposed to look at his Environnement to correct it but apparently he prefer to post long mails that do not help

Originally Posted by: Dewdman42 Go to Quoted Post

The thing you just explained is a potential issue but as you correctly surmised, probably very rare to happen; if at all.  And there is no possible way with the environment to work around that either since VePro plugin requires numerous cables to merge together to one instrument channel.  There is no good work around.  I even tried to do some Scripter solutions that would listen to the stream and when it detects two CC99's in a row, attempt to re-correlate to ensure that correct order is maintained.  That may or may not have been helpful its hard to say, but in my view there was no way to completely ensure that atomic ordering particularly with more than a couple of cables merging together.  However, I also found, like you, that I'm not sure if it was ever really happening; hard to say for sure.  If it did happen it would have been rarely and hard to detect other then experiencing rare occasional hung or missing notes.

However the above is not what was causing so many people to have hanging note problems with the old AU2 CC99 templates that were provided by VSL.  The problems with the original templates, which VSL did not ever address, are mainly a couple things:

  1. When you hit STOP in logicPro, it is normal to send out an All Notes Off and/or various note Off messages to cover notes that are currently sustaining at the time you hit STOP.  Unfortunately, it does not know anything about multiple ports in this case so it does not send enough NoteOff events and/or the ALL NOTES OFF operation also does not properly get routed with CC99 to all the places where Vepro is playing notes...thus leaving some notes hanging when you hit STOP.

  2. The second problem is related to a bug in the transformer which causes the CC99 transform to not always work correctly with NoteOff, particularly for notes stored in the region, in contrast to notes played live.  You can read more about this bug at the following link: https://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=137085&hilit=cc99, read down through the post until you see the section that explains the transformer bug.

  3. I vaguely recall also that when articulation sets came out, they were not properly routing keyswitches from the articulation set through the environment in order to insert CC99 in front of those events also.  I never tried to fix that issue, by the time I found out about that I was already moving on to AU3, which in fact works much much better then the CC99 trick.  But most likely this problem is also not solvable.

  4. The problem you mentioned in your post is also a potential issue, but in my view un-solvable and most likely pretty rare in any case.

The templates I provided as alternatives to VSL's; worked-around the first two issues.  The first is accomplished with a Scripter script to clean up Notes when you hit STOP, across all ports using CC99.  The second issue required some tricky environment programming to work around the transformer bug, which you can read about at the above link if you are interested.  As I said, I never bothered to fix the third problem, AU3 was already happening by then and much better.

All of this is really a moot point, I have recommended since a long time ago that that AU3 should be used instead, The AU2 CC99 trick was developed prior to VePro7.  AU3 is absolutely the way to go now for LogicPro-VePro multi port instances; since VePro7.

I just notice you are completely incompetent on Logic Environnement

Do not ask for help you are making us loosing our time.

In the Monitor Window you send me it show you have a problem that will cause a lot of unnecessary traffic and that may cause hanging notes in VEP

I will not write the two words because I am polite

The Environnement is a sort of programming language using objects, no relation with computers, Logic version and VSL version

In the example you send me, If you have play one note, C4, you have a problem because the note is sent MANY times

Be sure to click on the the monitor window to empty it before playing the note

In other words, Logic's Environment is some sort of ... erm ... transcendental thing?

I started getting seriously busy with digital sampling techniques for orchestral music production in 2001, using a 400 MHz iMac with Logic Audio Platinum v3.5, Reason v1, and Peter Siedlaczek's Advanced Orchestra samples. I immediately recognized Logic's Environment to be a wonderful facility in which to develop a concept I'd worked on theoretically back in the '70s - i.e., replacing Equal Temperament with authentic orchestral intonation. Way back then I had designed a mutliple-derivative divider to produce the set of tones I needed (using very high speed Motorola 2900 ECL chips), with the intention of synthesizing orchestral instrument sounds. Well I soon realised it was extremely difficult to synthesize authentic-sounding orchestral instruments, and was glad to see that the digital-sampling technique was far superior for orchestral music production. But then I became very busy with the stimulating challenges of high-end military work, and my ideas for music production lay dormant for years.

