Look at the picture

2.Mac OS11 (Big Sur) 12/25/2020 12:12:52 PM

Hello

I had the solution from a Mac'Guru on a French forum

In Mission Control you need not to check "Display has separate Spaces"

That is the best Christmas Present

Best

Cyril

Hello

I have problem with Big Sur 11.1 and 2 x Samsung 49" screen and a MacBook Pro 16" that I just bought

I cannot extend the mixer on multiple screen, the answer from Apple is we do not deal with non Apple external screen

Did somebody had success with an Apple screen or a screen of another brand ?

Merry XMAS

Cyril

7.VI Expression Maps for Cubase converted for Dorico 11/15/2020 3:21:34 PM

Hello Andi

As you spend a lot of time making Expression Maps for Cubase for VI instruments I do not understand why they have not been converted/adapt  for Dorico.

You have already done most of the job.

I have spend more than 10 000 € in VI instrument and in MIR ! how do you think I feel !

Is it a political reason ?

Kind regards

Cyril

8.Synchron Pianos on ARM Macs? 11/11/2020 2:47:02 AM

I have watch the Apple conference and they say you can run any Intel code ! faster ??? good question !

Let see what the audio Software suppliers are saying

I am a member of the Core audio conference develloper at Apple, let see what they talk about

VSL is sometime a bit chilly to new technology, specially when they cannot charge for Developpement ; the last examples are NKS and Dorico Expression Maps, they are only available on Synchron base libraries and that after many year that the technology is available .

User that have paid many thousandS of euro on VI library and MIR can just sit down and cry

Imagine a 4 x Mac mini (one for string, one for brass, one for wind and one for percussions and keyboards) running a full orchestra at 4 x 699 $/799 € (4x8 = 32 cores......) using  Thunderbolt to the master !!!! WOW

You do not need a 24 000 € Macpro

9.LIBRARY management Please improve it 11/9/2020 1:43:29 PM

Hi Ben

This is a very good news

Kind regards

Cyril

10.LIBRARY management Please improve it 11/9/2020 3:34:21 AM

Hello

There now so many libraries, so many updates, so many software

It is time that VSL improve Vienna Download Manager so it is reconizing :

  • - A lib that is bought and that the files have not been dowloaded
  • - A lib that with broken links to it's files
  • - A Lib that was updated
  • - A software that has been updated
  • - A software that is missing
  • ........

A good example is the Library Manager of Native instrument Native access ; a great piece of software ! I am sure that VSL can even do better

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Cyril

P.S. This is specially useful when you have two computer, when you have lost a disk ........

13.Maximum number of instances (w/Logic Pro X)? 9/16/2020 2:11:53 AM

Can. you give the exact configuration of your setup including disks and how you have organise your disk(s).

(where is the system, the libs....)

Include audio parameter in Logic and in Ve-pro

Also can you give what is running on your master and on your slave

As you use many libraries you must test them to see how greedy they are

One trick in Logic to better use the different processor is to use VIs instead of VE-PRO

If you use SSD or Raid 0 of SSD you can reduce the preload buffer size.

Another is to have VSL on VE-pro and other libs  in Logic that you root to MIR via an audio track

At last can you give memory and disk meter in Activity monitor when you get hick ups

I had very bad surprise on a Choir libs eating all the memory !

I have very bad souvenir when I was using QLSO, it was so greedy, this is why I move to VSL

Another trick is to use Dry instruments and to add reverb on busses !

As I told you before if you are in trouble with too many track you convert the most heavy track to Audio track as an audio track use less CPU

5.1 o 7.1 recording are also much more greedy

The best trick on a computer is to spread the tasks and avoid to add layer to a task

VSL has work very hard to optimise the VI libs, this is not the case of other manufacturer of libs

You can write quatuor  with instruments using "a lot of note at high tempo" and let it play by you different libs and see what is the library that is the most greedy !

You must also be careful if you have big tutti

Writing orchestral music on a computer demands either a lot of money to have a big  setup with one master and many slaves or to be able to monitor what is happening the you run into clicks, pops ...

