But in my opinion, the slur legato is acceptable.  Actually, I think the "long notes soft" is not true choice.

Well done, very nice feature!

Synchron Strings I Full lies in using with mixing mics I think.

By doing so, I can safely tell you that the sound almost reaches Bigger-than-life.

Very well done! , but I was disappointed by the quality of Synchron Strings's short patches. There is no true harsh repetition or Staccato/Spiccato exposed effect like other libraries such as Berlin Strings or Spitfire Symphonic Strings that would be very useful to carry out a brutal attack in short articulations.

Short articulations which provided by other vendors:

Spiccatissimo
Spiccato
Spiccato Exposed  (* would be usefull in this case..! )
Staccato
Staccato Exposed
(* would be usefull in this case..! )
Staccato Bold
Martele FFF
Portato Short
Portato Long
Repetitions slow/fast
Blurred Spiccato
Blurred Staccato
Blurred Portato

4.[explained] Synchron Strings Expression (cc11): does it kill release? ooops.... 1/5/2018 7:01:21 PM

I also have the crossfade sensitivity of all my VSL libraries set to 126 (nearly silence on dynamic CC down). It's right, on decrescendo the room is going down with the samples while in real world the room tail fades later than the instruments. But Synchron Strings do very smooth fades (probably caused by the lot of layers). It's much smoother than in compareable room recorded libraries. And at the end you will add a nice Lexicon tail anyway. This is done in mixes of acoustic recordings as well and isn't really audible but glues together everything. Doesn't need to be wet and washy. Just a tasteful shimmer on top. And it smoothes out all fades. Actually Synchron Strings does the best CC driven 'to silence' fades I heard up to now. Dry libraries included.

Not at all... try it again on Sustain patch and you will get the wrong result with Sustain patch by using of expression.

Very well done.

I think so that replacment of portamento with slurred legato is not a good idea. Although most legato technique is required for slurred performance, but no body will be satisfied with slurred legato without any portamento technique..!

Aftermore, I think that at this point a few articulations are missing such as espressivo legato, staccato, marcato and spiccato exposed as well as sul-pont. and sul-tasto..!!!

Short note attacks, more articulations, better sound... these things were what drove me to getting some of the libraries you mentioned. I've had enough experience working in software support, UI, product magement, UX, consulting, and even some development (all of which I didn't want to have to learn) that I now have an involuntary quiet chuckle when I hear "take user feedback seriously". This "not listening" thing is a disease. It spreads.

You hit a nerve. lol

As for your articulation list, I couldn't agree more. Synchron has great value without them to be sure. And who knows, we may see them in SS2. But it goes without saying that most everyone would love one library to rule them all. Consistent ensemble samples, playing techniques, and template architecture would make life a lot easier. And if I could have my samples anywhere, I'd have them in VI-Pro by a long shot. I trust Synchron Player will likely live up to the same expectations. I just hope Martin developed it. Years ago I spoke with him and the guy just gets it... completely.

Actually, I do use other libraries such as Berlin Strings, Spitfire Audio Chamber Strings/Symphonic Strings and only reason I ever used anyone else was too much better legato script, short note attacks and huge detail sampled short/long articulations, etc. You didn't just take user feedback seriously.

Have you made decision yet on any usefull articulations as bellow ?

Just wait for Synchron-Strings II to have most of the Articulations covered. Synchron-Strings I is of course the basic set.

However it even seems to me that each of the Articulations in Synchron-Strings I has much more "under the hood" that the simple "list" of single artticulations is no longer the right reference to compare.

Hopefully in the near future 2025 or 2027, Synchron-Strings version VI probably!

Whoah!  I'm impressed.  This guy got a list of articulations from his "Beginning Orchestration" book.

Senior people are not inaccessible but you still have to do the work on Orchestration's book :) ... It's blong to the Berlin Strings as well as Spitfire Audio Chamber/Symphonic Strings.

I was rather hoping we might know a little more by now.

What worries me is the they mght suddenly turn round and say the library is released tomorrow, so you have until then to pre order it, whilst we have little or no more detail on it.

Of course it may well be that the library is being released later on November and whole raft of info ready to be  - but I do hope we will have a reasonable amount of time and a reasonable amount of information upon which to make a decision.

He is absolutely right, I agree with mantrum!

Why some composers love Orchestral Strings is simple: The short articulations are fantastic. The sound you can achieve with careful programming on Orchestral Strings is astoundingly full, with a very deep selection of articulations.

Here's an unusual sound comparison between full orchestra and chamber orchestra size.

18.Thoughts on Dimensions Strings 9/17/2014 1:13:03 PM

Has anyone tried any other Chamber library such as Berlin Strings or 48/60-piece string such as CineStrings or Mural Strings?

there i have been trying to use other vst library, even cine strings core library has too much better Sus patches with natural bowed legato that is awesome feature..! I think so that we have not any chance to get better Chamber section and therefore we need an update package for DS.

Saxer wrote:

for the violin sections i mixed different but similar articulations (legato vib, legato espr, performance trills) to get more than eight players. and i mixed regular, forced G, forced D etc to get some variation into the section.

very well done, but i think in this case we have exclusive template for Legato patches (legato vib and legato espr) but in other cases we have not any chance to extend an existing articulation such as long or short detache. in this case for short articulations, by mixing regular, forced G and forced D etc,... combination of these causes reflection and will produce the same sounds.
20.Dimension Strings vs Berlin Strings? 2/6/2014 12:50:26 PM
Dimension Strings is brilliant and has a strong tone. The main advantage of the Dimension Strings is that you can playing brutally forced fortissimo sound with short articulations that is key feature in fundamental principles of modern orchestration.

Berlin Strings has legato patch that is one of the highlited key features in this library and has Slurred-, Agile-, and Fast-Legato (scripted!) that all of them was not truly implemented and i think vsl has better legato script than other vst manufacturers and also has a few more useful articulation. i think Dimension Strings is vst's most ambitious project to date.
21.Does anyone have any opinion on other string libraries? 1/30/2014 9:39:07 PM
I have been forced to make a difficult decision, finally I will going through Spitfire Mural Symphonic Strings against Vienna Orchestral Strings.

Thanks for your opinion.

Arbee wrote:

In general I think of most other strings libraries as "reasonable samples enhanced by great rooms", while I think of VSL as "great samples played in any room I like" (with MIR). It all depends in my view if you always want your strings to sound the same (I don't), or if you're prepared to buy numerous libaries from numerous companies, each for a unique purpose (I'm not).

Edit: Another thing to consider is quality, It seems that many strings libraries are released as buggy, incomplete products and they use paying customers to beta test them (they spin it as getting customers involved).

Thanks for your opinion!

FredB wrote:

I did not try these libraries but some others. There is a lot of good strings libraries but I have come to the conclusion that the best one is the one that you know the best. I think the major part of a good mockup is in the midi programming and performance.

Some really nice sounding libraries sometimes lack in the number of articulations. Or sometimes the legato patch are too slow or too fast for some passage. I found that VSL almost always have the good patch for every musical phrase, specially the Dimensions. Adding some Dim Strings to others libraries gives life and realism.

Spitfire in general are really nicelly recorded, but I never used it, exept for the solo strings that I bought (nice but limited). But this is a small library.

I know there's a new one, Berlin strings. Have check the demos, again, good but how is it to work with? If I could have a try on every libraries I could have a real opinion.

Thanks for your opinion!
