1.MIDI Assign Not Working In Logic (Vienna Instruments) 9/2/2020 7:15:25 PM
I am having no success Right-Clicking a destination parameter and assigning it to a fader or a knob with my controller (Akai MPK88). I am able to do it in the Stand Alone version; however, I have no success within Logic 10.5. I have an iMac with 3.7 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9, and 64 GB RAM.
I tried it both within the Vienna Ensemble Player 6 and just instantiating a VI alone with no success. It simply won't allow me to assign one of the controller's faders to Velocity X-Fade. It will allow me to assign the pitch modulation wheel which is odd. If Ivan assign the PM wheel to any parameter, I should be able to assign a fader or knob, right? This problem only happens in Logic Pro.

Any ideas as to what this could be? I need help fast.
2.iMac as a VE Pro slave machine? 7/25/2010 3:34:30 AM

Great question.  I'd like to know the answer to it as well.

3.Cell XF Problem. 1/30/2007 6:16:06 AM
Is there anyone that has experienced this with the VI? The Cell XF simply will not follow my recorded fader moves during playback; however, it will work if I am just fiddling around with it in real time. I already have other tracks with Cell XF moves recorded and they play back just fine.

Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated. Everything else works just fine. I am using Logic with a G5 dual 2.0 Ghz Mac and 5GB RAM.
4.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 11:29:39 PM
I'm getting ahead of myself. I still have the audio routing issue. Digi's 192 I/O is connected to my main DAW and Apogee's Rosetta 200 connected to my Slave. For now, I have both connected to an analog mixer (Mackie Onyx 1640) so I monitoring is no problem; I mean to say, I can still work while I sus-out this bump in the road.

Any ideas how I can deal with this in an efficient way? I have every kind of connecting cable there is for these machines. Ideally, I'd like to stay digital, and if I can rig up a clever system, all the better.

Thanks for your suggestions.
5.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 11:19:24 PM
Nick, I got it. All I have to do is Option-Click each output on the Physical Input object (Click & Ports) and assign them to the respective audio instrument sequentially. I am now ready to write some music. Finally. Big Smile

Thanks all for responding. Now if I can just finish this film.
6.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 8:37:36 PM
I am using Logic in the DAW and Logic in the slave.
7.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 8:14:28 PM
Well, not so fast fellas. VI's are loaded and ready to go, but, . . . I have 2 problems.

The first: The slave is receiving MIDI from the DAW, and I can record just fine; however, no matter what track I move to in the DAW using a MolCp III port, I only get the sound of the currently highlighted track in the Slave. In fact, any track I record on or highlight, in the DAW using a MolCp III port, will only play the currently highlighted track in the Slave.

Note: On the DAW, I created instruments in the Environment (Instruments Page)and routed their output ports to corresponding MolCp III ports sequentially. On the slave, these ports are not available for *audio instruments*, nor MIDI instruments.

I tried creating a couple of instruments on the Click & Ports page but the MolCpIII ports did not show up as an option. I did see them in the *Physical Input* object, but no place else.

How do I get 1 port, 1 instrument from DAW to Slave?

The second is: How do get the audio from my slave into my DAW in a, more stream lined way? On my DAW I have Digi's 192 I/O and on my slave I have an Apogee Rosetta 200 w/an X-FireWire Card. Digi's HW does not see the Optical or S/PDIF that I am sending to it, and it will not accept word clock from the Apogee. I'd like to keep everything digital.

That's it. Confused

Thanks Nick, I'm on it. Cool

By the way, . . . Love the magazine. Not a subscriber yet, but I've been buying them off the stands.

Eurica! Simple solution. Just rebooted everything and everything is prefect. When in doubt, . . . reboot. Cool

Do you have any filters on them?

What do you mean? I am using a D-Link DGS-2205 Gigabit Switch with Cat5e cables. I do have a router but it is not in the direct path of either Mac.
11.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 2:57:27 AM
Nick, It is the new version 3.0.1, . . . I just don't get it, it should show up in Logic. In Audio MIDI Setup, only 1 MIDI device shows up called "MolCp III Driver" and it has the MIDI ports 11-28. That's it.

I know what you are saying about the Environment window is correct, but I just spent the day trying to sync my machines via Ethernet using Audio MIDI Setup and Logic went crazy. I spent the whole day trying to get the right configuration in Logic's Environment. I'm almost over it now though. Cool

Interesting. The outputs 11-28 are activated, but 31-88 won't activate for some reason. They are configured exactly like the one's that work.

