1.Velocity XF Global issue 12/13/2020 8:06:24 AM

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I have the same issue:

Loading a preset like VI-14 Preset Level 1. Under perform I enable Velocity XF and assign it CC2. Working great. But then I disable velocity XF for the staccato cell for example, by changing from 'global' to 'off'. Staccato still only responds to CC2 and not velocity.

Doing the same with any of the woodwind presets works absolutely fine, but the issue persists across all orchestral strings presets.

How to solve?

2.VEP prevents sleep 9/17/2020 11:59:10 AM

Is there a way to stop VEP preventing sleep?

3.VEP 6 Surround in Logic 4/17/2017 12:18:37 PM

I managed to create a 5.1 server project. But how do I connect from Logic (10.3.1)?

I create a surround instrument channel in Logic, but the available VEP plugins are only Stereo and Multi Output (16x stereo). There is no surround plugin available.

Choosing either the the stereo or the multi-outplut plugin: I can't change the the channel configuration, the the plugin window's preferences. The only options are: Audio Outputs, Midi Ports, Audio Inputs, Auto Raise Instance.

VEP Version used: 6.0115864

4.VEP5: Fast connection but slow disconnection 10/18/2015 6:58:18 PM

I have now noticed the following:

Connection and disconnection is fast if all instances are preserved and de-coupled. Disconnection from let's say 30 instances happens in about 2 seconds in total.

Disconnection is slow if there is just one unpreserved instance, amongst many preserved instances. Let's say you have 30 preserved instances and and 1 unpreserved one. It will disconnect slowly from even all the preserved instances, 1.5 sec each, making it a total of 46 seconds. If the unpreserved insatcnes is removed from the session, the total disconnection time is again back to only 2 seconds.

It's the same behaviour on a local host or external slave. Mac or PC.

VSL, could it be sorted that the unpreserved instances down slow down everything else?

5.VEP5: Fast connection but slow disconnection 10/8/2015 4:52:57 PM

Now with the last few latest versions of VEP 5 my mac connects to the PC slave quickly, eg to 20 instances in about 4 seconds. The problem is still that disconnection takes significantly longer. 2-3 seconds per instance. Which can add to quite a lot with a template of 50 instances. This used to be all instant on a much older systems with VEP4(?) I had a couple of years ago.

Reducing the number of audio outputs in the VEP preferences/connection settings makes no difference. I used fixed IP, on a separate network. As mentioned, connection is fast, so I doubt it's a IP issue. The problem persists even when disconnecting from empty instances, with no plugins or VIs loaded. Decoupling / preserving / unpreserving makes no difference.

Incidentally, when connecting to a local instances on the mac, the disconnection is instant. The problem is when disonnecting from the external slave. Would anyone have a solution for this?

Host: Logic Pro X 10.2.0, Mac Pro (2012) 10.9.5, VEP 5.4.13845
Slave: Carillon PC, VEP 5.4.13845, Windows 7

6.Slow connection to VE Pro 5 on slave 2/5/2015 4:55:01 PM

I wasn't quite clear what you meant, because when I set the port DHCP no IP address gets assigned as there is no gateway - it's a direct connection.

HOWEVER: I simply turned on DHCP, then again to manual and enetered the same IP as before. And IT WORKS! MUCH FASTER CONNECTION! THANK YOU!

One thing I noticed that after shutdown the same problem re-appears. But then I just go through the same procedure. I swapped the VSL network to 'ethernet 1' on the mac pro, and it seems to work well now, even after shut down.

I wonder what all this is about??!

7.Slow Load up times on external machines Logic and Vienna Ensemble Pro 2/3/2015 6:54:36 PM

Simon, have you ever got this resolved? I changed from VEP4 to VEP5 and my connection times increased massively too. (see my other thread which I just posted).

8.Slow connection to VE Pro 5 on slave 2/3/2015 6:02:44 PM

Hi. Previously I had Logic (on Lion) connecting to a Windows 7 slave running VEP Pro with 14 instances and it connected the whole lot in about 1 second total.

Now I updated to Mavericks and VE Pro 5 and each instance takes 5 seconds to connect (total 70 sec), which is a real workflow killer. No networking settings on either machine were changed. I also tried to go back to VEP 4, but now the slow connection time persists, even in VEP 4. All instances are preserved and decoupled.

How can I get the fast connection again?

