1.Vepro 4 and latest cubase not working? 2/3/2015 9:57:41 PM

Yeah thanx, already did that  :)

Just checking to see if anyone knew of any more immediate solutions :)

2.Vepro 4 and latest cubase not working? 2/3/2015 9:13:58 AM

yeah.

makes no difference...or rather, no difference to this perticular issue, at least :)

3.Vepro 4 and latest cubase not working? 2/3/2015 2:23:21 AM

Hi.

I never had any issues with this before, but after updating to the latest version 8 of cubase, and the latest kontakt version..., all i get back from VEpro 4 now is a warped messy sound, everything is distorted and sounding as if it were run through a bitcrusher at very extreme settings.

Very unusable.

Upon loading a project, cubase seems to struggle with getting sound from VEpro 4, and after a few seconds the sound starts to deteriorate and go all lofi. Only happens when i run vepro 4, cubase and VSL and kontakt works as it should inside my daw otherwise. The only thing i can do to get the audio back, is disconnect Vepro from cubase in the cubase project by turning the Vienna rack instruments off in cubase, saving..and reopening and turning them back on again,. So there is something corrupting my daw when connecting to Vepro...and i just cannot figure it out....tried everything i can possibly think of and more...but it does not seem to make any difference.

So ...is vepro 4 not really working anymore?

I cannot see any updates since 2012.., and upgrading to VEpro 5 costs money..., and i do not really need any of those features anyway.

Could somone from VSL shed some light on wheter i should or should not expect VEpro to work with the latest cubase incarnation....., ? If no....then basically it is useless anno 2015.

Or perhaps someone has had any similiar issues....any help is very appreciated :))

Oh yes, and i am running windows 7, I7 machine with 32gb of ram and a bunch of ssd drives.

Vienna, kontakt, cubase and all is up to date...with the exeption of Ve pro 4...which apparently sems to be intended for the collective software junkpile. argh,

THanx :)

4.Download instruments - Strings ? 8/20/2011 6:47:14 PM

I Really do hope to see Dloadable VSL strings, even if you do not break up the collections, for a number of reasons.

Personally i stopped, whenever possible...to buy DVD products in general. becouse of the extreme costs in getting the actual physical product imported through (as in the case of VSL) a local distributor. An example: for the full Appassionata set, i payed 1270 Euros, ...and i find that purchasing more dvd collections are too expensive compared to dloadable ones.

Now the same applies to other libraries as well, of course...(1.000 usd Hollywood brass gold, anyone? :()....but even with the favourable exhange rates, i end up paying much more than my European collegues, and even then...there is a long waiting peroid for getting VSL dvds, becouse they seem not to be kept in stock across scandinavia...meaning i will have to wait several weeks or more for a simple dvd.

Dloading even HUGE amounts of data over several days by far outweighs paying almost twice the price as the listed ones, so i do hope to see the Full range of VSL products online some day. In the meantime, it is very tempting to look for solutions elsewhere when in need of new instruments, becouse actually purchasing these DVD`s has proven to be a costly and prolonged experience, in my case at least.

Money is scarse, or at least scarse enough to not want to throw it out the window , when it is perfectly possible to have a dloadable solution to accomodate all users, even if you "Must" keep the string collections intact ( which i also do not think is needed, but that is not for me to decide, of course ).

Cheers!

Voxos.

6.Transition sounds in legato instruments 6/30/2010 5:46:16 AM

Yo... there`s nothing wrong ...at some point VSL changed the fader ranges from 1-100 to the standard midi range 1-127. So all the default values gets converted and re-calculated.They are however...the same in terms of MS`s.

It`s a bit confusing...i have a VI plugin version that has the "old" range...the VEPro VI`s uses the new range...somehow they were not all updated at the same time, or maybe i didnt, but anyway...point is, the default values 50 and 63 are in effect the same :)

I think the latest version Should have 63 as defaults.

That`s what VSL told me anyway.

7.How to make your mother cry 5/24/2010 7:40:03 PM

 Thanx man! Priciate your comment.

This was a more or less a test to see how far it was possible to push the Appassionata Strings in terms of fast runs and such, the ending is more a loose thread for me to grab onto, in the eventuality that i prolong the piece some rainy day :)

Thanx for your time.

8.How to make your mother cry 5/21/2010 7:52:41 PM

 Yo peeps!

Please take a few moments to check out a piece i did recently.

