1.Poll Closed! BBO: YMIR will be a children’s choir! 11/25/2020 7:26:33 AM

Great work with all BBO Libraries!

I would love to have String Ostinatos :D

2.W.A.MOZART - REQUIEM K 626 - Dies Irae 9/2/2012 6:21:02 PM

I absolutely love Mozart's Requiem, great piece of music! And I have to agree with William: The orchestral part is superb, you did a wonderful job there! As for the choir parts...yes I know how difficult they are, and I'm a lot of work went into it, but I think with word builder you might improve the performance a bit more.

Overall: Great job, and as I said: The orchestral part is really amazing!

3.Your way of working with VSL instruments 8/30/2012 5:44:09 PM

It's really interesting how different people have a totally different workflow. As for me, I must say I'm not a pro like many of you and mainly compose music as a hobby just for myself. Anyway, most of the time I already have an idea in my head to start with and how I want the piece to sound like.

So I start with my basic orchestra setup in VE (strings, brass, woodwinds with the basic articulations) and put things together. Usually a melody starts to expand, give me ideas for the harmonies, then the harmonies will give me new ideas for new melodies and so forth. Most of the time a piece is growing over the time, and I work on the details and the full orchestrations and all MIR-positioning  right from the beginning, so I don't have a finished midi-song first.

Most of the time, I enter short passages with the masterkeyboard with basic articulations (not switching anything while playing) and put in the key-switches with the mouse later on, together with velocity x-fades.

When I'm done I put in my Suite-effects in VE, mostly EQs and some compressors, and I program some automation where I need it, mostly volume changes. After rendering, some mastering is applied to the finished audio file.

This may not be the best workflow, but I've come to like it and feel comfortable doing so Wink

4.Boats Leaving the Harbor 8/30/2012 4:04:28 PM

I've taken a look at Monet's painting while listening to your piece, and I really liked the simple but beautiful melody! It's fitting well to the painting's mood!

5.Both Vienna Mir Pro 5 and 4 8/29/2012 6:16:24 PM

I think you're talking about Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 and 4, not MIR....but afaik, you can't use VE Pro 5 and 4 simultanously on one machine.

6.Dumb noobie question: Using MIR and Vienna Suite's Hybrid Reverb together 8/29/2012 6:11:34 PM

Paul,

thanks for the advice. That's clearly an idea so simple I couldn't think of it myself Wink

Also, re-reading the MIR manual actually helped a lot, as it clearly states that one can use MIR and Hybrid Reverb together. So after all, it was a dumb question. Smile

Now I'm realizing a mix similar to the one shown on page 49 of MIR's preliminary manual with MIr's wet signal send to MIRacle only on a separate bus and original reverb time reduced.

Thanks again!

7.Dumb noobie question: Using MIR and Vienna Suite's Hybrid Reverb together 8/29/2012 8:08:39 AM

Thanks a lot for the replies, everyone!

Yes, I have tried MIRacle already, and I will try using Hybrid Reverb not on the master but on different instrument channels to get some instruments / groups more "wet" than others. Best way to do so would be post MIR, right?

Thanks again Smile

8.Dumb noobie question: Using MIR and Vienna Suite's Hybrid Reverb together 8/29/2012 6:03:50 AM

 Hi everybody,

this might be a very dumb question, but I'm not a professional and use VSL products just for relaxation and to express my musical ideas to myself and some friends. I've been working with MIR Pro for quite a while now and I really love it. Now, I've added Vienna Suite to my collection, mainly because of its EQs and the Exciter.

After playing around with the Hybrid Reverb I kinda liked the sound when I put additional reverb into my master channel (after all the reverb and spacial orientation that had already been applied by MIR). Yes, I like the sound, and I know that if it sounds good it's ok to do so ;), but I'd just wanted to know if that is the right way to do?

Can you actually use both reverbs (MIR and Vienna Suite) together? Am I "overdoing" it, or is this a common practice to add additional reverb in the master channel after MIR?

Thanks a lot and keep up the great work!

Cheers, Michael

9.eLicenser full? 8/25/2012 10:48:21 AM

Hi Michael,

I experienced a similar problem a couple of moths ago. After installing the newest e-licenser software everything worked fine again.

Is all your licensing-software up to date?

On another hand: I've always wondered how much licenses do really fit onto a vienna key? it would make perfect sense if all available licenses would fit, right? Is that true?