Wow. It's never easy. Any suggestions?
15.MIDIoverLAN & Logic? 11/1/2006 12:51:56 AM
Sorry for this one guys. I have the VI's distributed between 2 Macs with Logic Pro 7.2.3 loaded on them, both synced via MIDIoverLAN, and everything is working just fine. My question is this: I activated 40 Ports however, Logic only shows a total of 16. Is that the limit in Logic using this setup, or do I have to deal with Logic's dreaded Environment to get more port options?

If so, please be specific in outlining what I must do. Thanks for responding.
16.How to Set Up a LAN with Vienna Instrument? 10/25/2006 6:15:47 PM
I was speaking of desktop Macs. Thanks, you guys just stopped/saved me from spending a lot of $$$. Cool
17.How to Set Up a LAN with Vienna Instrument? 10/25/2006 2:04:56 AM
Wouldn't the ultimate system for the VI's be one that utilized Fiber Channel? Have the samples on a dedicated server (Xserve) using 3-3GHz Mac Pros connected via Gigabit Ethernet on a LAN. I think all doubt about throughput would be solved; and you would have one of the most powerful, kick a%$ work stations on the planet.

19.Clicks and Pops: HELP! 10/11/2006 5:53:20 AM
Wow! Thanks Maya and dfhage. I was beginning to think of myself as a complete idiot for not finding a way to make it work. Now I can save face with, well, . . .myself.

I appreciate the info.
Peace,

20.VI Using 2 Macs 10/9/2006 2:14:27 PM
I am looking for the best way to use the VI Collection on 2 Macs.

1. 2.0 GHz Dual Processors (Logic already loaded) Four 250 GB SATA HD's
connected

2. Mac Pro 3.0 (Logic already loaded) Four 500 GB internal SATA HD's

Do I need 2 monitors, one for each computer?

Should I ditch one of the Logic's and use Plogue Bidule on one of the machines?

Do I connect the computers via Ethernet or MIDI, or both?

I am looking for an effective solution, after reading a number of posts on this forum and others. I have even read the (Studio Farms) article in the April/May 2006 edition of "Virtual Instruments" and still, I ask these questions, as I do not have a server, nor do I use PC's. I will be using Logic in my host DAW, and I want to use the second Mac in the most effective way; weather it be hosting a number of VI's or that a much more.

I need suggestions and perhaps some definitive guidance.

Peace,
GF

I just got the HD's. They were formatted a couple of weeks ago.

Sapkiller,

That was tried and still the same problem. Only when VI's are playing.
23.Clicks and Pops: HELP! 10/8/2006 1:43:17 PM
What's going on? I just posted a reply and it did not come up. Anyway, thanks for responding Matt.

When I say slave, I mean synchronize machines or computers using software (Logic, Pro Tools, Digital Performer, . . .) You must define a set of parameters within these software applications to accomplish this. It is usually done via MIDI, USB, Ethernet, . . .

Sorry to hear you had to go to such extremes. I do not think I'll have to do that. While desperately tweaking and fiddling, I found out a few things.

1. I can use digidesign hardware (192 I/O) without enabling DAE or Direct TDM in
Logic's Audio Preferences. It works just fine with Core Audio enabled; there
are no discernable clicks and pops. This is a workaround for PT users with
digi's expansion|HD chassis; because ESB is not supported.

2. When using Apogee's Rosetta 200 with the firewire card, and Core Audio, all I
get are clicks and pops when using the VI's. However, when I bounced the
track with the offending sounds, there were no clicks and pops in them upon
playback.

3. This is either a firewire problem, or my setup is jacked up. I'll do a little more
testing to find out.

I would love to use the Rosetta on the front end of Logic, but so far, I can't because of the clicks n pops when using the VI's. I am still open for suggestions.

Peace,
GF
24.Clicks and Pops: HELP! 10/8/2006 2:29:46 AM
I do not have any slaves, I am on a single G5 2.0 Ghz Dual Processor Mac. I am using Core Audio, running an Apogee Rosetta 200 with an X-Series Expansion Card (Fire Wire). The VI's are loaded onto 4 SATA hard drives connected to a Tempo-X eSATA 8 PCI card. I had no problems running everything with Pro Tools hardware (192 I/O) and DAE with Direct TDM enabled; now however, after adding an expansion chassis (digidesign expansion/HD) and the Rosetta 200, I am getting some serious clicks and pops every time I play the VI's.

I have already tried increasing the buffer size with no success. I've read other posts about the same thing (clicks and pops) but they involved G5's as slaves; I have a single machine, and I must resolve this fast.

Any ideas?
