1.Dimension Strings auto voicing (divisi) question. 2/15/2014 2:51:06 AM

mohurwitzmusic wrote:
Mmmmh...actually I don't think that this would do what you want. It wouldn't be any different than what you can do now with voicing. The problem would still exist: when one sustained note becomes two, the first note played by the full section continues to sound.

I can see that could be a problem, but that is not what I was referring to.  Let me show you the score, it's really simple.

Given the awesomeness of the Dimension line of products, I would _speculate_ that they are probably working on something like this :-)

Yes, I hope so too.  I really love Dimension Strings a lot, even I have only acquired it 3 days ago! Big Smile

2.Dimension Strings auto voicing (divisi) question. 2/14/2014 3:08:06 AM

Thanks guys for the reply and suggestions....... though honestly, I really wish if the on/off button for auto voicing could be triggered by a MIDI event, which will save a lot of effort!

EDIT : Actually I ended up loading two instances of 2-desk instead of Group 1 (Violins) for that purpose, as programming the additional cells (for quite a number of articulations) is too much of a trouble.  Which I found it ironic that, it makes the divisi function rather pointless..... Hmm

3.Dimension Strings auto voicing (divisi) question. 2/12/2014 2:20:46 PM

I would like to know if it is possible to have VI Pro to play all voices in unison if I only press a single note? (just single articulations, NOT legato).  What I mean is, let's say I have a 1 + 2-3-4 division for the Group 1 Violins (4 players).  When I play two notes together, it gets a solo violin on top with the 3 others below it no problem.  But when I only play a single note, it seems VI Pro still thinks it is the top note and plays the 1st/solo violin only.  Yet to me, it should be a unison note without divisi.

OR

Is there anyway to activate/deactivate the auto voicing via KSW or CC or any means without manually clicking the button with the mouse?

I know I can create a new cell for a particular articulation just for this purpose.  Just wonder if I can do it without so though.

Thanks in advance!

4.Feature Request: change parameter over multiple slots, cells, matrices 2/12/2014 2:34:33 AM

After I finished setup the strings template, or should I say, 80% of the strings template without basses, I can only say.... WOW!  I have only used half of the strings for each section so I don't need to bother about those transpose/placement tricks of creating 2nd violin, and it already sounds very lush and full to me! (and NO I am not doing an epic cinematic patriotic score, before anyone challenges me Cool )

It took a bit of work modifying the expression maps (using Cubase here) to suit my use too, but it totaly worths it.  Hope to see the Basses released soon!

So, the request is: can a feature like "apply change over all matrices/cells/slots" be implemented somehow? My favourite way would be by being able to select multiple cells in a matrix and affect the same parameter over all slots within that matrix. Some software does this by only showing the value of the parameter if it is equal across instances.

I second that!  I found it strange with VI Pro such a versatile and flexible software without a mass edit/mass apply/copy & paste options.  Suppose I want to customize the staccato patch, then I will need to do it all over again 7 more times for the other violins (in Dimension Strings). Hope it will be implemented in the future! Smile

6.What preload buffer size are you using 2/8/2014 10:15:23 AM

If you want to make use of the sequencer phrases a lot, you should always keep a higher pre-load cache for these collections (as the attack for certain notes is changed for tighter performance, which also takes a part of the sample start which is loaded into RAM).

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info!

Hello Paul

I would like to ask if this suggested setting is based on 3 Gb/s or 6 Gb/s speed, or it doesn't matter?

Just purchased Dimension Strings and hope I won't go insane while waiting for the download to complete! Stick out tongue

8.Kontakt 5 outputs gone wrong in VEPro build 11262? 9/1/2012 12:27:32 PM

Hi Tom,

It is working now, thank you so much!  Guess I have missed or overlooked something on my first try.

Thanks again :)

Oh BTW, I guess this should be the culprit, according to Tom?

10.Kontakt 5 outputs gone wrong in VEPro build 11262? 9/1/2012 8:58:54 AM

Hello Tom

Thanks for your suggestion and it did solve the routing problem BUT I had to start a project fresh, which seems not be a feasible solution as I already have a working template.  I know I could just start anew but consider all the FX inserts inside Kontakt and VEPro it would be a nightmare!

Hope VSL will come up with a solution, as I believe if it worked in the past, there must be a way to make it work now too.

Thanks again anyway :)
Frankie

EDIT : On the bright side, if an older build works and I have no need for the new features in the newer build, I would consider this solved! :) I still hope VSL will have some ways to solve this though in their future builds.  Thanks all!

