1.Synchron Strings I 12/5/2017 12:18:10 AM

I keep seeing posts asking about articulations that are literally already listed on the page...

Legato – regular
8 velocity layers

Legato – slurred
8 velocity layers

Legato – fast
8 velocity layers, 6 variations

Slurred legato is there.

Fast legato is there.

The fast legato has 6 variations - that makes it also work as a performance trill. That was the whole point of performance trills; many different legato transitions so you don't get machine gunning on trills.

2.Synchron Lenkwil cinema organ? 10/23/2017 6:01:58 AM

I realize everyone's excited about the rest of the orchestra at the moment, as am I, but I noticed something in some pictures of the stage - there was an organ! Apparently it's a pretty unique one, too. Will we also be seeing a Synchron organ in the future?

3.Question about Jay Bacal's John Williams demos 10/16/2017 8:54:10 AM

The random notes are likely keyswitches.

4.Synchron Strings I 10/12/2017 3:08:30 AM

Exciting news, but no col legno? :(

Maybe we'll see it in a second library.

5.Orchestral Strings I and II 9/12/2017 11:18:04 PM

You could check the manual. Also note that the sordinos are only included in the extended versions.

6.Vienna Key not working 9/7/2017 7:11:25 AM

Things to try;

A different USB port.

Restarting your computer.

Checking if it's still detected by the license manager; if so, you might try reinstalling Vienna Instruments.

All of the above are just things that might be a simple solution and not guaranteed to solve the problem, the absolute best thing to do (the above suggestions won't hurt at all though and recommend trying them just in case) is to contact VSL support directly, they are usually extremely helpful.

Last resort, make sure the key is still in warranty and contact VSL support about replacing your licenses (you will have to mail the key to them IIRC, they should describe the process to you).

7.Feature Request Or Suggestion: Chamber Strings Combi 8/18/2017 9:25:50 AM

VI-Pro lets you change the interval mode like so -

You can set it to polyphonic or monophonic.

8.Feature Request Or Suggestion: Chamber Strings Combi 8/17/2017 8:42:03 PM

I suggest reading the manual and watching VSL's videos on VI features - you can place multiple patches in a single cell on a matrix, and that includes legato patches. You can then crossfade the ranges of each section with each other (this is explained somewhere in the videos). I'm not aware if you need VI Pro, because I had it from the start and don't really remember which features the free version doesn't include.

9.Feature Request Or Suggestion: Chamber Strings Combi 8/17/2017 7:23:04 AM

My thoughts are that you could try designing your own patch to work the way you want; you could definitely arrange your own polyphonic legato ensemble in VI, for example.

10.Synchron new libraries ? 8/11/2017 1:41:22 AM

This is what I'm wondering as well - what kind of section sizes for strings will we be looking at? Of course solo strings are expected, but I'm curious if there will be chamber sections as well as orchestral sections (not really interested in larger symphonic sections like Appassionata).

11.Does anyone else have this problem with Chamber Strings I? 4/27/2017 1:21:41 AM

Well it's very annoyingly inconsistent to have only the bass and cello sections not looping the same as the violas and the violins. And AFAIK, it's their only string ensemble library that has this problem. I was told by VSL they don't have any plans to update this, probably because they're working on Synchron stuff.

12.Does anyone else have this problem with Chamber Strings I? 4/18/2017 10:28:44 PM

This is a problem I'm having with Chamber Strings I specifically, I already contacted VSL support about it and double-checked that my download wasn't corrupted, and reinstalled to doubly make sure.

On performance interval patches, the top dynamic layer doesn't loop at all (definitely true for standard legato, haven't checked the others yet). This doesn't happen for Chamber Strings II. Can anyone else confirm that this is happening to them? At this point I'm at least 90% sure it's a bug, since I don't think VSL would just loop one of the dynamic layers.

I think this also happened when I used Best Service's demo service to check out the special edition version of the chamber strings, but I thought it was because of a poor connection or some other factor. Can anyone else give me their thoughts on this?'

EDIT:

Someone else brought it to my attention that the violins and violas do NOT have this problem. They also confirmed that they have the same issue - the basses and cellos are the sections having this problem.

13.License transfer taking days for VSL support to notice? 10/25/2016 2:53:00 PM

Yeah, thanks for the help!

14.License transfer taking days for VSL support to notice? 10/24/2016 4:59:17 PM

I thought maybe a forum post would help get attention, because I haven't had a single non-automated response from VSL support yet over the last few days. I bought some licenses for Special Edition Vol. 1 bundle, VI pro, and MIRx Teldex, which they approved after the previous owner paid the fee. I received the eLicenser in the mail several days ago, confirmed it had all the promised licenses, and told VSL support that I received it (more than once). It's frustrating dealing with this unexpected delay because I'd like to get things on the road ASAP.

Is there some kind of promised response time? I can't figure out how to get the attention of VSL support.

EDIT:

seems like that posting in the forums did the trick, because I got a response. Thanks for getting around to me.

15.Repetitions in Special Edition 9/26/2016 1:55:42 AM

Yeah, the flexibility is why I'm leaning towards VSL, since I'm taking a sound design approach instead of a Hollywood approach to the soundtrack for a project of mine. It's just that more RRs give me a bit of flexibility in writing a piece, since I can write repetitions for a good while. Then again, less RRs might force me to write more dynamic sections in place of that... I don't think it's a deal breaker, but I'd still like to know.

16.Repetitions in Special Edition 9/26/2016 12:23:46 AM

Hi, I've been debating between East/West Hollywood Orchestra and the Special Edition Volume 1 bundle here (very similar pricing), and I'm learning towards the Special Edition because I'm approaching my music with a sound design philosophy, for which EW's stuff isn't as flexible and doesn't give me as wide a range of timbres to work with.

However, there's one issue I'm stuck on, and it's round robins. I love being able to repeat several notes without machine-gunning, for which I believe at least 4 round robins are necessary for sounding natural. I've heard that all short notes only have two round robins in the SE (which is a huge weakness compared to EW's offering, to me, but somewhat workable when you use dynamic layers to your advantage), but the Volume 1 Plus adds performance repetitions. I saw another thread about this, but it wasn't really clear - does this add more round robins to the spiccato/staccato, or what? I saw that the intervals between repetitions were sampled, but I can't tell if it adds more round robins. I'm a bit confused about what they actually are. Can anyone clarify?

EDIT:

Also, I'm concerned about round robins on percussion, since rhythmic elements are very susceptible to machine-gunning. How many are provided there? I use heavy amounts of percussion.