Now, this is not a "vsl" only composition, but the Strings are VSL Appassionata, and the trumpets are The Fanfare trumpets, so i figure there is enough of VSL in here to validate posting this here.

Also, i used the vienna suite eq and powerpanner on all the trax here, no other plugs involved, exept for the reverb ...which is a combo of VSL, Altiverb, Roomworks and custom impulses.

http://www.box.net/shared/qdkxlu0l2r

Thanx for listening :)

9.Vienna Choir finished! 4/30/2010 9:04:57 PM

 Aaah yes, thank you :)

10.Vienna Choir finished! 4/29/2010 1:58:47 AM

HM interesting....so are you guys saying the Dload sopranos are not a part of the dvd version?

Thats odd..since there is a discount? I like and use the dload version alot...and was kinda hoping that the rest of the sections were as good or even better.

Could somone post a few short examples of a simple and plain legato phrase ,perhaps?

I cant really tell whats what from the demos...in perticular the Males would be interesing to hear in more detail.

11.HOLLYWOODWINDS MANIFESTO 4/20/2010 8:20:38 PM

No, you did not get that right :)

Well ok "stupid" in the sense that: discussing if a certain sample lib is dumbing down music or not seems rather futile in this context  since we all use them to some extent, and if one is to follow that logic...would not all of them be doing that pr definition?

But by all means...if people here feel there is a substantial difference between a sampled 8 horn section and a woodwind ensemble , im not passing "judgement", simply stating my opinion, You are free to take in what way you want offcourse :)

Im not over or under any discussion, just i think the question is based on a weird form of reasoning...yeah so maybe they are dumbing down things, it may very well be...but i dont see how HWW for example is doing that any more than what we already had for years?

Thanx for your comment on the demo btw, i simply wanted to show that the library is not only a loop or "press one key" type of thing, but alas...:)

12.HOLLYWOODWINDS MANIFESTO 4/20/2010 4:19:38 PM

This is a stupid discussion...about the evils of samples again, being..ironicly...held on the forum of the biggest (perhaps) Sample library developer today. Come on now...

For example, the demo i posted..i said it was done in 1 hour..and it was, BUT...there is certaintly not anything that sounds like that out of the box, if i showed you guys the midi file you would certaintly see that even with prerecorded runs and phrases, you need to be able to write ( in general..not saying i can :P) and program well, AND...this illusion of holding down one key as a part of the new world order of dumbed down composers is simply a myth.

Play back a single pre-recorded phrase with any lib..and it will sound exactly like a single phrase being played back...and imo, if you cannot differentiate a phrase from a complex arrangement done by a skilled composer...well, you are a much bigger part of the problem of dumbed down music than any sample lib developer.

I dont think there ever will be a shortcut to writing good original music even with samples, ...we have had prerecorded orchestral phrases for YEARS, for those that can rememeber that "far" back....

And the great misconception here is the idea that somehow a library like HWW exists only to dumb down or make unskilled composers shine...well, thats simply wrong as i see it. It exists to give you more options, variation, nuance and possibility...that does not compromise anyones artistic skill or integrity at all, i have a hard time understanding why those are seen as mutualy exclusive, especially when the majority of people making those same old claims are indeed also working with samples for 99% of the time...?

So...if one could have done something like this with say, EW or VSL, i would have preferred that..becouse it would ultimatly give you more control...but you cant, so i embrace what possibility we do have today, instead of complaining it will take away your work or make you redundant somehow...i dont think skill will ever become redundant in this context, quite the opposite really...becouse mastering all these libraries is actually a additionall skill to learn, and anyone having worked with samples KNOWS that it`s NEVER a case of going to bed at 10 while the pen and paper guy sits up all night....if anything, it`s quite the opposite :)

13.Vienna choirs...will there be a wordbuilder ? 4/15/2010 1:38:33 PM

Ah...thanx for making that clear, priciate it.!

Understand that you cannot specify the schedule, thats ok...and even tho you dont mention any WB features, i guess that`s where I hope this will end up , and more or less i think that`s what is being implied here? :)

Thanx for your time.

14.HOLLYWOODWINDS MANIFESTO 4/15/2010 1:23:20 PM

Whaat...I think you people are missing the point.

Hollywoodwinds is a GREAT library actually...that lets you do stuff that simply is not possible with any other lib.

Think of it like any other library only with more ornate articulations...you still have to know how to write for it!!

Here`s a demo i did when the lib was brand new, just to see what it can do...It took 1 hour, as opposed to the godknows how many hours this would have taken otherwise, if at all possible.?

