1.[SOLVED] Epic Orchestra gone? 9/10/2016 8:31:19 PM

Well I pointed you in the right direction, then you pointed me in the right direction, lol! It's quite embarrassing, actually.. you mentioned master and slave machines, and I suddenly remembered that I had been using Epic on a slave machine when I was using it last. I've since consolidated everything onto one machine. I gave the slave machine to my daughter, and put the USB key away in the dongle drawer. I simply forgot that I have two keys, one with just VE Pro, and one with other stuff, including Epic.

Mischief managed.. you can mark this as solved, while I go hide behind that curtain.

2.[SOLVED] Epic Orchestra gone? 9/9/2016 5:25:15 PM

Found the Directory Manager. It was already pointing to the right sounds, but I reset everything and scanned anyway. Didn't work. Elicenser software no longer displays Epic Orchestra.

3.[SOLVED] Epic Orchestra gone? 9/9/2016 4:52:15 PM

Where is the directory manager? I'll try anything! I have this same problem since updating to VEP 6. Very uncool. It's a small library, but I still use a few of those instruments in my template, and more importantly, in older projects I'm pulling up right now. In my case, after the VEP6 update, I got a messege every time I loaded a project, saying my demo would expire after so many launches. And that it did. But I've had the little Epic Orchestra since like, 2008-2009, when I first got VEP.

I hope we get an answer on this soon.. I need to know if I have to replace some instruments in the older projects I'm working on, or I can't move forward on them. I wouln't want to spend the effort to replace everything, only to find that it's something simple to get EO back.

4.Do new versions of VEP still break connections? 9/14/2013 1:21:28 AM

Hi Paul, glad you could make it to this thread! The original poster (me!Smile) wanted to know if he could safely update the VEP software now, and not worry that all the connections to the plugins are broken..

Is it because I don't run the computers here with static IP addresses?

I've never seen the behaviour you describe. It sounds as if there is something wrong with your set-up, like not using fixed IP, for example.

Interesting. I've never had it not behave that way, using and updating it for over 3.5 years now.

And, I had no idea that using dynamically allocated IP addresses on my computers would be considered as something wrong with my setup. I restart them everyday, and they get different IP addresses, probably most every time, considering I have a dozen or more devices on the network.. the only time these connections get broken, ever, is when I update the VE Pro software. Hence my query.

6.Do new versions of VEP still break connections? 9/7/2013 1:45:44 AM

Guess this may have been a dumb question?

.. or it's been answered many times here and I just couldn't find it. Not a problem, I'm just going to stay on the version where I am, it works.

7.Do new versions of VEP still break connections? 9/4/2013 2:26:15 PM

Hi guys,

I'm on 5.1.12195, on 2 Mac Pros, main and slave, with OS 10.8.3. I use DP8.04.

I was thinking about updating VE Pro to the latest version, as I don't want to get too far behind, but there is this issue.. seems like most every time I've updated VE Pro (on both machines, of course), the connections between the plugins in DP and the server on the slave machine gets broken. The plugins still remember the instances and their settings, thank goodness, but must be reconnected to the instances one at a time. This is a big time waster for me, as some of my projects currently in production may have anywhere from 5 to 12 VE Pro plugs instantiated in DP.

Once I connect it all back up and save the document, all is good again- but I have to do that for each VEP plug, for every document I'm working on, and all past projects.

So the question is, if I update now, will I have to go through this yet again (don't have time right now), or is the behavior fixed, OR have I just been missing a step or doing it wrong?

Thanks!

8.VE Pro MAS support? 7/18/2011 9:03:30 PM

Yes I'm interested in this myself, Paul. The 16 ch. AU limit is really the only reason I've been hoping for a MAS version.

9.Midi assign in DP 2/25/2011 4:01:34 AM
Sing4doe wrote:
Anybody else having issues assigning midi channels to instruments in VE PRO in DP? Omni works but when I try to split of to each VIPro instrument I get nothing in or out.

That's because you need to assign the MIDI channel to each instrument individually. Leave the VEP channels in omni, but every plugin/instrument gets its own MIDI channel. For instance, I have might have 3 instances of Kontakt within 1 VEP channel. The VEP channel is set to omni, but the 3 Kontakts are set to MIDI channels 1,2 and 3. If there are 3 more Kontakt instruments in the second VEP channel, they might be MIDI channels 4, 5 and 6, etc.

10.VEP- Soooo tired of "Could not load plugin" 2/16/2011 3:11:06 PM

That's what I thought.

Thanks Civilization 3 and Karel!

Oh, one more question if you please. The slave machine (8-core Mac Pro) boots into 32 bit mode automatically. Should I boot into 64 bits instead? Would it make any difference? All I do with it is VE Pro, and given that I make the corrections above, do I stand to benefit from it?

Karel wrote:

Were the projects saved with an older version of VE Pro? This bug was fixed some versions ago and was related to saving, not loading.

Hmmm, yes I think this may be the case. I will rebuild this whole setup from scratch (3-64 bit and 1-32 bit instances) and see if that ends the problem.. It's good to know that it's been fixed, thanks!

Also, I think I have the multi-processor function on in my Kontakt prefs, so I'll turn that off.. do you guys think I need the "memory server" pref in Kontakt, if I'm only using 64 bit instances in VE Pro?