12.Kontakt 5 outputs gone wrong in VEPro build 11262? 8/30/2012 2:56:29 AM

Dear VSL team

I tested it again today and so far I got the following findings :

13.Kontakt 5 outputs gone wrong in VEPro build 11262? 8/29/2012 6:46:53 PM

Well, thanks for the reply, at least I know I am not alone!

I tried reassigning the in/out-puts as well but they got so random that I decided to go back to an older build instead.

14.Kontakt 5 outputs gone wrong in VEPro build 11262? 8/29/2012 6:20:49 PM

Hello,

Just wonder if anyone encountering this as well.  Let's say I have 4 pairs of stereo outputs in K5 (K5O1 to K5O4) and 4 input channels in VEpro (VEPin1 to VEPin4), and it has been routed as K5O1 > VEPin1, K5O2 > VEPin2, and so on.  After installing build 11262 today and loading up my usual template, I found the routings of the outputs of K5 do not go to the correct inputs in VEpro, let's say it becomes :

K5O1 > VEPin1
K5O2 > VEPin3
K5O3 > VEPin3 and(!!) VEPin4
K5O4 > no sound

Sorry I cannot provide more info nor do any troubleshootings for the moment as I need to start a new project tomorrow so I already installed back an older build, which is working correctly again.  I am just curious if anyone else encounters this or not.  Or perhaps it's my bad luck? Crying

Cheers,
Frankie

15.Vienna Key problem (VEPRO) 11/5/2010 9:10:27 PM

Dear Paul

Of course there are licenses on every key.  In fact it has been running fine when I first started using VEPRO (with 3 PC's though).  I really have no idea on when this started since one of the keys has zero start now (PC), and this Mac has like 1 or 2 starts now.

This happens randomly though.  Today it didn't give me any warning of demo start almost runs out.  Sorry I couldnt provide more info or do some more tests as I am really on a tight schedule.   All I can conclude is..... this problem already gone away on my PC after I installed the latest LCC software and updated the license in the LCC.  But not solved the problem on Mac.  I haven't tried swapping the two keys though, should I try?

Thanks

Frankie

PS I do have an extra key with all demo starts unused.  So I still have a workaround in case this key's demo runs out.  ANyway if this problem persists I will sure do some more testing / updating / troubleshooting (and whatever Big Smile ) after I finished my current project.

16.Vienna Key problem (VEPRO) 11/3/2010 6:12:32 AM

Dear all, recently i get a warning it's running in demo mode on both of my machines (see my sig for specs).  So I tried reinstalling the LCC as well as updating the license database.  This fixed the problem on PC but not on the Mac.  Now it has like 1 or 2 tries left, is there anything I can do?  I do have a spare (and unused key) but I need to have this fixed eventually.

Anyway, LCC is the most updated, VEPRO is only v4.1.6853.  Sorry I am not gonna update VEPRO to do more testing coz I am in the middle of a big project

Thanks

Frankie

[EDIT] seems my sig was not show.....

17.VE Pro standalone, slight pops and crackles 2/23/2010 7:38:14 PM

 Hi Paul,

Yes all instances of VE Pro are set to default, so I assume they are the same then?  (And I am talking about the standalone too).

Anyway, I found out the culprit is Sonar again.  As long as Sonar is not running, VE Pro 64 & 32-bit are running fine side by side in standalone with crystal clear audio output.  I guess there must be something wrong in the audio setting (audio engine) in Sonar which I have yet to learn and discover.

Thanks a lot anyway!

Frankie

18.VE Pro standalone, slight pops and crackles 2/20/2010 7:41:23 PM

I have solved this by setting the Multiprocessor support to OFF in Sonar, leaving only VE Pro (and Kontakt) running with multi-core support.

Another question, is it supposed NOT to run both the x86 and x64 standalone together?  I am getting quite serious crackles if so.  'Course it's fine when I am only running either of the standalone.

Thanks,

Frankie

19.VE Pro standalone, slight pops and crackles 2/19/2010 10:39:35 AM

 Hi all

I have been using VE Pro (as a plugin) for over a month with stable and good results.  Recently I am attempting to run some bigger projects with VE Pro running as a standalone (and local) application, so as to avoid the horrendous long save time of Sonar Stick out tongue.  But then there are some occasional pops and crackles, even when there is one instruments loaded, or just playing a long sustained note.  It's not serious, exactly like what when you are playing a 80's vinyl record... but it's just there.  I am not sure where to troubleshoot, probably it's some stupid mistakes I made in the setup, though I have been running it very smoothly as a plugin.

Here is my setup(s) :

And BTW I am only running VE Pro as a local mixing host (on one computer that is), so the network feature isn't used.

