1.Synchronized Dimension Brass unstable 11/4/2018 3:20:12 PM

With Synchron percussion and strings is ok.
The Synchron player is up to date.
Does anyone have the same problem?

I had the same issue with this product in combination with VEP, Cantabile and Cubase. Also, when I changed the settings of the Dim. Controller A to (e.g.) 80 plus the x-fade vel. to 1 both sliders were still moving in parallel motion, following the CC1 values apparently. This was before the crashing of course.

I'll send my crashdumps asap.

2.Synchron Strings Challenge 8/3/2018 11:09:30 AM

Hi Belkina,
I just sent you a PM....

3.SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings: More demos please 7/27/2018 1:00:42 PM

Thanks Fatis, I agree with you.

Furthermore: in all my great respect and huge admiration for Jay Bacal, who usually really does magical things in his mockups, I was a bit disappointed with the outcome of his Waltz here as demo.I didn't like the sound very much tbh.

So at the moment I am working on my own version of the Tchaikovsky Waltz from the Serenade with the 2.0 Chamber Strings. As far a I can see at the moment there is room for improvement when it comes down to really expressive playing if these strings are layered, with the utmost care, with Swam strings. These are very difficult to get right on their own, but in this situation it can be a welcome addition. When ready  I´ll have it for some time on my HD for further customizing, I´ll let you know the result here.

After all it is very hard to compete with the real performances I heard on Spotify of this lovely work, I know.

4.SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings: More demos please 7/26/2018 11:46:05 AM

Herewith some user demo's with the new Synchronizd Chamber Strings, also in comparison with the old version and the new Synchron Strings as well. Source used: a fragment from "South by SouthWest", composed by Stephen Barton, who wrote a lot for film. This is a very energetic piece for string ensemble, written at the time for DVZ, Audio Impressions.

I tried to give some strenght to the more raw side of this piece, so no feathering spiccato, but bows into the strings: there is a lot of ff marcato indicating in the score.

Using the three libraries, I would say: there is soundwise a difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 version of these chamber ensembles: 2.0 is some more polished and suffers less from a thin and bit nasal sound that in some cases the 1.0 version could demonstrate.

BTW: I turned the reverb off in the 2.0 version and lowered the IR settings to about 11-12%. Furthermore a touch of dynamical EQ, again in the violins. Added tail: some RC48, which I love for orchestral mockups.

I all cases I used some help from the LASS ER's from Numerical sound to sweeten a bit the first violins. Despite this help I must say that moreover the Synchron violins still give me a sort of unpleasant listening experience. What lacks is basically a convincing, musical vibrato and legato imo. Shorts do the job OK, but if you listen carefully to the isolated violins in example A, sixth track, you'll hear what I described. It is really a pity that these strings have so many disappointing issues in the violins a.o..

On the contrary for me: both chamber libs are more convincing in most cases in this particular work, and guess what: the combination of Chamber Strings 1.0 and (!) 2.0 gave a surprisingly good result! Chamber 2.0 and SyS is quite OK for me, but 2.0 doesn't exactly compensate all issues of the Sys imo. I would have hoped for a Synchron strings product with the same musical (input and ) output as in the products they made in the past, or even much better and lively. Enough talking now, I hope you'll enjoy these tracks here.

Here two short fragments: the beginning of the piece and secondly a small legato part in the violins. Order of appearance: Chamber Sy_ized (2.0) - Chamber 1.0 - SyS
Soundcloud #1

Some more of this work, the first half, order of appearance: Chamber Sy_ized (2.0) - Chamber 1.0 - SyS - Chamber 2.0 + 1.0 - Chamber 2.0 + SyS
On Soundcloud #2

5.Sheltering Sky Theme of Riuichi Sakamoto for SyS 7/13/2018 11:57:53 AM

This reply is rather condescending and moreover very disrespectful towards the people at VSL who made this product. I can live with most comments on my productions and posts after some years here and there on the internet, but this one is just a no-go. Is this the only possible contribution you're capable of?

6.Sheltering Sky Theme of Riuichi Sakamoto for SyS 7/6/2018 3:44:27 PM

Hi,

Herewith a very expressive piece of Sakamoto, rendered with SyS (full). Just to find out if the theme and the strings would meet somewhere. I know, no portamento and not a very exposed vibrato. However, there are other ways to get expression out of these strings. Not all string sections use vibratissimo.

Working with the player was not any problem for me. I hope there will be a sort of humisation feature in a next version however.

7.New user demo cello2 11/6/2016 1:30:25 PM

[edited 29-11-2016: new version]

New demo here for the cello in a very exposed setting: cello and piano in Gounod's Ave Maria.
Placement and verb: SPAT, no further EQ inplemented. It is what it is. Piano: Garritan Steinway.

8.Dimension Strings I+II - normal doubled with mute 3/2/2016 7:46:15 PM

Any feedback from the OP would be appreciated very much.

