I didn´t know, that the wav-files are ready for use! :)

And yes, I´ve loaded the Quad-Files, but in 44.1 Khz.

Is it better to use the 48Khz-files?

I see, that the VSL-files has 96Khz!

Hi,

can anyone explain me, how I get to run the free Bricasti IR´s in VSL Convolution Reverb?

I downloaded the "Samplicity M7 Main - 03 - Wave Quad files, 32 bit, 44.1 Khz, v1.1" and they say, that it works in VSL.

But there are only many diff WAV-Files, not the vci-format....

please help.

hi Raji,

yesterday I heard ur Dead Man Walking again, with perhaps not so tired ears. :-)

And what Guy say is correct - no realy distortion here too. :-)

I think, what me confused was in first, the Limiter, but the Compressor too.

When a big drum comes, the whole music turn down for a short moment, incl. the big drum.

I think, that when u turn off the Limiter, u will get distortions - or?

What I would do, is to turn off all ur helpers and make at first a finer mix, perhaps max -4dB or so.

At the end, perhaps no helpers are necessary - and now it will sound much better?

Did u take a look on Beat Kaufmanns tutorial?

U use Ensemble 2.

Did u send back to Qubase, the seperate instruments in seperate audio pipes?

This would be necessary for the three (or more) deepness setup, I spoke about.

(a very good discription for Cubase u will find in the ensemble pro user guide)

Roomworks seems to be a good reverb.

There are to see the three room parameters, Direct with color for the depth, Early Ref and Tail.

If u can find the three equivalent parms in roomworks, it would be no prob to explane the realy easy way of styling deepness and nice room per bus sends...

hmmm..

for me, all instruments are in the same room. :-)

ive one reverb as master (Altiverb) - but with only earlyRef and tail on.

and three identical reverbs in three busses with only direct on (early and tail off) and with three diff colors for the depth.

Near 0.15, Middle 0.25 and far 0.4. (but it could bee more depth steps)

then u can route the diff instruments in their diff positions, with panning them per PowerPan, or other stereo panner.

sounds great and depth.

I think that compressor, maximizer and enhancer are not a good idea for ur work.

Do u use Ensemble pro?

Logic or Qubase?

Whitch reverb?

It would be very interresting to hear ur music without all helpers, but Reverb.

The balance between the instruments is so hard to archive!

Without my studied musician friend, I think that I never archived basicly good results.

Its a good idea to aks a musician friend for hints. (on pure version - no helpers)

As exemple, ur  basses are very loud, which is not necessary and more bad as good, etc.

And like Guy says, ur room setup must be overworked...

A big big step for me was the Tutorial 2009 from Beat Kaufmann.

these are two of some newer peaces, build with Appassionata Strings and SE and SE Plus and Altiverb.

My first upload on VSL community... :-)

The first one is for a 3D-short film.

Inspired from a Appassionata-Demo of Christian Kardeis. I hope not to near to it!

Hi,

I change the Dyn Range after every preset loading.

And I don´t know about changing per matrix.

This would be realy nice for me too.

btw. the defaults from 16 or so are much to low for me.

The most time I work with 25 on all.

And since a view days with Appassionatas and Dvoracs new world for training, I set all of them to 50.

perhaps I´m totally on the wrong way, but sond false and sounds not really could be a room theme?

did you use a good reverb and room possitioning?

this wold make a dramatically difference.

since a view days I use Altiverb.

one instance as channel insert - for room positioning. (what a great tool!)

(with only direct, no early ref, no tail)

there are for every orchestral instrument fine presets.

than a second instance in master - only early ref and tail - no direct.

the difference is incredible.

for me it was the biggest moment since using VSL!

Yes, what you say at first is abs correct.

I didnt hope to get all perfect samples I ever need.

For me, its normal to work with velXFade or volanimation.

But I´ve my little probs with this (please take a look in my Automation thread).

I dont know, how to manage the automation curves so perfect, that there are no ugly soundchanges to hear, in the moment when one note ends and the next beginns.

Its the same with velXFade or volumeani...

