1.Ready for macOS Catalina? :) 3/16/2020 5:43:52 PM

I'm moving to a new Mac Pro today and am attempting to use the Vienna Super Package disk I received a couple of years ago.

The instructional video says I should open the OSX Library Installer software on the drive first. When I do, there is a notice saying that it is not compatible with my system software (Catalina). OK, so I checked on my VSL software downloads page and I don't see this software available.

How should I proceed in order to use the Vienna Super Package disk for transferring the samples to my new drives?

Thanks.

3.Question about the Synchron Percussion Intro Offer ... 5/26/2017 6:56:39 AM

Hi Paul,

Yes, working on a Mac.

Wondering, where do I find that MIR Synchron download. Is it even available as of yet?

Thanks,

Jack

4.Question about the Synchron Percussion Intro Offer ... 5/26/2017 1:36:41 AM

Hi All,

Slightly different issue here but somewhat related.

I purchased Synchron Percussion - on VSL hard drive. I'm in between houses/studios for a few weeks as I'm moving 2,000 miles. I don't have access to my equipment, my computers or my eLicenser dongles as they're all in storage until the 2nd week of June.

So I haven't figured out how to register Sychcron Percussion in order to get access to download the new Synchron MIR pack. I'd sure hate to miss out on this deal especially because I both qualify for it and know of it. I'm not even exactly sure when the end date of this offer is. I believe the Synchron deal ends May 31st. I'm not sure if the MIR deal is tied to this date also.

Any idea how I can take advantage of this offer?

Thanks,

Jack

PS-

I was happily surprised that the VSL hard drive had all the VSL libraries on it. A nice safety backup. I do however wish that it wasn't Write Protected so I could replace libraries with their updates as they become available - For example - it would be nice if I could've put the Synchron Taiko and the update to the Synchron Timpani on the same drive for backup purposes.

5.How about the Synchron Series the new VSL 4/26/2017 12:11:46 AM

Hi,

Will we be able to purchase Synchron Percussion library on hardware media, i.e., ssd or usb drive?

Thanks

6.Dimension Strings CELLOS are ready for you!! 6/26/2013 4:38:13 PM

Dimension Celli are installed and working fine. However, I don't see a setting for it within MIR. Yes, prior to installing DS Celli I allowed VEP5 to update itself via the reminder.

Are there even settings for it yet?

Thanks

How big is the download?

8.RAM and Dimension Strings? 9/29/2012 10:32:45 PM

Regarding RAM & DS, here's what I've found so far. One .viframe with the 8 individual violins loaded with the Large Set L2 Presets each attached to MIR Pro using Mortzartsall v2 = approx. 13.5GB. Please remember that you will need RAM for your operating system and VEP also.

The Full DS also has 16 more instruments (6 violas, 6 celli and 4 double basses). I wouldn't doubt that perhaps they have a few less articulations in their same Large Set L2 Presets and might use a bit less RAM - plus the fact that they have accordingly less numbers of individual instruments. I would think that it has to be somewhere in the 20GB+ range for all the other 16 individual instruments besides the violins. So we could be looking at easily over 32 GB usage if you want total individual control of the instruments of each section along with the ability to have its total Force Sul capabilities.

This doesn't take into account using the Desks, Groups or All preset capabilities. Obviously, each of us will have to learn what corners to cut to make it work in our individual situations.

A couple small SSD's in a RAID configuration might be necessary too. Smaller SSD's are priced more affordably these days.

RAM is relatively inexpensive - and so is this library. Especially with the introductory pricing.

Besides, a lot of guys are going to be using this library and customers could be asking you if you can get this lively, detailed sound.

You could simply use the Desks alone and cut the RAM and throughput requirements in half. Lots of choices to make with DS. Lots of options available.

12.downloading Dimension 9/21/2012 3:56:16 PM

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the heads-up of the higher speeds. Unfortunately, it's still underwhelming. I've been downloading for over an hour now and it's just hit 2%. We're looking at over 2 full days to download the whole library.

I do see that you're up to 8 servers now and I'm sure VSL has put many man hours and considerable resources in the effort and I do appreciate that. I can't pretend to know the office politics of VSL (I know VSL likes to keep things in-house) but taking a look at using outside sources for this seems prudent - especially to meet expectations of first time customers. I think expectations are higher from a lot of people out there. For example, I was able to download Loegria from Spitfire via Continuata services in 3 1/2 hours. It was not a lot smaller than Dimension Strings.

Looking forward to an excellent library!

Hi Paul,

Will you please tell us when this higher speed is available?

Thanks

14.Dimension Strings 9/18/2012 1:17:48 AM

Thanks Herb and VSL Team,

Great expressiveness and detail! Looking forward to hearing the other new products as they arrive.

Congrats on this Herculean effort!

15.Using Flux's "IRCAM Spat" with VSl samples. 7/1/2012 5:48:45 PM

Here in America we have a saying, 'Turnabout is fair play'. My contention is that MIR works wonderfully not only for VSL samples but for other libraries. And MIR is a great tool for Pop genre music.

Here's a short little something in the TV/Pop context that show a different usage of MIR. The strings have some VSL but are other libraries too. (Note that in this example the strings are meant to be more strident, pop sounding and less orchestral - but that doesn't have to be case generally, it just worked for this piece.) There is some Bricasti plate on the snare and VSL Hybrid Reverb on the bass.