Cheers,

Michael

10.Announcing VIA - Christmas humour 12/22/2011 7:21:07 AM

@Oceanview: Lol, that made me smile a lot Smile

Am I the only one who would actually buy this?Wink

11.Holiday Discounts 12/22/2011 7:18:49 AM

Unfortunately I can't say anything about US prices and discounts, but I just wanted to thank all at VSL for this great offer, especially Paul for answering my requests that fast and Dietz for getting me into buying MIR Pro in the first place. Now I've got a free Extended Library (because I've bought the MIR/VE bundle and another instrument).

Cheers and merry christmas,
Michael

12.Big Decision: Buying the MIR Pro / VE Pro 5 Bundle right now or wait for MIR Pro SE? 12/16/2011 7:29:02 AM

 Dietz,

thank you very much :) I guess my winter will be gorgeous indeed. With my rather small orchestral setup, everything is working just fine (even with only 12 gigs of RAM), and I just love the possibilities and the overall sound of it. Thanks a lot to everyone involved in the creation of this wonderful product. And it keeps me creative, too ;) Just wanted to experiment a little bit and try some sounds and ended up with creating a complete little 5-minute orchestral piece from scratch :)

Kind regards,

Michael

13.Big Decision: Buying the MIR Pro / VE Pro 5 Bundle right now or wait for MIR Pro SE? 12/14/2011 8:32:51 PM

Done.

Downloading room pack and Epic Orchestra now. Big Smile

14.Big Decision: Buying the MIR Pro / VE Pro 5 Bundle right now or wait for MIR Pro SE? 12/8/2011 9:27:43 PM

Hello Dietz,

thank you for the update on MIR Pro SE! I will run some more tests with my demo licence until next week and decide until december 15th :). If my machine can handle it (I won't be running more than 20-25 MIR Icons / instruments), I think I will buy :)

Kind regards,

Michael

15.Big Decision: Buying the MIR Pro / VE Pro 5 Bundle right now or wait for MIR Pro SE? 12/8/2011 7:37:56 AM

Currently I’m testing MIR Pro on my system, and even though I’ve only got 12 gigs of RAM, everything seems to be running fine, and I really like the sound and the possibilities. Great work, VSL team!

But there’s a difficult decision for me coming up right now. I’m tempted to buy the MIR Pro / VE Pro bundle, but then again, it’s a lot of money (for me, it’s just a hobby after all, I’m not a pro), and maybe I should wait until MIR Pro SE will come out, as I won’t need surround sound options and could live with the reduced capabilities of MIR Pro SE. I could invest the rest of the money in Vienna Suite. On the other hand, having all the rooms of the Vienna Konzerthaus would be cool. But then again, MIR Pro SE will probably not be bundled with VE Pro 5 then, will it? So I would have to buy VE Pro 5 separately.

Ok, I think that’s a decision I’ll have to make on my own, right?

Cheers,

Michael

16.MIR - worth the money? 12/4/2011 5:43:09 PM

Hi everybody,

I've been using VSL:SE for quite some time now since summer 2007, but I've never posted anything to this excellent board, so I guess first thing should be a friendly "Hi!" to everybody and a big warm "thank you" to all at VSL for creating this amazing software.

I'm not a pro, and I only use VSL:SE as a hobby project, but nevertheless I enjoy working with it very much.

When I read about MIR PRO I was curious to learn more about it, but I was not sure if my machine could handle it (i7 CP 930 @2,8Ghz with only 12 Gigs of RAM), but so far, my demo is working just fine (I don't have that many tracks, though, just about 20-24 tracks / instruments usually).

What can I say? I'm blown away, it's an amazing piece of software, very easy to use, and it sounds great even with just the one demo-licence-roompack.

I was seriously thinking about buying Vienna Suite soon, but now I think I should just invest a little bit more money and buy VE PRO 5 / MIR (bundle) and get Vienna Suite later.

Like I said, I'm not a pro, but in my opinion, it's definitely worth its money.

Greetings from Bremen, Germany,
Michael

17.My only problem with VSL SE right now... 9/8/2007 10:32:35 AM
...is how to get the money for some more of that great material? Big Smile

I'm new to VSL and have been looking quite a while for an orchestral library. I'm not a professional musician and do music on the computer just for fun and for some little projects like scoring some amateur movies.
I was thinking about getting an orchestral library and I found out about VSL.
First, I was afraid that it won't run on my rather old (4 years) PC (P4 with only 2 GB RAM), but I gave it a try and ordere the VSL SE. Having worked with it for nearly 2 weeks now, I can say that I'm very happy with it. It sounds great and works fine on my machine without too much track bouncing.
Thanks to all who have worked on this fantastic product!

No I'm thinking about upgrading some articulations and maybe getting "Brass I oder II" (as I'm doing much with brass)...