Computer : Dell Precision 3500 Xeon Quad-core 2.66GHz with HT enabled, 12GB RAM, MOTU 828mk3 FW audio interface, Windows 7 x64 Professional and Sonar 8 (x64), both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of VE Pro have been used (and tested) in both scenarios.

Scenario 1 (running as a plugin where there is ZERO problem!) - Buffer size in 828mk3 and Sonar both = 256, VE Pro buffer = 1.  Have Kontakt 4, G-player, WIVI and the VSL Soprano Choir loading in 5 instances of VE Pro (server).  Biggest template so far is only 5GB RAM but it's running very very smoothly, as I have mentioned.

Scenario 2 (running as a standalone application) - Using LoopBe30 to connect between Sonar and VE Pro.  Have tried changing buffer size (in all of the audio interface, Sonar as well as VE Pro standalone) to up to 1024 but that doesn't seem to change anything.  Tried both when audio out is lightpipe'd back to Sonar, or sending directly to main analog out, same result.  Now this is when even when I load one instrument, say Sop Choir sustain, and while playing that sustain note there are slight and occasional pops and crackles.  So probably it shouldn't be a polyphony, CPU load problem, I suppose?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Frankie

20.4881 - irregular behaviour - rolled back to 4686 2/17/2010 4:54:57 PM

I am not sure if this is related... am on PC, Win7 64-bit, same build (4881).

Whenever I try load up the VE Pro server after the computer boots up, it won't load until I double click the icon once again.  Checking the task manager, the first "loading up" actually loaded up the vsldaemon.exe into memory, without loading up the real VE Pro server.  Apart from this I encounter no more problem regarding loading up (or shall I say re-loading up) or quitting the program.

Of course this only happens when the computer first boots up (when vsldaemon.exe isn't residing in memory).

21.VE Pro preserved instance strange behaviour (possible glitch?) 1/26/2010 12:08:48 PM

Hello, I am encountering a strange behaviour in VE Pro (I am using the newest public beta version, with Sonar 8, Windows 7 Ultimate x64).

If a preserved instance name contains parenthesis, like "Kontakt (strings)", without quotes of course, it won't be loaded when I connect to it on a new project.  But rather, it creates a new blank instance with the name without the closing parenthesis, "Kontakt (strings", without quotes.  Sure it isn't a problem at all I can just stay away from names containing parenthesis, but just thinking I should let you guys know too. WinkCheers,

Frankie

23.[SOLVED] License download problem (VE Pro) 1/2/2010 5:12:25 PM

Hi Paul, yeah I was trying that too and now one of the keys is recovered, still trying to fix the last key as the recovery process failed (probably due to busy server too)  Hope it would be resolved soon.

Thanks,

Frankie

24.[SOLVED] License download problem (VE Pro) 1/2/2010 4:38:39 PM

Hello, i am encountering a problem in downloading the 2nd and 3rd licenses for the VE Pro (the 1st and Epic Orchestra were fine).  It said something like using the master server instead of slave server, and the download failed.  And when I tried it again it said the activation code can only be used once and contact the software vendor. The eLicenser control software should be the most updated one as I just downloaded and installed a couple of days ago.

Any help would be appreciated, or should I email tech support instead?

Thanks,
Frankie

25.Mozart mock-up 7/11/2006 6:01:38 PM

Are there any ? or is it just a myth ?

Well, this discussion can lead to a 100000-word research thesis! [Indifferent]

All I can say about the difference between western and oriental (ethnic) music philosophies is, western (European-rooted) music is meant to be "performed", to entertain and please the emperors/nobles, etc. In order to achieve this you gotta to develop a competent skill and personal style to survive.

Whereas in ancient China, playing music is more of a self-entertainment like the gu-qing and zheng music. They just couldn't care less if people like their music as long as they are enjoying it themselves. That's why there wasn't any kind of "music revolution" to make music more appealing to the general public. Because of this, there wasn't any heroic figure like Bach who actually "rationalized" music and developed a whole set of theory and such. Of course, there were consort style ensembles in ancient China to amuse the emperors... but well, they are actually eyeing on the palace maids' sexy dance instead of the music! Devil

Disclaimer! Yes my point of view is quite generalized really, feel free to disagree with me! Stick out tongue I can quote some exceptions already... I am sure Schoenberg and Cage didn't care about if their music pleases the audience. While there is a more contemporary Chinese music, the "Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto" which is meant to please the genereal public with lovely and partly western style of writing/orchestration.

If Bach was born in China, the global music history will be a different story I am sure!

Cheers,
Frankie