I have SPAT also (not used here). Currently I find SPAT useful for spatialization and localization of an instrument. I haven't developed any keen appreciation for its reverb. The reverb just seems so tacked-on to the end of the spatialization process. With MIR the reverberant qualities are inherent in the room environment that you choose. There are so many differing creative possibilities with MIR in comparison to SPAT.

What I do like about SPAT is that it's a simple plugin that can be instantiated within my host sequencer. That's handy, because right now MIR is only on my Slave machine and sometimes I have to think twice how I can get any sample that's only on my Master machine bussed over through the Audio Input structure to the proper place on my Slave.  But if what I've heard is true that MIR might also become available in the plugin format, then that will be a logical purchase here.

16.MIR 24 4/5/2012 1:52:45 AM

If you already own MIR Pro and have additional roompacks for it (and you want to use MIR 24 on another machine in your system) besides purchasing MIR 24 do you have to purchase the licences again for the additional roompack licence(s) you already own?

.

17.MIR 24 4/3/2012 11:54:50 PM

Forgive me if I'm behind the beat on this MIR 24 thing. The only annoucement I see of it is on the front page of the VSL website and there is no link to more info.

It seems like this also might be a good 2nd license option for current MIR Pro owners. For example, I have MIR Pro on my PC slave and would like to have some handy MIR capabilites on my master DAW, in this case a Mac.

I realiize there doesn't seem to be any pricing announcement yet - but will there be a discount for those who already own MIR Pro and are looking for a 2nd license?

.

PS - Can there be any discounted price for the RoomPacks we're already purchased?

18.MIR RoomPack 3 3/3/2012 1:16:44 AM

Hi,

Is there any demo/trail version of RoomPack 3?

I'd like to make sure this meets my needs before purchasing. Yes, I've heard Guy's new demo piece.

Thanks,

Jack

19.MIR Pro question 10/27/2011 10:35:36 PM

I'm pretty sure what Rob's asking here is can he do Audio Input from a VE Pro5 Slave machine (that's not hosting MIR Pro) across the network to another VE Pro5 Slave machine that is the host of the MIR Pro processing? (Then of course send the MIR Pro-processed audio back to the Master machine for inclusion in his sequencer's mix.)

20.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 9/27/2011 10:33:06 PM

What do you want to bet that it will be the best thing that ever happened to Omnisphere and other synths?

MIR brings them to life. When MIR Pro is your hands it'll only be easier.

This alone could be worth the price of admission to the MIR Pro club.

21.VE Pro needs too much power 9/25/2011 4:53:55 PM

I don't know if VEP 'needs too much' power per se. However, within Logic the instances (of VEP and Vienna Suite) do all seem to pile up on one core. It does to a certain extent limit the fun of the experience and the number of VEP instances.

It's not  just a problem with VSL software - it would seem to be an issue with Apple's Logic. For example, East West's Spaces does the same thing. I'm sure there are many other examples.

22.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 6/10/2011 4:45:33 AM

Hi Dietz,

A quick question. Currently in my 2-machine system I have a 2008 Mac Pro 3.2 GHz 8-core master and a big PC slave that I use for MIR processing. Will I need to replace this Mac Pro to work with MIR Pro even though I have this powerful PC?

In other words, do all machines in the MIR Pro network need to be able to process at the level currently required for MIR?

.

23.VSL vs Hollywoods Strings #2 6/5/2011 7:06:14 PM

Interesting the complete failure of Hollywood Strings to handle the fast articulations. All blur and no definition.

Yes, I also would have gone with the Orchestral Strings (w/ maybe a hint of the Chamber Strings shorts).

However, hats off to the original poster for his honest work and effort in this. It must have taken a bit of time to put these together.

.

24.Hybrid Reverb 5/28/2011 4:16:47 AM

Yeah, it's cool. Like all Dietz-inspired products it gets it real value from all the expert-level features included.

You've got to carefully watch and re-watch the 2 videos to see and hear
all the unusual stuff it can do. It's a real toolbox of reverb fx. It'll be a great tool for pop mixes also.

I'm  glad I have it - even though I have MIR and hardware reverbs. Hybrid holds a special place.

25.MIR - future sound... some feedback and suggestions... 5/8/2011 4:35:30 PM

fritzflotow wrote:

E.g., it may be realistic in theory, that every instrument sits in the same recording room, but it is not necessarily the best result for the sound you are after. Maybe you want the brass to be in the konzerthaus, but for the Strings you prefer a small stage with additional reverb to compensate, etc. ...

In this regard I was secretly hoping that when MIR Pro comes out that I will still have a regular MIR license and having 2 machines will be able to install MIR on one and MIR Pro on the other to be able to get 2 MIR-type venues simultaneously.  I hadn't run this concept past Dietz yet but on the surface I can't see anything that might stop this from being possible.

fritzflotow wrote:
What I think is a major missconception of MIR is that you just put your Intruments in the room where you think they belong and except everything to sound great. To be honest: when MIR was anounced I also had high hopes that I wouldn't hve to care for mixing that much any more in the future. I guess it will always take experience and skill to do a great mix, no matter which tools you might have ...

To a large degree I think MIR can be 'set & forget'. However a lot of us like to expand our spatial/reverberant techniques into what we're hearing in our minds for the mix at hand. Beside, we like playing with things. With the advent of MIR PRo there will be a ton of things we can do creatively with stems and technical tricks.

I do like mpower88's ideas for future expansion of MIR.
