1.MIR 24 4/3/2012 7:29:54 AM

Well I'd like to know if MIR24 will require Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 to work? (MIRpro does as stated on your website...)

I'd really appreciate if it would be functional with the free version of vienna ensemble software.

Thanks in advance

Torsten

2.Any chance of a Vienna Choir 'Wordbuilder' Library? 2/7/2012 9:08:59 AM

Well a release of Vienna Choir with Wordbuilder function would be awesome.

If that has been available I wouldn't had to purchase East West QL Symphonic Choirs last week.

The idea behind EWQLSC to let a choir sing your own words is simply amazing.

But that program has also some disadvantages - here a few facts:

- it lacks the convenience of the VSL products

- wordbuilder function is limited to ensemble groups (sopranos, altos, tenors, basses, boys)

- it's built-in language VOTOX is not really suitable for other languages (at the moment I am trying to get best german sound out of it but it's a bit tricky and I often have to compromise)

- it's not recorded in any kind of "silent stage" (as far as I know) - even when turning off the reverb it sounds a bit wet

- legato mode doesn't reach the quality of VSL

Well I hope this will lead you to the conclusion that there is a huge gap in virtually generated music that VSL should urgently fill up with new products. I am convinced that you are the only one who are able to produce virtual instruments that sound as realistic as real instruments... (you almost did with Vienna Imperial)

Best,

Torsten

3.Vienna Pro 2 Library Updates 11/26/2011 8:03:01 AM

Good idea. Although I find it not very uncomfortable to look for updates on my own. But perhaps that needs more time when having purchased more VSL products^^ ;-)

Perdurabo wrote:
Please excuse my ignorance, but how would an example MIDI file help? Would it not be more helpful to post an audio file to demonstrate the sustain dropouts?

If delavagus says he encountered sustain dropouts then I do belief him. Well I also own Vienna Imperial. With such a midi file I could check out if that happens the same way on my computer.

5.Trumpet Bb Patch Fix 11/15/2011 5:03:19 PM

Dear VSL-Team,

I lately purchased your download product "Trumpet Bb".
While playing around with the patches I encountered a serious patch error in "03 TrBb_perf-portamento_tight".
I have also send a short audio demo to you but first let me try to explain the exact problem:
This patch uses 2 velocity layers - a lower and a upper one.
There is a sample missing when moving legato-like upward from G5 to A5.
That problem only occurs while playing the lower/quieter velocity layer.

I definitely look forward to an update of that patch.

Best,

Torsten

6.Imperial - sustain notes cut off 11/15/2011 9:18:25 AM

Hello to everyone,

I also tried to reproduce the problem mentioned above but I have NOT encountered any of these problems - even with Polyphony of 80! Perhaps an midi example file would be very helpful!

My system configuration can be found below.

I use the Emu 1820m, which I believe is the same driver as the 0404, along with Cubase, and Vienna Imperial works perfect for me, I have it set to Latency = 128 in standalone, or 8mS within Cubase when setting it with the EMU control panel. The EMU ASIO driver has always been very reliable, and I would always recommend using that rather than the generic ASIO4ALL.  ASIO4ALL is OK as a last resort, when nothing else works, but with a known good solid EMU driver, I would concentrate on seeing why that is showing odd latency values, the values mentioned of 88/880 should not exist - so where they are coming from is a mystery, but is probably where the problems lie.

As already mentioned above getting the standalone version working wasn't a problem at all after setting the latency settings to samples with powers of 2 by my own.

The former "88" or "880" samples latency settings aren't as mysterious as they seem. As an user of EMU ASIO drivers you probably know that in latency settings of cubase you have to select latency in ms. By default I work with 20 ms. At an earlier point of this thread I was asked for latency in SAMPLES. When I opened standalone version of VIPro with my default settings I noticed that the latency settings in samples are shown at the bottom of that window - at least I thought that these numbers could be the latency settings in samples. For 20 ms I read 880 samples. And for 2 ms I saw 88 samples. So that's where the numbers were coming from.

Strange that you can select 8 ms within cubase!? I have only listed those latency settings in ms: 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 20, etc. None of them worked with convolution reverb. Thats why I thought of always using ASIO4ALL.

8.Future Vienna Instruments Pro 3? 11/8/2011 8:12:36 AM

But right now is probably the worst time for this. We´re wrapping up 3 advanced software products, that will keep you busy and happy for quite some time Wink

We´d appreciate if you check those out first.

Sounds good. Thanks. I'll have a look at your new features at release of VIPro2.

Kind regards,

9.Future Vienna Instruments Pro 3? 11/7/2011 10:50:18 PM

Dear VSL-Team, :-)

As an ambitioned user of your software and instrument libraries I always think about possible improvements when using your virtual instruments.

Currently I am planning to create a short presentation of some let's say interesting ideas or features to improve Vienna Instruments Pro Player in order to make my visions understandable to you in a at least semi-professional way. Perhaps it will take a few weeks or months to complete and think over the quality and value of these possible improvements and of course I will wait for the release of VIPro2 before I will send that information to you. Therefore I would really like to know which person is best to contact via e-mail?

Thank you in advance

Torsten

Just to be sure that it is really the latency setting that cause your problem, you could try to run the EMU0404 with a generic driver like ASIO4ALL and select the preferred latency values there. ASIO4ALL is freely available on the Web.

Well thanks a lot for that hint. ASIO4ALL works perfectly in Cubase with my EMU-Soundcard and the convolution reverb. In conclusion the problem were that trashy EMU-driver. From now on I'm going to use ASIO4ALL. ;-)

Again thank you for your support.

