1.NEW: German Upright 1904 & Keys Special 6/15/2022 2:24:27 PM

Thanks for the demo option. I'll be trying out the new upright today. Also, the entire revamp with iLok and Vienna Assistant is a real winner. The entire process of acquiring licenses and sample content is so easy. Now all we need is the M1 version of Synchron Pianos and life will be complete. 😀

God Bless,

David

2.iLok and Cloud Activation is Working Great! 3/27/2022 7:08:18 AM

I'm very thankful for all the nice videos Paul and the VSL team put together to make the transition to iLok as smooth as possible. I watched all the videos (very informative) and made the transition without difficulty.

I really appreciate the cloud activation feature. I'm part of the group that only needs 99% availability. iLok cloud is a real benefit for me because I use my computer/synchron pianos at home and work. Now I don't have to worry about the dongle getting lost in transit or accidentally leaving it at one of the locations (which has happened before). The cloud is working great for me.

I'm very happy to be part of this new era and I'm thankful for the product support VSL has offered. Now I'll patiently wait for the switch to M1 native compatibility. 🙂

Thank you VSL Team.

God Bless,

David

3.Misinformation from Vienna Assistant 3/25/2022 6:04:13 PM

Yikes! Another discovery.

I found that I can manually "Add Existing Libraries" (upper left corner menu) and now my products show up as installed on my computer.

The earlier version of VA (10118) did this automatically after the install. Version (10121) did not do it. But I suppose the "Add Existing Libraries" feature will remedy that no matter what versions of VA you're using.

All seems to be good. Hopefully, I'm not cluttering this forum up with my meanderings through the migration.

God Bless,

David

4.Misinformation from Vienna Assistant 3/25/2022 5:50:28 PM

Ok, I think I really did figure it out now.

VSL sent out an email telling Mac users to install an older version of Vienna Assistant (10118) because the current version (10121) would not automatically update. I had already installed my products with the version (10121) and therefore it won't update to show that they are actually installed even though they are and I can use them.

I had to reinstall one of my pianos because I accidentally uninstalled it trying to figure this stuff out. I reinstalled it using the older version of VA (10118) and now that piano shows up in VA as installed on my computer. I also reinstalled Synchron Pianos with the older version of VA and it also now shows up in VA as installed as well.

Does this mean that anything installed with the dysfunctional version of VA (10121) needs to be reinstalled with the older version? Is it really important for VA to recognize all products as installed on my computer? They work either way.

God Bless,

David

5.Synchron Piano Player cannot open the user preset 3/25/2022 3:10:08 PM

Synchron Pianos doesn't open my old presets after the switch to ilok. I get an "eLiscenser POS Error Message" that says, "File Synsoacc.bundle could not be located in the Application Support folder."

I've sent this information to VSL support, but I don't have a high expectation that this can be remedied.

God Bless,

David

6.Misinformation from Vienna Assistant 3/25/2022 7:35:00 AM

I think I figured it out.

Vienna Assistant will not show Vienna Products on your computer unless those products are installed/moved to Vienna Assistant. It will show products that are actually installed in the Vienna Assistant app. From the app you can move/copy/uninstall the products. If the products are moved outside of the app then you get the message that there are no Vienna products installed on this computer, which is still misinformation because they are on the computer, just not in Vienna Assistant App anymore.

I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to work, but that's how it's working for me. Now it took me over 24 hours to download 2 Synchron Pianos. When I was experimenting and moved one library back to the Vienna Assistant, I clicked uninstall and it deleted it from my SSD. RATS!!!!!!! :-(

I thought it was only going to delete it from the App and leave it in the file it was moved from. Wrong assumption on my part.

1. If no products are showing up in Vienna Assistant, but are actually installed on your computer, you can move them back to Vienna Assistant and they will then show up as on the computer. However, be very careful because if you uninstall them from Vienna Assistant they will be uninstalled from your computer. :-(

2. Besides being a download assistant, I'm not sure what other benefit Vienna assistant has. You don't need VA to copy files or move files from one location to another even though it can be used for that. It seems like an unnecessary extra step if you use VA for those common transfer/copy/delete functions.

Now I've got to spend another day downloading what I accidentally deleted.

God Bless,

David

7.Misinformation from Vienna Assistant 3/25/2022 7:01:47 AM

Mac OS Monterey 12.2.1

I logged in/out serval times/restarted the VA app and it gave me the same misinformation.

From what I understand about "download only" is that it only downloads and doesn't install. I didn't use that option and therefore the libraries installed after the download to the designated folders.

Everything works fine with the exception of 2 things.

1. Synchron Piano Player won't open any of my previously saved presets. However, I have submitted that to VSL support.

2. Vienna Assistant gives me the misinformation that there are no Vienna products on my computer even though I'm actually using them via cloud activation. Jut to repeat, everything downloaded fine and is working (I'm playing the pianos) even though VA says there are no Vienna products on my computer.

God Bless,

David

8.Misinformation from Vienna Assistant 3/25/2022 5:28:36 AM

I've successfully migrated to iLok. I downloaded my Synchron pianos via the new VA app. Really nice! Cloud activation good! Pianos sound good! However, when I open the VA app it says, "There are currently no Vienna products installed on this computer." Under "Not Installed," it shows the products I already installed. Is this a bug or does it have to do with cloud activation? Per VSL I deleted the newest version of VA and installed v10118 on my Mac. However, it showed the same misinformation on both versions. Anyone else experience this?