So anyway, Logic's Environment has been my main place of work ever since I first met it 21 years ago.

Perhaps I didn't clearly explain my own current situation with Logic. I have no problems working in High Sierra with VEPro AU3 7.0.1056 and Logic 10.4.8, using my AU3 multiport template. I shall continue with this configuration for as long as possible, hoping that Apple will eventually fix the new problems in Logic 10.7. But I also have a Big Sur boot volume in which I keep an eye on the state of affairs with later Logic and VEPro versions (though of course I won't know about Apple M1 operation until I buy M1 hardware).

I'm sure other Logic users who don't have the convenience of working with an older Logic in an older macOS may want to know about your VEPro AU2 multiport workaround, Cyril. Perhaps you will post something about it here? (Toutefois, Je suis certainement d'accord pour dire que la perspective d'une arriviste déclenché, jetant sa merde tout atour en conséquence, est désagréable pour vous et moi. Lol.)

Place an object "Monitor" just before going to the VSL VE object !

clear the monitor window and play one note

you should get a very few CTRL and your note

I'm finding strange behaviour in the Environment of Logic 10.6.3 in Big Sur. It's hard to pin down and might perhaps be simply a graphics display anomaly. It's not present in either Logic 10.4.8 (High Sierra) or Logic 10.7.2 (Big Sur). Pending further investigation and testing, all I can say at the moment is that it might not be advisable to regard Logic 10.6.3 as entirely safe for any projects that include custom additions in the Environment. I'll post further findings on this problem when and if I can get a clearer understanding of it.

In Logic 10.4.8 (in both High Sierra and Big Sur) I've found the Environment to be stable and safe, with only one known bug that had to be avoided by my own extensive designs in the Environment - i.e. the Transformer's 14-bit arithmetic is broken. It so happens that this particular bug has been fixed by Apple in the latest Logic, even though, ironically, the Transformer now appears to be seriously broken in new ways when connected in a MIDI note path.

If you are using 1st version of VSL Environnement it is quite normal you are experimenting a lot of repeated instructions.

I have send to VSL a corrected version that did not do it

I am also a 70 year old and retired  ; my job was system programming on many computers !

I spend hundred of hours working with the Environnement since 2005

As a design engineer (retired), what I find alarming is to discover a predatory arriviste who seems to think the "fake it 'til you make it" approach is appropriate in technical endeavours! Anyone who appears to feel entitled not only to speak out grandiosely as if an authority on technical matters in which he is (often very obviously) not an expert, but also to smear the work, opinions and good standing of others who are far ahead of him in expertise, surely is behaving maladaptively, to say the least. One of the difficulties in addressing this problem is that it has to be stopped through the interventions of others; because as professionals in such matters all indicate, individuals with that type of personality disorder simply do not have the conscience to stop themselves. (Think of, for example, convicted fraudsters Elizabeth Holmes and Anna Delvey.)

What I like and admire about this forum is the very high general standard of responsibility, honesty and integrity of enthusiasts, most of whom don't claim any professional technical standing. It grieves me to see an arriviste preying on these good folks.

Alas, I do hope you'll understand and forgive me when I say that I won't now be discussing this particular Logic problem any further here - unless of course there is some real news to report. The topic has now become too ... how can I put this ... 'contaminated'. And that's unfair on you also; I'd like to have discussed the problem with you. C'est la vie.

That said, it's easy for anyone to investigate this problem by setting some simple tests to provide the evidence.

I'm sorry I can't provide you with any Logic project files because my normal use of Logic involves a very large and complex subsystem that I've designed and built in Logic's Environment. Indeed I usually quickly set up special and mostly very simple tests in a clean and empty Logic project in order to investigate any problems with Logic itself, which was the case here. I'm afraid I've no tests saved to send you to save you the time. To give you some idea of my Environment subsystem I've attached a (deliberately blurred) shot of one part of an Environment layer; the whole subsystem occupies 16 new layers.