11.Vienna Imperial - Convolution Reverb 11/5/2011 1:38:13 PM

Well as I have promised I want to give a short feedback concerning your proposals to get the vienna imperial work correctly.

Thank you for your advice to use latency settings with powers of 2. This works great for standalone version of vienna imperial.

Unfortunately this doesn't work in Cubase LE because there I can't choose the latency of vienna imperial engine manually but have to use the default settings of my internal EMU0404 Soundcard. So I either have to accept that the convolution reverb feature doesn't work in cubase with my computer configuration or you perhaps could implement the feature to select the latency manually even when using vienna imperial as a VST-plugin (I don't know if it is possible for a plugin to have seperate latency settings other than the latency of the entire host program)?

Thank you for your great support and congratulations for having created such an awesome instrument like vienna imperial.

Best,

Torsten

The latency setting you mentioned above (88 / 880) seem to be somewhat odd. Do you have the option to choose powers of 2 (i.e. 64, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 ...)? I seem to remember that our convolution engine likes to see numbers like that.

I am currently not at home anymore. Next week I'll give it a try to select latency settings as you mentioned above.

Afterwards I'm going to post a short feedback.

Thank you in advance.

13.Can't pay via Paypal? 10/28/2011 8:02:51 PM

Hi Stefan,

thank you for your answer. Now it is clear why it wasn't possible for me to select Paypal while trying to buy a dvd product.

By the way I had found an online-shop which allowed me to use Paypal so I won't have any trouble anymore.

Best regards,

Torsten

Which host are you using to host Vienna Imperial, and what are your buffer settings?

I am just trying to get the standalone version working. Therefore I don't know where to find some buffer settings. Could that be the same like latency in preferences?

Latency as described above. I adjusted the parameters exactly as shown in the instruction video of vienna imperial but there is definitely no convolution reverb sound on the piano samples. Nevertheless the algorithmic reverb works correctly.

Thanks for your help.

15.Vienna Imperial - Convolution Reverb 10/28/2011 12:39:28 PM

Hi Paul,

Paul wrote:

Yes that is true. And as mentioned above the algorithmic reverb options do work perfectly.

Paul wrote:

Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 (3 GHz), 3,62 Gb RAM

Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3

Well...the instruments perform best on latency 20 ms/880 samples but I have also tried to use 88 samples (which made no difference in reverb sound). By the way the performance is not the problem. If I select one of the halls of convolution reverb, there is really no reverb sound on the piano samples. Even the smallest hall of algorithmic mode provides more reverb sound.

Kind regards,

Torsten

16.Vienna Imperial - Convolution Reverb 10/28/2011 10:39:45 AM

As it can be read on the product pages Vienna Imperial includes the Convolution reverb with 3 halls of Vienna Konzerthaus:

"Convolution reverb featuring three halls of the famous Vienna Konzerthaus"

Well...I really have no idea how to get the convolution reverb working.

Of course I can select the three halls in the advanced view but when I adjust the reverb amount even to the highest possible setting there is no reverb on the piano sound.

After the installation of the newest version of vienna imperial player, 4 halls in different sizes were added to the reverb menu and seem to work properly. In contrary the "original" 3 halls of Vienna Konzerthaus now have a tag "Convolution" after their preset name and still don't work.

Is it possible that these 3 "original" halls are just a kind of preset meant to be used in convolution reverb of vienna suite?

Do I have to purchase vienna suite to get the convolution reverb working in vienna imperial?

Do I have to download vienna suite demo to have an unlimited access to these 3 halls?

Thanks in advance

Torsten

17.Can't pay via Paypal? 10/25/2011 4:58:03 PM

Dear VSL-Team,

I tried to purchase some DVD products to take advantage of student discount when I encountered some problems concerning payment.

Is it possible that you can't use Paypal for payment anymore?

Weeks ago I already ordered some software products which I could pay using Paypal.

Thanks in advance.

18.Comparison: Download Instruments and DVD Collections 10/12/2011 10:40:18 AM

Hello Paul,

Thanks a lot for your support!

Paul wrote:
As we are still recording, there will always be new instruments added. But I believe you´re talking about the string instruments.

I wasn't really talking about string instruments at all. I thought about download instruments like Harpsichord (from Special Keyboards) as well as some Mallets (from Percussion). That instruments in particular would be very interesting to me since I don't need the entire instrument collection included on these DVD products (which would cost me a lot of money). I don't know how much time it would take to release such a single instrument download but I'd really appreciate that! Wink

Best,

Torsten

19.Comparison: Download Instruments and DVD Collections 10/7/2011 6:57:00 AM

Thank you, that helped a lot!

Only a few short questions are still left:

Am I right that extended versions of download instruments just add more articulations to standard version? This would mean that there is no enhancement in velocity layers of standard version patches, correct?

Will there be more single download instruments from some dvd instruments in the future?

Kind regards.

Torsten

20.Comparison: Download Instruments and DVD Collections 10/6/2011 5:32:26 PM

Hello Everybody!

I was just wondering if there is any difference between the full version (standard + extended) of a single download instrument (e.g. Flute 1) and the same instrument included in full version of a DVD collection (e.g. Woodwinds I)?

On the website you can just read the following:

"By adding the corresponding Extended Library, all Single Instrument Downloads become full-fledged Vienna Instruments, offering the complete articulations on par with the ones of the big DVD Collections Woodwinds I, Woodwinds II and Special Woodwinds"

Does that mean there is NO difference? Perhaps differences could be reduced velocity layers (samples), articulations etc. ?

(By the way, do dvd collections really have often more velocity layers than special edition?)

If there is really NO difference between both, is it the same for brass, strings and other instruments?

Thank you in advance.

Musically

Torsten