Host: Mac Pro, OSX 10.9.5, Logic 10.1 (or 9.1.8), VE Pro build 5.3.13407, fixed IP address 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0

Slave: Carillon PC, Windows 7, VE Pro build 5.3.13407, fixed IP adress 192.168.1.6, subnet 255.255.255.0

No router is used for the VEP network. Direct connection. Wifi is off. Connection from Mac to Internet is via separate Ethernet port with DHCP connecting to router with IP 192.168.0.1

9.Hanging notes! 3/5/2012 11:45:10 AM

Gubik wrote:
I've noticed that the hanging notes mostly takes place during playback in cycle mode and within identical MIDI channels from differnet MIDI port. For example if I playback a musicial phrase using MIDI Port 2/Midi channel 1, an unwanted hanging notes appears randomly at MIDI Port 1/Midi channel 1. This might suggest that the "Micro" used to identify the "Port" might not functional properly in Logic Pro.

Very interesting. This is the likely cause of my hanging notes too, as each string instrument has its own port, e..g  ch1 solo violin, ch2 violin chamber strings, ch3 violin sord chamber strings etc etc. This makes it very likely that most parts share the same midi channel. For me it happens just as much when not in cycle mode.

I am still using VE Pro 4.1.8008, each 'port' is in a separate instance, but you seem to be using VE PRo 5's new multi port facility? What's a "Micro"?

Another side effect of what you're describing is a problem with Mackie Control Universal. The MCU doesn't recognise separate tracks with the same midi channel, even if they are cabled to different VE Pro instances. This results in a weird duplication of fader channels on the MCU. My workaround is to always send to some unused MidiOverLan ports at the same time, ie sending midi into blank space, just so that the MCU can distinguish between tracks.

10.Hanging notes! 8/11/2010 1:30:15 PM

I have still the same problem too, playing Kontakt samples from a slave, but only on playback, not while recording or playing midi. When I run the same template in VE Pro standalone, and send midi via MidiOverLan, or hardware midi, there are no hanging notes, only in server mode via ethernet audio. Most of the time it's fine, but then suddenly some notes start to hang. One odd thing that I noticed is that it only happens to me when I do 4-5 part writing with quite independent voices. Block chords are never a problem. The slave also runs a lot of VSL instruments with no problems.

host: Logic 9.1.1 (in 32 bit mode), VE Pro 6150, Mac Pro Intel 8 core, 10GB RAM, Mac OS 10.5.8

slave: 11 instances of VE Pro 6150 (64 bit server, multiprocessing 1 thread per instance) , Kontakt 4.1.0 (multiprocessor support disabled) , running Spitfire Audio library, Windows XP64, quad core Xeon 24GB RAM

Karel, would it help if I sent you the Logic file in question (I could mark where notes hang) and the corresponding Vi frame file (you'd have missing Kontakt instruments though)?

11.Currently scoring sex scene with Download Sopranos 7/29/2010 7:34:17 PM

Nothing louche, mainstream BBC. This library is perfect for it. Just wanted to let you know.

Btw: We have "Ra", "Ta", "Sa" but no "La" for La la la....?

12.VE PRO CPU use 7/27/2010 11:12:58 AM

So, for a slave (1 x Quad Core Xeon) with 11 VE Pro instances (8 x Vienna, 3 x Kontakt 4), is it best to set the threads to "1"? Also would you advise to disable multiprocessor support in Kontakt?

At the moment I am only getting a glitch free operation with a 512 sample buffer on the host (Logic 9), but this feels just too slow when playing in parts. All the VE Pro plugins in Logic are set to 2 x buffer. There are many variables, and it's hard to find out where the bottleneck is. The problem doesn't seem to be CPU power on either host or slave. During playback of sessions, the CPU meters on either machine hardly go beyond 10%, except core 8 in Logic which seems busy with the Lexicon reverbs, but even if those are disabled, it's not possible to get lower latency operation with VE Pro.

13.[SOLVED] Ve Pro suddenly not saving with Trilian?? 6/23/2010 12:31:06 PM

FYI Trillian 1.3.2c 32bit with server mode switched on is saving ok here with VE Pro 5814, Mac OS 10.5.8, though sometimes a patch simply won't play, always on midi channel 2. It receives midi, but there is no output. Sometimes reloading the VE Pro instance gets it working again.