9.Dimension Strings I+II - normal doubled with mute 2/19/2016 12:22:30 PM

You'll find the requested tracks here.
It concerns the three last tracks in the Vertigo section: non edited, just reverbed (SPAT). At your service!

11.real sordino or fx-sordino? 1/12/2016 9:52:40 AM

You're maybe right, but I tried to imitate the somewhat muffled, 60's studio sound of the original sound track version as prestented on YouTube. At the time of that mockup I didn't have the real sordino DS yet, so I wasn't able to compare them exactly. The real DS has definitely the beautiful silver and transparent sound sordino strings should have imo. The same for the sordino Chamber strings.
So the match was a bit different than one between different libraires at first hand.

For those who are interested: I started with a LASS (!) timbral sordino impulse from Numerical Sounds. Implemented in the VSL Convol plugin. Added some slight dynamic EQ (TB-Fix from Toneboosters), that's about it.
Verb and placement: SPAT.

12.real sordino or fx-sordino? 1/11/2016 7:19:07 PM

Hi,

Herewith a new page on my blog dedicated to a nice experiment with a kind of fake sordino. As a result of a thread on another forum about the new sordino Dimension Strings I started fiddling around with comparing the 'real DS sordino' version with the non-muted Dimension Strings in a small chain of plugins to find out if I could get some result in achieving a convincing sordino sound with only some fx.

After hearing the original version (sordino) of Scene d'Amour from the score of Vertigo, written by Bernard Herrmann, I decided to make several tracks in an intimate chamber/studio setting based on the first part of this beautiful theme.

So you'll find

  1. Dimension Strings sordino with a VSL solo violin added (the latter with the sordino fx)
  2. Dimension Strings (non sordino) with a VSL solo violin added: no sordino fx, only a little EQ implemented
  3. Dimension Strings  (non sordino) with a VSL solo violin added: this time with the fx chain
  4. VSL Chamber sordino , with the solo violin added in the fx-version, only a little EQ implemented

Enjoy! And let me know your opnions about this of course.

13.Dimension Strings II L2 samples? 1/7/2016 1:33:27 PM

Correct, at least not yet. But will there be any chance of an extended sordino library in due time? It sounds great, but there are some important patches missing (portamento etc.). So come on you folks at VSL: when can we expect the addendum?
Best
Erik

14.DS - I probably never heard the "Dimension" 9/9/2014 12:02:03 PM

Hi Beat,

Just dropping by. After all these rather heavy posts just a very neutral (as possible) contribution: I have made a test with many elements of your request involved. No further commenting on this page, I prefer to leave this to other people as usual.
As simple as that, to fulfil your wishes.

Please follow this link to my blog and enjoy the comparison between 16 (!) tracks. There is more to come (a somewhat faster second half of the theme), so stay tuned.

And no, not any MIR here, again: at your service Beat :)

[EDIT: added Chamber Strings]

Best,

Erik

15.Paganini - Capriccio no.1 3/16/2014 4:27:06 PM

Raymond,

Which patch(-es) did you use? What specific part of the result does bother you? The possible lack of sautillé effect, the too perfect tuning? The too homogenous attack maybe?

Sorry for all those questions, just curious to find out.....

PS Dutch btw?

rhd1607,

You might find this comparison interesting.....(Dimensons Brass and HB involved)

17.Three new MIRx demo's with VSL string libraires 9/27/2013 1:06:07 PM

To inform you.

I have made three new versions of South by Southwest, a moderately modern, very nice and energetic piece by Stephen Barton (DVZ-Strings website). This piece requires everything from a decent library: smooth legato, agressive staccato, leggiero spiccato, high speed runs, repetited notes, tremolo etc.. Shortly: it is comparable with many classical pieces in the need for high quality patches and software.

Herewith three new demo's of VSL's MIRx plugin. Apart form very slight EQ'ing (with Toneboosters' TB-Fix) just the raw versions. I used extended versions of Appassionata, Orchestra and Chamber Strings combined with every time the same DS surplus.

18.Dimension Cellos Audio Demos 6/27/2013 5:50:13 PM

Herewith a very short user demo of the Dimension Cellos. I used the Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 for voice and eight celli of Heitor Villa-Lobos, the 8 celli are 'managed' at four desks, all desks a2 or div). I left out the solo soprano voice of course (don't ask me to sing in please).

I used only the 6 solo players; celli 1 and 2 also for celli 7 and 8.

Only a small snapshot with two fragments, the start and middle part.

0:00 First the beginning of the piece with all players
0:55 same fragment as above (a bit smaller), but now dedicated to only the pizzicato players (they sound so great)
1:26 the molto espressivo & f/ff middle) part.

This new product is a lust to work with, one of the best VSL products so far imo. It would be thrilling to do the whole piece, but, man, I have to make a living also.........

19.Waltzing Under the Stars (3 different MIR halls) 5/17/2013 5:58:05 PM

Hi Guy,

The next remarkable piece from your hand. Guy, you never stop writing such beautiful music, fortunately! Thanks for sharing this with us.