If you have touch VSL environnement YOU are ONLY responsible of your problem.

It's your problem to debug what you have add

18.Buggy behaviour: new Logic with VEPro AU3(Beta) & AU2 2/16/2022 4:25:15 PM

Cyril, generous of you to offer your help. But since I don't know you, nor have any idea of your work and level of expertise and experience with Logic's Environment, I have a few questions for you, hope you don't mind:-

   1.  VEPro doesn't appear in your list of kit. Is that perhaps just an accidental omission in your list?

I work with VEPRO since many many years, look at all the libs I own

   2.  If you do work with VEPro, do you currently have a good working multiport connection between VEPro and a large template in Logic 10.7.2, using either the AU3 or AU2 VEPro client plugin?

Many years ago I develop an environnement that use program changes to do articulation changes

   3.  Are you fully conversant with the two most widely mentioned VEPro AU2 multiport workarounds available for Logic's Environment:- (a) the original design as provided by VSL, and (b) what I regard as the "snake oil" revision of VSL's original, as noisily promoted and provided by a certain 3rd party?

After many trial on a 100 instrument template using VE PRO or IAC , I found that I have better result using VI, Logic workload is more equilibrated

   4.  Do you perhaps have, or know of, any other VEPro AU2 multiport workarounds that work properly in Logic 10.7.2's Environment?

There are two or three tricks in the environnement, I have correct V1 of the version of the AU2 Environnement given by VSL

19.Buggy behaviour: new Logic with VEPro AU3(Beta) & AU2 2/16/2022 12:42:31 AM

Your problem is remembering me problems I had when I develop my environment.

If you want to send me a song with just a few notes on a few midi port and on a few midi channel  that is causing you problem I can monitor the result and if It is the problems I had I could give you a fix for the environnement

Just cross fingers

For the sake of tying up loose ends, I've just been testing Logic 10.7.2 with and without the VEPro AU2 plugin, while still using VSL's multiport AU2 multiport workaround - also testing the snake oil 3rd party revision of VSL's AU2 workaround.

The good news for VSL is that the VEPro AU2 plugin appears to be innocent! Logic 10.7.2's Environment still produces its spurious garbage even without any VSL plugin!

The problem appears to be that the Transformer object in Logic's Environment is currently very badly broken. I discovered this by sending the output of VSL's AU2 multiport workaround addition in the Environment directly out on an IAC Bus, then examining what appeared on that IAC Bus in Snoize's excellent MIDI Monitor app. Logic's spurious garbage is there in all its glory in MIDI Monitor - with no VSL plugins in the Logic project at all! The snake oil revision of VSL's AU2 workaround, as expected, sends out the same garbage as VSL's version.

There doesn't appear to be any way of testing new Logic's multiport behaviour without the VEPro AU3 plugin, so at present I'm unable to demonstrate the guilt or innocence of the VEPro AU3 plugin in Logic 10.7.2.

Although it's no help to users of large templates in Logic, VEPro AU2 still appears to work normally in new Logic on a 1 Instance with 1 port per VEPro plugin basis - i.e. without the extra stuff in Logic's Environment as required for VSL's AU2 multiport workaround.

YES, very good support

Hello

You must check in Activity Monitor/ Memory/ Swap Used that the value is zero.

If it is not that mean that Mac OS will keep moving page off and to the disk

You have to ajust the Pre-load size in the Synchron player so Swap Used is zero.

Is is better to have multiple SSD, one for system, one for VSL and one for the other libs, SSD must not be plugged on USB 2 ; SATA III is the best ; be careful of cheap and slow SSD

You can monitor if other apps are using system resources in Activity Monitor/CPU

 Good luck

Cyril

Im used to starting with a fully purged session and then only the samples that are needed for playback are loaded. Im wondering if my new-ish 64gb mac mini can even support a full orchestral template with brass and strings and perc with with the synchron player.

Thanks for any tips and tricks on the matter.