14.Why not crowd-fund/source the Dorico 3.5 Expression Maps? 9/14/2020 9:02:43 AM
15.Why not crowd-fund/source the Dorico 3.5 Expression Maps? 9/14/2020 8:27:29 AM

Hello Andi

We are waiting since 4 years for Dorico's expression maps !

Happy to know you are working on it

What about VI libs ?

Best

Cyril

16.Why not crowd-fund/source the Dorico 3.5 Expression Maps? 9/14/2020 5:22:23 AM

Hello

Andy is THE MAN for Expression Maps but apparently he does not like Dorico.

As Andy has done all the Expression Maps for Cubase, it should not take him too much time to convert them to Dorico

Maybe VSL has not Dorico ?

There are some expression Maps on Dorico's forum

I have tried to make a deal with VSL, the answer is : you do it for free !

17.Maximum number of instances (w/Logic Pro X)? 9/14/2020 4:57:43 AM

It is impossible to answer to your question, you use many libraries

it depends how much memory, CPU, disks, memory used by each instrument and at the end the tempo and the kind of note used i.e. if you do a tremolo with notes it will use more cpu than if you use a tremolo sample articulation

It also depends of the music of your client, if he will use articulation switching or one track per articulation

there are some musicians using 1 master and 10 servers with template of more than a 1000 instruments

If your client has the budget and is doing big score it is better to go for a single Macpro with a lot of memory and SSD disks

also you can find second hand MacPro 2010 for a good price.

when you go to the limit of your computer you can convert some track to audio to regain more tracks

I compose with a MacBook Pro on the road using Logic instruments and a very few VSL instrument, I transfer on my Macpro to finalise the song

18.CPU improvements of Master with 10 Gigabit Network 8/24/2020 3:32:06 AM

Do you have two Ethernet port on your 8 core 2013 Mac Pro ?

Why not adding another one ?

This is a French store :

https://www.macway.com/sonnet-solo10g-pcie-carte-10-gigabit-ethernet-rj45/p894282?oid=715944&gclid=Cj0KCQjwp4j6BRCRARIsAGq4yMERbJq_-KG2QuvFMyvjU3YWomzQy4AeC2PJiAriEtJwvZr-hKPKmkQaAm2iEALw_wcB

You should be able to find it in a store in your country

19.CPU Usage very high with Synchorn Libraries ? 6/26/2020 3:04:38 AM

What Mac ?

20.VSL and ARM Macs 6/25/2020 2:33:03 AM

Intel is overpricing it's CPU because it has the monopoly !

Looks this one :

Being Intel’s fastest 28-core CPU for multi-socket servers, the Xeon Platinum 8284 processor costs $15,460 (recommended customer price for 1k unit order, RCP), whereas the Xeon Platinum 8280 that runs at a 300 MHz lower frequency, costs $10,009 for 1ku.

How do you want to sell a Mac Pro at $ 5000  if it has 2 x Xeon 8284 processors at $ 30 020

Let's wait and see what is going to happened for Christmas !

Hello Andi

Dorico 3,5 contains major updates of the Expression Maps.

It will be a pity not to profit of them

Thanks  in advance

24.How to format new external SSD for best performance on Mac? 6/3/2020 10:31:05 AM

> The formating of the SSD does not make a difference when doing a speed test but it will make a difference on performance for loading the small sample files for the synchron player.

In VSL you can ajust the pre-load buffer size and you do this depeding of the speed of your I/O, smaller if the buffer size more you will put in memory but you will have more disk access.

You have to be carefull that there is no swap used in Activity Monitor

You can make a Raid 0 of SSD, it is saying you multiply by 1.5 the speed, the only problem is if you have a problem with your disk you loose all the SSD that are in your Raid 0, so you have to be very carrefull and have a back of your SSD on a large HD. I build a Raid 0 of 8 x SSD on a SATA III interface

a good thing to do is to spread your libraries accros mutiple disk

Have fun !
