Sonar might use a different octave that VSL. Go in to the sonar preferences and set the Default octave setting up or down 1 octave and see if that works.

C4 in VSL might be C3 or C5 in Sonar.

In context, I was speaking about the price going up because of people cracking software, thus making the software even more expensive then it is now to make up for the loss in revenue.

I don't know if this has been talked about since i did not read the past few pages, and I have been away from all forums for a while. My apologies if it has.

I would like to reply to your comment about the "key protecting your interests as a customer" comment. 

If VSL products we cracked sales would plummet, VSL's profits would plummet, their ability to produce libraries and software would dramatically be reduced, and in the end they would have to raise prices to make up for the loss, which would reduce many people's ability to purchase their amazing products.

Whether you are a pro or not, if they were forced to raise their prices then certainly only pro's or wealthy musicians would be able to afford it. Thats a very small percentage of buyers. That would lead VSL to lay off people, not upgrade their recording hardware as needed and sometime down the road their products will suffer and they would go out of business.

My sympathies to those who lose their dongles. I don't have a solution for that issue but I definitely don't want to see a solution that reduces quality of the products or VSL's financial stability. In the end, good copy protection is in the customer's best interest, its keeps the price of the products down and the quality up.

My 2 cents.

How about disabling the NIC?

I have a wireless NIC and if I leave it on during any a/v playback it

always causes clicks and pops.

Lastly, do you have another audio interface laying around or

can you borrow one from a friend to see if its just bad Win7

So, what is latency setting set to for the UA-25?

What audio driver are you using in Sibelius?

I know in Sonar I have a choice of WDM or ASIO.

WDM is useless and results in clicks/pops.

I had an FA-66 in the past and it was rock solid.

I think this might be a settings issue in the UA-25's control

panel and driver setting in Sibelius.

If someone at Notion or VSL can do this for all the VSL DVD products I would buy Notion in a heart beat.

I think it would be well worth your, Notion's, time to map the VSL content. There are a lot of SE users and many of them have 

at least some of the other DVD collection(s).

I have all the collections and it would take weeks to map the content. Time I don't have.

You need to first read the Sonar manual about scanning/loading VSTi's and where they need to be installed and make sure you installed the VSL files in the right place accordingly, i.e. "VSTplugins" folder for the software and sample content on some non-system drive. Sonar needs to know where to look for the VSL software file, I think the file name is "ViennaInstruments.dll".

Regarding the MIDI file issue and not seeing the sound library, not sure why a MIDI file would do that but, check the VSL Directory Manager and see where its pointing to for the sample content and make sure the samples are in fact in the place where they are listed in the Directory Manager. Check the actual location on the hard drive.

Can you run the stand alone VI with success? Loading instruments OK? Get sound?

Sorry but, it will help if you read the manuals first instead of expecting us all to hold your hand right from the get go. Forums are here to help someone AFTER they have tried a few things and failed.

Anyway, it will do you much good reading the manuals overall and it will help us help you better since you'll know what we're talking about.

You should know what I mean about VSTi, scanning for VSTi's, VI, Directory Manager....

What are the exact keyswitches? C1, C#1?

If you open the MIDI file and import the FXP into the VI you'll have all the same articulations as the demo used.

Now you can study how the piece was crafted and achieved. I guess its more like a self tutorial.

If the Beethoven does not include the example you are looking for try some of the others,

maybe the Borodin, Tchaikovsky, or Sarasate?

Bottom line is that if you are not happy with the VSL Solo Strings you are out of luck because

its well known that its the best solo strings library on the market.

Whatever the workarounds are we all try to learn them because these are truly 

beautiful and unique samples. 

You may have to compose to the samples strengths in some areas but mostly,

with these samples and all the rest of the the VSL libs you can let your imagination

drive the samples and not the other way around like with other libs.

I understand there are issues but there are also workarounds,

you just have to find them.

I can't say much about your performance issues, I'm on PC w/ Quad CPU

and can load dozens of instances.

Legato samples are not looped. If you hold the note until it stops and then release it you will trigger the release sample.

You can:

-turn off release samples

-or re-trigger the note before it ends

-or crossfade to a sustain patch, but that will cause some phasing as you crossfade

Best thing to do is to re-trigger the note or use a sus patch.

I have the same software. All is well here.

Try selecting "All Synth Outputs: Stereo" in the Sonar dialog box when you insert VE. That way Sonar will load audio tracks assigned to each of the output in VE, then you can assign outputs in VE on a per instrument basis.

Works for me.

I saw a demo of a bass VI from another company on youtube and one very interesting feature it had was Momentary Keyswitching and I thought it was brilliant. 

What do you guys think?

Here is how it works:

After setting up your keyswitches (KS) in the VI, KS "1A" can be the "Master" KS.

Now every time you hit another KS and HOLD it the VI will switch to that articulation for as long as you hold the KS down and when you let go it jumps back to the "Master" KS (1A).

This can reduce the amount of KS's required.

One more cool feature was that the currently depressed KS becomes the Master KS so if you depress/hold another KS while holding the 1st one when you let go of the 2nd one it will jump back to the KS you are holding.

Of course this is not good when you need to play with both hands or do other CC programming while you play/record but there are some good uses for this feature for those who use lots or articulations via keyswitches and there maybe some creative applications as well like repeating a note but jumping articulations at certain intervals. That would be laborious to program now but with Momentary KS'ing it would be easy, and fun.

I can't seem to get a straight answer/info anywhere. Is VEPro able to see all the computers RAM (beyond 4gb), say while running in ProTools on a Mac with Snow Leopard as the OS?

The info is so ambiguous or I'm not looking in the right place for which I apologize for my ignorance.
