1.Crossfade missing in solo horn (Synchron brass/SIbelius) 8/10/2022 1:54:29 PM

Dear VSL

It seems like the automatic crossfades are missing in the Sibelius soundsets for solo horn (Synchron brass). It's working fine for the 'Horns a4' and for the rest of the brass instruments, both solo and ensemble.

Is it me who are doing something wrong? I have tried changing Vel.XF from CC2 to CC1 and changing between 'Horn in F' and Horn in F [no key] without succes, and if I use 'Horn in F a4 [no key]' as soundset, then it works.

2.Synchron Elite Strings - Settings for Dorico, Sibelius and Cubase 7/9/2022 9:14:13 AM

Hi Andi,

Is it possible to trigger 'Dynamics' in in Sibelius soundset? F.ex. the 'Soft swell' in the Elite strings, Contrabass etc.

I have been seaching the online guide and the forum, but can't find a way.

Best regards

Martin

3.Vienna assistant, install very slow 4/19/2022 8:12:06 PM

Dear VSL,

I am instllaing all my librarys againg, around 3,5Tb

I have downloaded the files to my local ssd and are installing to an external sdd

The transfer speed are around 10-15 mb/s, so the process will take close to 100 hours in all.

Are ther something I can do to speed up the process?

Ps. Both ssd are NTFS

4.Vel.XF not working in Sibelius for Wood SY 6/11/2021 12:20:17 PM

Vel.XF works fine for SY Strings, but not SY Wood. Only difference in setup is that Vel.XF is on CC 1 in strings and CC 2 in Wood (and brass etc). Even though I change to CC 1, XF still does not work.

In Seblius I use soundset VE SY Winds and VE Strings

Have I missed something?

5.Time lag before loading software 9/21/2016 10:18:17 AM

I have a I have a considerable delay time when starting VE6 and VI pro after upgrading my library to Vienna Super Package. It takes 60 sekunds before VE6 starts to initialize and thereafter only 20 sekunds to start the software, starting VI pro the first time inside VE6 takes 20 sekund and loading my (big) violin preset also takes 60 sekunds before the samples starts to load in VI pro. This is very time consuming when loading a full orchestra., and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the software.

Is this problem due to the Elicenser dongle? It seems like the software has to check a lot of licences when opening software and loading samples, and then the solution to have around 50 licences on a dongle is way to time consuming.

Ps. My Elicenser dongle had memory problems, but they where resolved when updating and cleaning the memory etc.

Best regards Martin

6.[SOLVED] Instrument Patches do not show up anymore 1/6/2016 12:54:21 PM

I'm also having troubles after the latest updat:

Every time I try to load a preset/matrix it turns up red in the channel (as if missing patches) it also turn down the volume to -15.0. But it playback alright after turning up the voulume.

7.Dimension strings using extra ram 1/16/2014 11:00:37 AM

Dear VSL

For some reason loading the presets in Dimension strings in Vienna Ensemble Pro cost a lot of extra ram besides the ram needed for the samples.

Normally, if I launch a VI-pro with the same samples as one already launched, it cost around 0,1 Gb

But doing the same with f.ex. the preset: 04P VI-All Large Set L2, it cost 2,5 Gb for every extra launch of this preset in VI-pro.

Why does this happen? The sample counts are the same, so it have to be something else.

8.Server, ram and VE 1/8/2008 7:53:01 PM

I didn't know that you need ECC ram to get beyond 8 Gb, but it makes sence... The tyan motherboards I'm talking about needs ECC/registret ram, but not the fully bufferet ram as in the intel 5000 (dual processors) and 7000 (quad processors) series...

9.Server, ram and VE 1/7/2008 9:39:57 AM

I'm in the proces of buying a new computer to run VE etc. and consider to buy a server to run the applications:

Motherboard: Tyan h2000m or Tyan n3600m, both with 16 dimm (DDR2 reg.) and ram limit on 64 Gb

Ram: 32 Gb (16x2Gb) Maybe even 48 Gb, if the motherboard can use 4 Gb 4-rank ram modules...(8x4Gb+8x2Gb)

Proccessor: 2x opteron 2347 (quad-core)

System: Vista 64-bit or XP64

Programs: Sibelius 5.1, VE and VI

The reason for AMD Opteron is, that it use "normal" cheap ram instead of Intel 5000 series that use the more expensive FB-dimm.