So I hoped to find for the most cases a way to use dyn articuliations..

And You are right again.

I think that velXFade makes nearly the same then pfp as example.....

but... :-(

perhaps I must start a Logic thread on the Logic Users page.

And thanks for the hint of cell fx, I´ll try that and thinks its perhaps a good workaround.

hmmm, quasi-legato? I dont understand what U mean ... :-(

I love the dyn-med and pfp´s but the spread between piano and forte is too big for me...

They comes from zero goes to forte and end in zero.

For me, zero is less than ppp and not piano!

And when I increase the velocity of the note, forte becomes ff. The spread is everytime the same I mean.

I wish there is a way to say: please start with 30percent from forte, go to forte and end with 30percent.

Without counterautomation!

It´s heavy for me to find the right words in english, so its poss that I often say things, I didnt want... :-)

That A/B switch take affects per matrix, was somthing I´hd to learn... :-)

Fact is, that I´ve since only a few days so many articulations (Appasionata Bundle), that I´ve to think about organisation of them.

So I made at first one matrix like 6x3.

So I´ve to juggling one keyswRange for horizontal, one for vertical and one for A/Bswitch.

These are 3 layers of keyswitches.

When I would decide to use 3 matrixes instead of, for better independent A/Bsw... it would result on one more keyswRange!!!!

Perhaps I think to complicate?

BTW, pehaps it is possible to deactivate the thight/loose or legate/portamento A/B and decide to use only one of them?

-I think that I´ll dont need them so often....

I hoped, I didnt found a parameter where I can adjust the spread between piano and forte...

so that no automation is nesessary in most cases...

Because I´ve my probs with automation - but only in the area between the notes.

As example...

Note 1 is forte and has no dynamics.

Note 2 is pfp dyn and starts with too low velocity.

When I try to counterbalance Note 2 with more volume there is a short moment where the automation runs from 0dB to +4dB.

For me its not posible to avoid, that there is a short moment where I can hear, that in the endphase of Note 1 the volume runs to +4dB.

When I push the automation curve more in the starting area from note 2, then I can hear too, a short moment of automation!

When I set the transition time from 0dB to +4dB to a longer/smoother time, then both notes are not correct for a moment...

Perhaps there is an automation trick I don´t know?

I´ve abs new the Appassionata String Bundle.

But there are only dim.cresh.samples in 2,3,4 seconds or 2,4,6 in pfp..

a.  this is often not perfect what I need...

b. please take a look in my thread 

dyn-me / pfp articulations handling

this is the next reason I think automation is much more usefull....

c. often I need that a realy long tone starts a 4s dim. after a view moments running normal....

and so on..

So I´m sure, that the dyn. samples are great and often helpfull, but more often special fading per automation is necessary...

When I use a complete matrix there are more than one instrument which has an A/B switch.

thight/loose, crescendo/diminuendo, legato/portamento, etc.

Every ABswitch is default on Key A0/B0.

So when I use one AB in one articulation, it switches the other ones too!

Is the only way in handling ABswitch to assign for every articulation unic A/B Keyswitches?

With all other "normal" keyswitches I see a big keyswitch battle comes over me!?

It would be great for me, when U can tell me how U manage the keyswitch handling.

When I decide to use dyn or pfp articulations, nearly everytime the "loudness"/velocity isnt perfect.....

1. case - the tone starts with perfect velocity but ends too loud..

2. case - the tone ends with perfect velocity but starts much too low..

Its the same prob when I use pfp.......

Is there any trick to manage this without automation?

I´ve some probs to work with automation.

I hope you´ve some usefull hints for me...

Its everytime the same, when I use automation.

(no difference between Volume animation per Instr Group, or modweel (velXfade), etc. )

An example:

I have at first a long note followed immediately by the next one.....

I want that the long note plays a diminuendo and the next note plays in normal volume/velocity....

For me, it is often totaly heavy or impossible to get a perfect result....a short ugly volume-transition between the two states isnt to avoid...

Equal how deep I zoom in........

perhaps there is a method I didnt know?

any hints?