I must admit, that I personally prefer the NRF Hall, strangely enough maybe, since I feel it is written in the atmosphere of movies I have seen in my youth. I guess in that period there wasn't much overdone reverb at all, so I just like this version so much. I regard this piece as very intimate obviously.

And, I think that that this specific MIR venue is one of the best ever made.........

20.Dimension Strings 9/29/2012 4:08:30 PM

Hi iscorefilm (and possibly many others),

At your service.....please visit this blog dedicated to DS. See under: South by South-West.
Enjoy!

21.User demo's of Dimension Strings 9/29/2012 4:05:21 PM

Hi,

I just have made some new demo's with the 8 separate violins of Dimension Strings, combined with other products. I have used a fragment of 'South by South West', composed by Stephen Barton for DVZ strings; this work is offered as midi file on their site to compare their version with your own versions. Please note that this piece requires divisi strings: only with the Dimension Strings tracks themselves you can enjoy this feature. You can listen at:

All tracks: instruments positioned with VirtualSoundStage, verb: VSL- HybridVerb (Berlin Stage)

1. DS vlns 1 (8 players): divisi a/b

2. VSL chambers vlns (1)

3. DS vlns 1 (2 players) + VSL chambers vlns (1)

4. VSL orchestra vlns (1)

5. DS vlns 1 (4 players) - VSL orchestra vlns (1)

6  VSL appassionata vlns (1)

7. DS vlns 1 (4 players) + VSL appassionata vlns (1)

Full version of this work:

8. Session Strings Pro vlns (2) - vla- vlc - cb (divisi with nki 1 and 2)

9. DS vlns 1 - Session Strings Pro vlns (2) - vla- vlc - cb (divisi with nki 1 and 2), Violins 1 SSP replaced with DS

To give you even a better chance getting to know these patches I have included a rar file of all relevant sections: please note: as wave file. All dry, no verb, no Q or whatever. So you will be able to mix them yourself in your own DAW, with your own preferences. Also to prevent discussions about too much verb, not enough verb, no comping, too much comping, "what the hell did you do with the EQ" etc. I dediced to offer everything as raw as possible.

Only the postioning is based on the original files (again: with VirtualSoundStage, just because it is very affordable). I hope that this won't frustrate too much btw. Also you will find the other sections than violins 1 as only one wave file (the dowload size would be way too high). Of course all violins 1 sections are included (chamber/orchestra/appasionata)as special files to fulfil your possible needs to make your comparisons even more relevant.

So you will find here to download a 121 Mb (packed) rar file with:

1.  DS vlns 1 (2 players)

2.  DS vlns 1 (4 players)

3.  DS vlns 1 (8 players)

4.  VSL chambers: vlns1

5.  VSL chambers: vlns2 - vla - vlc  - cb

6.  VSL orchestra: vlns1

7.  VSL orchestra: vlns2 - vla - vlc  - cb

8.  VSL appassionata: vlns1

9.  VSL appassionata: vlns2 - vla - vlc  - cb

10. Session Strings Pro vlns1

11. Session Strings Pro: vlns2 - vla - vlc  - cb

I hope that this will inform you the best possible way about this new remarkable product.

22.User demo's of Dimension Strings 9/28/2012 3:45:14 PM

Hi,

To inform you: I have made some additional short and moreover technical examples of what you can do with Dimension Strings. There is certainly more to come in due course: also DS combined with other products (of course also VSL will be featured).

I thought that it might be relevant before you decide to buy (or not) or simply just want to know more about it, all this presented quite humbly next to the two very informative video demo's of this wonderful product. You can find it here (also accessible for iPad owners).

23.Updated versions of Adventure Theme of Mike Verta - Dimension brass 9/11/2012 9:45:55 AM

Hi,

I have uploaded three different (verb) versions of this energetic piece of Mike Verta for brass instruments. It was made with Dimension Brass exclusively (afac the brass parts).

Comments are very appreciated!

Erik

24.W.A.MOZART - REQUIEM K 626 - Dies Irae 9/3/2012 5:32:14 PM

Try these ones (as made by and added by Theo Vosse on the virtual-instrumentation.com database):

Bach, O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden
Mozart, Ave Verum

Enjoy!

25.Share your VSL based mockups or your own works with others! Add your records to the database of... 7/19/2012 9:47:11 PM

It must have been a thread here by a certain William (followed by positive posts) that convinced to create such a platform eventually, I had something in mind quite some time to bring people and virtual music together. And I had already a nice cgi database script on my HD (although I am certainly not a script writer myself) that had sufficient possibilities to find out if it was relevant for this goal anyway. It turned out to be OK, I thought. Plus enough experience to setup a site with not too much effort.

So it was you actually your idea that inspired me to develop my own ideas about this further, although the result is maybe not fully the way you had in mind. That is not so strange, because we didn't communicate seriously in advance about basic issues, I just did it as a solo player.