Hardware price (in Denmark) with 32 Gb ram: around 2000 Euro

Questions:

1) With the Opteron, the ram is connected to each of the 2 processors (8 dimm each).

a) Can Vienna Ensemble use both proccessors at the same time? (and by that, all the ram..)

b) Can Vienna Ensemble use the quad-core?

2) I've read on the forum that it doesn't make much sence using more than 8 or 16 Gb ram, because there is limitation in using to many Vienna Instruments...

Are the limitations only in the number of VI's or does it influenze have much RAM each instance of VI has?

(I would use 40-50 instances of VI, with a lot of samples in each VI)

10.Xp 64 and LAA in FX-teleport 2/19/2007 11:34:07 AM
Does anybody knows how to get the LAA into FX-teleport?
I've tryed the "hack" with editbin.exe, but I can't get it to work, I can't find the .exe file in FX-teleport, or am I on the wrong track?
Do I need the 3 Gb switch in XP64?.

I have 3 slaves with XP64 and 4 GB ram and are using FX teleport to route the audio from the slaves to VSTack (and chainer) on my main computer.
My slaves has a ram-limit around 1,7 - 1,9 GB ram.
Is it only the fx-teleport that need LAA, when it's the only thing running on the slaves?

Hope anybody can help

11.GIGA 3 Orch. on a seperate PC HOW? 3/21/2006 2:51:22 PM
Dear Poppa

Thanks for the reply...
I don't know why it dosn't work, I falled back to my old Pentium computer with the normal XP 32bit insteed of XP x64 as main computer, and then using the new 64bit as slaves, that works fine - no problems with LoopBe30 that I use insteed of MoL... I then use FX Teleport to transfer the sound etc.
12.Midi over Lan and XP x64 3/19/2006 3:57:51 PM
Has anybody tried MoL in XP x64?, I can't install it, I've looked for versions for x64, but didn't find anything, I've also tried LoopBe30 with the same negative result, is it because of the drivers?
Everything else works fine in x64 (VI, VSTack, Chainer, Sibelius) I just need the Mol/LoopBe30 to connect Sibelius with VSTack and thereby the VI.

I have two 64 bit PC's with one dedicated to GigaStudio 3 Orch and samples and the other with Sonar 5 PE and Sibelius 4. I can send the MIDI to the GS3 from Sibelius or from Sonar and it works perfectly well.
Hope this helps.
.....

Be Well,

Poppa

Dear Poppa

Do the MoL work for you on your two 64bit computers? Do you use the normal XP? I've tried to install Mol CP on my 64bit computers with XP x64, but it stops the installation. mayby because of XP x64 (I can't find speciel x64 drivers for MoL) I've also tried LoopBe30 with the same result Crying
Everything else works (VI, VSTack, FX-teleport) I need the Mol to generate internal MIDI in my host computer to control VSTack from Sibelius.

14.RAM - loading same instrument in VI 3/5/2006 10:18:41 AM
Is this something that will be solved in a later version of VI? I hope so. Mayby it's just in my system the instruments uses full ram for each load of the instrument. Confused
By the way, the VI sounds fantastic!

wolfgang wrote:
That's a great quesiton. I'd be interested to hear an answer as well.

I've found a solution. I use MoL (MIDI over LAN), which create new MIDI-ports, where I can route the MIDI in "Playback and Input Devices" in Sibelius to the new MIDI-ports into V-Stack which can hold 16 VI-instruments (you can also use Chainer or other programs, or a combination to get more than 16 VI-instruments)

16.RAM - loading same instrument in VI 2/27/2006 10:06:17 AM
I remember reading somewhere on the forum (can't remember where) that you only use RAM once if you load the same instrument (f.ex. VI-6 Perf-Universal) in several VI. But in my system (V-Stack) it uses 611 Mb for every load of the instrument!

17.Sibelius 4 and VI 2/24/2006 9:31:40 AM
I have tryed to start several VI-instrument with with the program "Chainer", but it didn't create new midi-channels where i could route the midi from Sibelius (Like in GS, which create GigaOut: Port 1, Port 2 etc.)

Does V-Stack create "new" midi-channels when it's used as a stand-alone?
18.Sibelius 4 and VI 2/23/2006 3:54:20 PM
How can I set up the computer to work with VI and Sibelius 4 as a sequencer? I've been working with Gigastudio, Performance Tool and Sibelius as the sequenser via the VSL MIDI Router. But now I just got the VI!
Can I be content with Sibelius, and something like V-Stack to launch several VI-instruments, or do I need an extra program?
I have nuendo.