12.VEP- Soooo tired of "Could not load plugin" 2/16/2011 12:10:40 AM

On my Mac Pro slave machine VEP server, OS 10.6.6

My Mac Pro master machine is running DP 7.2.1, OS 10.6.6

VEP 7644

With Kontakt 4. It used to be that placing a "dummy" Vienna Instrument at the last slot in the server instance would solve that problem for me, but now that workaround is not even working anymore. Today, it loaded the dummy instrument and the Kontakt that was second to last, but none of the Kontakt instances that come before. They are shown to be there in the mix view, but the channels are empty and the samples don't get loaded. It's a really complicated orchestral instance, and rebuilding it is very time consuming. Guys, (with respect) are we close to getting a fix for this? I've had it in several of the latest versions.

Thanks!!

13.How do I get VEP to use 2nd Ethernet port on Mac Pro? 12/21/2010 3:41:34 AM

That's why you set static IP address for en2 on each machine. You can set a static IP per NIC. It is advised to do so. Make sure it's set out of the range of your DHCP addresses.

OK, excellent, thanks Jeremy!!

why not !

I have done the above using a Macpro and a Mac mini !

Ah, but if I do that, how do the computers know to use the straight connection, and not the regular switch?

I don't think there is a way in the VEP server to tell the the computer which port to use, is there?

Wow could it really be that simple? I'll try it and report back.. wondering how the slave machine gets its IP address..

Say, maybe I go from EN2 on the master, to EN2 on the slave, and have EN1 on both machines connected to the switch/router?

Man, hope I don't blow anything up!!Embarrassed

16.How do I get VEP to use 2nd Ethernet port on Mac Pro? 12/19/2010 2:00:57 PM

Hi everyone,

I recently added Euphonix controllers to my rig, which use ethernet to send and receive into the main Mac Pro. I have a (GB) switch that connects to a router in another building. The slave machine (also Mac Pro) hooks into this switch. Everything worked fine until I installed the Euphonix, and now the 64 bit VEP server on the slave machine is crashing, but not the 32 bit instance, oddly enough.

I have the (5) Euphonix controllers on their own GB switch, which is connected to a port in the main switch, where the master and slave computers are connected. This way, everything can get their IP addresses assigned from the router. The main computer is using only ethernet 1 for its connection. The Euphonix system must be connected to EN1 to work properly.

So my question is, is there any way for the master machine to use ethernet 2, to have a dedicated connection to the slave? I have tried coming out of EN2 into a switch, then out of that into the slave machine, but it doesn't work, presumably because the slave can't get an IP address from the router. If I got another Router/GB switch and put it between EN2 on the master computer and EN1 or EN2 on the slave, would that work? How would I set up the Mac network settings?

Thanks!

18.VE Pro and DP7? 7/5/2010 5:34:40 PM

However MOTU's native MAS plugin architecture DOES support mutiple MIDI channels in a similar way to RTAS.

It would be so beautiful if VSL saw fit to port a MAS version of VEPro for all us DP heads in the community. (hint, hint, nudge, nugde, candy and flowers and kisses)

+1

Yes it would be nice, and would fix a big roadblock for so many of us (WINK! WINK!).

20.Could not load plugin (K4.1 and VePro4.0.5814) 6/14/2010 2:54:29 PM

Yes, this is happening to me as well using K4.1 with VEP 5436.

The strange part is, in the (64 bit) instance where it happens, it loads the first 5 channels of K4.1 no problem. It's only the 6th and final channel that the plugin will not load. The Channel shows up, with it's name and all, but no plugin. If I close that instance and load a saved version, it loads up just fine.. weird.

btw, this is happening on a Mac Pro (slave machine) with Snow leopard.

21.VE Pro, AU 16 MIDI channel limit- is there no way around this? 6/4/2010 4:53:29 PM

I understand that it's an Apple imposed limitation, but since we could theoretically wait forever for them to fix it..

Is there anything you guys could write into the software that would break this limitation. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm not a software developer, so..

I would really love to cut back on the number if instances I'm using on my (Mac) slave machine for really big templates, because the more instances I have, the more problematic it becomes with DP, and the "scrambled audio bundles" issue.

22.VEP buffer affects CPU usage on master or slave? 4/23/2010 8:20:36 PM

Agreed, thanks Karel!  .. even if it was not the answer I had hoped for!

Amazing, I was about to post this exact question myself!

24.Kontakt 4/16/2010 3:49:21 AM

I'm using Kontakt 3.5 in VEP on a slave machine (Mac Pro). I have anywhere from 10 - 20 instances of it in my templates, on 2 instances of the 32 bit server. I also have a 64 bit server running alongside of that with Vienna Epic Orchestra plus 2 instances of Omnisphere.

One of the 32 bit servers runs nothing but LASS (a Kontakt hosted instrument).

Everything runs beautifully, but I'm not running multis in Kontakt, just singles for everything. The Mac AU spec only supports 16 channels of MIDI per server instance, so setting up multis in Kontakt is kind of pointless for me anyway- I just use more instances.

+1 same here, I really like it, and with each version it just gets better! Thanks VEP team!