David

Is machine activation not as secure as Cloud/dongle? What's the reason why. I'm not saying we're entitled to a reason, but I am curious why it's not an option and I think the original poster is also.

11.MISSION COMPLETED: Moving from eLicenser to iLok 3/17/2022 1:38:53 PM

I've watched all the videos. Very well done. It's obvious you put the work into this to make the transition smooth as possible. Exciting times. Thank you.

A few questions not addressed in the videos (unless I missed it).

1. Since there is no "deposit" button option when linking my VSL account to iLok, that means my spot in the boarding process has not come up yet. Correct?

2. I currently own three VSL licenses purchased in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Will all three of those products be eligible for transfer at the same time?

3. Based on the years my purchases were made, do expect my transfers to be eligible in a few weeks, months, or next year?

4. Will the new Vienna Assistant (iLok) download an M1 (Universal Binary) version of Synchron Pianos?

Thanks for the help.

God Bless,

David

Yeah, hopefully we'll see VSL/M1 compatibility soon. Other software that I use, such as, VILabs and Native Instruments, that are Universal Binary, run soooo much better than VSL on my M1 MacBook Pro.

It's time VSL. Looking forward to the update.

Hi Paul,

Is there any possibility you will allow machine activation or is VSL firmly decided on cloud or key only?

Thanks VSL. You're doing a great job.

15.Piano Demo License 1/5/2022 8:01:41 PM

I get so much joy from playing the Bosendorfer Imperial on a daily basis. The warmth, even tone, and lower register rumble inspires me to learn and arrange more songs.

I vote for the BI.

VSL Team,

Any plans to address multi-threading and/or Apple M1 compatibility in Synchron Pianos?

Thanks for the consideration.

Here you can access the option (in the engine settings).

Settings | VSL - Software Manuals

Unfortunately, those settings don't do anything at all (that I'm aware of).

I don't know if that's possible. If it is, I don't know how to do it. Opening multiple channels in MainStage works great for inducing multi-threading. This is verified by observing CPU usage in Activity monitor. The largest preset I use is 5 mics over 3 channels with latency set at 64. My new MacBook Pro doesn't even break a sweat with those settings.

I also found recently that MainStage will open the Synchron Piano plugin even when MainStage is not running through Rosetta. The computer actually performs better not running MainStage through Rosetta.

David

20.Synchron Pianos and MacBook 2021 12/12/2021 4:52:47 PM

Hello VSL team,

I recently traded in my older Intel Macs for a new MacBook Pro M1 pro: 10 Core, and 16GB memory.

It's by far the best performing Mac I've owned and that includes running Synchron Pianos via Rosetta. However, I still run into the same problem with multi threading issues (or lack thereof) running Synchron Pianos that I had with my Intel Macs.

Synchron pianos performs way better when I run it as a plugin via MainStage and open several channels, a couple mics per channel. I can run as many mics as I want with no perceivable latency. I can't even get the fans to turn on in the new MacBook Pro it runs so efficiently. And that's running MainStage and the plugins through Rosetta.

However, the performance is considerably diminished when just using Synchron Piano player as a standalone. This new MacBook Pro should be able to handle it, but I think it's because Synchron Pianos is not optimized for multi-threading and/or the Apple's new M1 chip.

Any plans on making changes to Synchron Pianos in those two areas? Will it ever be optimized for the M1 Chips and/or multi-threading? Thanks for the consideration.

God Bless,

David

21.Synchron pianos, "unrealistic" attack for soft playing? 12/12/2021 4:30:18 PM

I know you mentioned having the Vienna Imperial, but you should try the new Bösenddorfer Imperial Grand. After having owned all of VSL's pianos, I find the BI Grand to be the most natural and warm sounding library. The attack seems to be well balanced along with the rest of the piano. I find I don't need to make any individual key adjustments. It's my favorite library to play.

I just noticed the same problem yesterday. OS 12.0.1 Monterey with latest Synchron Piano update and Roland FP30X. I actually came here to start a thread on this subject. Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem.

Best, Ben

That's not good. Is machine activation more susceptible to misuse?

So, without a constant internet connection a person is simply going from one dongle (eLicenser) to another (iLok). The dongle seems to be one of the reasons why people don't want to buy VSL products and you really haven't addressed that since a constant internet connection will seemingly be irritating to people. I'm not sure if it will be comparably irritating, but I'm sure it will be irritating to some none the less.

It doesn't impact me because I'm not bothered by the dongle, but it makes it difficult to be an ambassador for your products because most people don't share my opinion when it comes to dongles.

Thanks for the clarification.

God Bless,

David

I currently use iLok with VI Lab's piano software and it doesn't require a constant internet connection or dongle. You need an internet connection to initially download the license and then after that the software runs on the computer even if it's not connected to the internet.

I'm sure iLok will work the same way with VSL software.

25.[SOLVED] Synchron Piano + 100% CPU = unplayable library 5/14/2021 4:29:40 AM

I really don't know much about this topic, but just a reference, here are my computer specs.

2018 Mac mini, 3GHz 6-Core Intel I5, 16 GB ram, 1 TB SSD

Synchron Piano v1529, Latency 64, Preload 16384.

I can run 3 Mics easy and 4 (most of the time) depending on the music. If I open up Synchron Player in MainStage (as my DAW), I can run as many mics as I want as long as I split them up over several channels.

Maybe this information helps. If not, sorry to waste your time.

God Bless,

David