Hope anybody can help Smile

19.First Test results for Vienna Instruments on PC 2/9/2006 8:00:14 AM
Paul wrote:

XP64, we haven´t tested on a 64 bit machine yet, I will as soon as I get my hands on one. But the Vienna Instruments are not yet optimized for 64 bit systems yet, and as I understand it, you only benefit from 64bit technology, if every part of the system is optimized, from the chip to the harddrives, the drivers and applications....

I will keep you up to date.

Best, Paul

I think you are right, but as I read on the homepage of microsoft, you still get the benefit of the RAM-management. It would be excellent to get a test on a 4 Gb RAM xp64 computer, to see if you can load more than 2 Gb of samples.

Hi, Paul

Good numbers! I'm looking forward to receive the VI.
Are you having any test with XP 64-bit? I hope that it will solve the RAM-problem Confused

21.Asigning program change to tuning slider 2/3/2006 8:41:20 AM

Gigastudio 3 has a tuning slider to the right of the volume slider with 0-127 values. I can control the volume changes and record this with a slider on my keyboard using my Cubase SL sequencer without any modifications. However, I cannot get any of the keyboard controls to do this for the tuning slider. Any advice?

A late answer [Smile]
As Gugliel said, you schould go into the editor in GS, and load the instrument, then go into properties and change the "Pitch bend" from 0 to f.ex 2, thereafter you can control it via pitchbend (miditext: B0,1-127)

Hope this helps [Smile]

23.A question about RAM Management 12/13/2005 10:22:56 PM
paynterr wrote:
It is easy... and a standard technique used in IT... it is a cache that unloads the least recently used item. It works like this:
1) Associate a 'last time played' time with each sample.
2) Everytime a sample is played, e.g. receives a midi note, then update the time on the sample. This indicates that this sample is in use.
3) Only if memory starts to run out, then unload the least recently used samples... or hopefully the samples that have not been used at all in this case. But do this either a) During playback, or b) whilst the user is not busy... e.g. as a background task whilst they are away from their PC.
4) When a sample receives a midi event and is not loaded into memory, then load that sample into memory there and then, with obviously a small downside on latency.
5) Provide a default switch to default all samples to be unloaded from memory when first you load a patch thus all samples will be lazily loaded into memory the first time they are played, thus no unnecessary samples will ever be loaded into memory.
6) Provide a further switch to control the amount of pre-load so that pre-load can be set to 0.0 seconds thus allowing a virtually unlimitlness number of VSL instruments on a single machine.

Hey Paynterr!
That sounds very interesting! Definitaly a feature for a VI-upgrade. The use of RAM is a major issue. Mayby you could use a 'lock' button in the technique you presented, to lock the (optimized) samples in the RAM. In that way you can still use new instruments on the top, without risking your old samples thrown out.

Martin
24.New user interface and XP 64-bit 12/10/2005 12:00:28 PM
cm wrote:
the Vienna Instrument is currently developed as 32-bit applikation and therefore runs in 32-bit compatibility mode and will be also restricted using ressources. how much we can get using e.g the /3GB option has to be tested.

What is the restrictions? Is it maximum 2 Gb for each VI there is open and 4 Gb in the whole in XP?

As I read it, when I surfe for the XP 64-bit, it seems it can run programs in both 32 and 64-bit. There is a limitation of 4 Gb per application, and maximum RAM is limited by the motherboard, which could be 8 or mayby 12 Gb at the moment.

When you have to open a new VI for each instrument, I could hope the limitation regarding a single application doesn't count, and I therefore could use whatever tons of RAM i but in my machine (in XP 64-bit Smile )

Has the VI been tested in XP 64-bit?

Best regards

25.New user interface and XP 64-bit 12/9/2005 9:31:51 PM
Can anybody in the staff tell me, about VI running on XP 64-bit? The memory has always been a big question regarding Gigastudie with a lot of limitation in Gigastudio and XP, which hopefully schould be solved in the XP 64-bit version.

Can the VI make use of f.ex. 4 Gb ram in XP?
Or mayby 8-16 Gb ram in XP 64-bit?

Thanks in advance Smile