14.Ve Pro 64 bit on Leopard 6/5/2010 7:57:19 AM

Thanks Paul. It was probably a silly question to start with...

15.Ve Pro 64 bit on Leopard 6/3/2010 8:10:08 AM

I just tried VE Pro 64 bit server on Mac OS 10.5.8 with Spectrasonics Trillian 64 bit and it works fine. I thought true 64 bit support only came with Snow Leopard - but is this a supported combination? Will the extended memory usage work in Leopard?

16.VE PRO 4.0.5814 PUBLIC BETA available 5/31/2010 11:27:22 AM

Thanks DG. I think I'll wait for a bit more feedback.

17.VE PRO 4.0.5814 PUBLIC BETA available 5/31/2010 10:36:36 AM

Sounds good. How safe is it to install public beta versions? Is it easy to revert to the previous version?

18.Large templates in VE Pro 5/26/2010 10:35:05 AM

My XP64 slave (Quad core Xeon E5420 2.5GHz) runs a VE Pro 5436 template with 8 instances of Vienna Instruments and 3 instances of Kontakt 3.5, a total of 21 GB. While it plays back everything fine (except some hanging notes in Kontakt, mentioned in another thread, but that even happens on a 500MB template), the problem is that certain editing, particularly within Kontakt becomes extremely sluggish, and will eventually lead to crash VE Pro. For example editing midi cc curves in Kontakt. If I just load one of those Kontakt instances there is no problem.

There is still 3GB memory free on the machine. Would this have something to do with video RAM? Or is there any other system setting that could be changed?

19.Making a VE Pro Clone Setup 5/25/2010 10:47:40 AM

If you currently have a lot of projects that need to open in both rooms you could keep the IP on your slaves the same as before, and put your LAN (internet, filesharing) on a different IPs and subnet. Perhaps that would be easier.

Is there any way to force VE pro to connect to new slaves?
I don't think at the moment, but Karel has I think something up his sleeve regarding this.

I am sure you checked this, but have definitely got unique IP addresses for each computer? And have you set up the two ethernet ports separately in the Mac's system settings? It may be an idea to assign your "VE Pro network" under a different subnet: For example 192.168.1.1 for the mac, 192.168.1.2 for the slave. For your LAN you could give the Mac the address 192.168.0.1.

21.Making a VE Pro Clone Setup 5/22/2010 4:52:56 PM

Perhaps your computers have 2 ethernet ports each. At least both my Mac Pro and my PCs have dual ports. You can then use one port for VE Pro only, and have a small gigabit network for each room. You then assign the same two static IP addresses to both sets of slaves.

The other ports are then connected to your main LAN across the rooms, for file transfers, internet etc. They can even have automatically assigned IP addresses via DHCP.

I am curious to see however, if VE Pro will still connect to the computer in the other room though. I think you may have to make sure the computers also have the same "name" (the name comes up in the list of available servers in the VE Pro plugin in your host).

22.VE Pro Note and GUI Hang 5/20/2010 9:46:22 AM

Thanks for looking into it, Karel.

DAW: Logic 9.1.1, OS 10.5.8, VE Pro 5436 (AU)

Server: Kontakt 3.5 (VST), Windows 7 64bit  (also tried XP64),  VE Pro 5436

It doesn't always happen. But when it does happen, it happens on the same section repeatedly, about 80% of the time. Often moving a note away from the barline helps. The worst is when all notes are quantised to 1/4 notes.  It seems to happen most often when there is a section with 4 intertwining legato string parts. I am using a private Kontakt strings library. I also tried removing all controller data from the tracks, but that doesn't help either. I am not getting the GUI hang, just note hangs, or non-playing notes. As mentioned the same patches work fine when VE Pro is in standalone mode.

I am ruling out the sleep mode explanation, as over a section some of the notes play, some don't, some hang, all over the course of a few seconds.

23.VE Pro Note and GUI Hang 5/19/2010 6:53:37 AM

Interesting, so it looks like on Mac it has something to do with Vienna. However, on PC, there is no memory server anyway, and the problem is still there, even without any Vienna Instruments.

24.VE Pro Note and GUI Hang 5/18/2010 7:53:40 PM

Praying for a next VE Pro version fix here too...

Not here. I tried it on a computer that has no Vienna Instruments installed at all and I get the same behaviour.