If you use HWW to augment your other WW`s it adds something lifelike, organic and very kewl to the end result, i have them permanently in my template, and love what they can do.

Serves a very specific purpose, just like it says on the box.:) No hype.

15.Vienna choirs...will there be a wordbuilder ? 4/15/2010 6:36:03 AM

So...id really like to get the VSl choirs, but i feel they are too limited at this point...so a simple question:

Will it ever expand? And will there be some sort of wordbuilding feature at some point in the NOT too distant future?

It is quite expensive as it is already....personally im not gonna purchase this unless i know it will be expandable at some point, becouse getting stuck with some quite costly ahhs and uuhs seem less desirable than some of the other current competing products.

I think its a fair question, and one i hope VSL will answer...they did give out the impression they were doing a preliminary version...and that implies there is more to come offcourse...i dont see what use i would have for another aaah library at this point, so i think it would be helpfull to get some more info on what the plan is here,,,it all seems rather vague.

Anyway, so there you go...hopefully there will be some info on the grand masterplan behind this soon, so until then im holding back my looong planned purchase of this, becouse id like to know if it will actualy expand into a full choir with the mentioned WB capacity we all have gotten acustomed to from certain other libraries....

So, VSL...feel free to shed some light on the matter :)

On the other hand I do appreciate how difficult it is for VSL to come up with an offer that's fair to users AND logistically workable for the company, which is why I'm not chucking my toys out of the pram.

Well, here`s a crazy thought...what about just giving 50% off the extended edition for EVERYONE?

You know, like a proper introductory offer...that doesnt require the user to spend money on additional libs to meet the sales criteria...

Wacky concept , huh? :)

Anyway, grats on the release...looking forward to hearin` some more demos and stuff :)

17.Vienna Choir 3/18/2010 6:04:59 PM

Noticed that the choir choiz has ended.... just missed by 10.000 samples :) oh well.

Hi Dietz,

Thanks for these answers!

This is quite what I'm doing now :)

It's just I was hoping someone (I guess at steinberg as I'm using cubase) had known about a secret feature that would allow midi entries to be played a head of there actual position (meaning that graphically there is no change but it would be launched ahead of a value the user could enter...it's wonderful to dream isn't it?)

I'm now flying over earth with MIR! Thank you SO much for this incredible tool!

Now i dont have MIR, but if i understand your question right, this can be done very quickly in Cubase, altho you have to do it for each midi\audio track.

In the leftside inspector panel for each track, you can offset a negative or positive value specified in MS`s to each track, so the playback will be offset accordingly without moving the sequencer data. This requires that you know how much you need to offset in MS`s offcourse.

in Old versions of Cubase, you used to be able to do this individualy for each midi part, which was a very good feature so that you could adjust the timing of each part independantly.

But this should work for your needs i think?

19.Choirs - anyone else excited? 2/20/2010 5:24:14 PM

Ah i see...hm, well so the standard edition will only be covering Ahhs at this point?

Honestly i dont expect to see a wordbuilder version of this for ages...which is fine, votox sounds like jibberish anyways.

Love the "creepy" versions idea tho...that sounds pretty kewl :)

20.Choirs - anyone else excited? 2/20/2010 5:01:55 PM

hey...saw this on another site (Timespace)---via their newsletter.

Articulations

  • Vowels 'A' (aah) and 'U' (ooh) as staccatoes, sustains and Legato Performances, at 4 dynamic levels
  • Staccato repetitions of the syllables 'ta', 'pa', 'ra', 'sa', and 'tu', 'pu', 'ru', 'su'
  • Sforzatos, crescendos and diminuendos (2,3 and 4 seconds)
  • Legato Performances
  • Legato Glissando Performances
  • Semi-tone and whole-tone Trill Performances
  • Interval Cluster Performances (3 tone clusters)
  • 'Regular', 'expressivo' and 'creepy' versions for many articulations

Looks kewl...but does that mean they will be releasing the choirs with only Ahhs and Oohs at this point? hm..

21.Vienna Choirs, Yeah!!!!! 2/5/2010 10:11:03 PM

Will you be publishing the Articulation list soon, that would be interesting...and wouldn`t give away anything in regards to the number of samples i think?

22.Missing Appass 1 Articulation. 2/1/2010 5:40:50 PM

Ah , see...thanx for clearing that up.

I thought the entire contents of APPII was con sordino, as there is no mention of any regular arpeggios anywhere on your product pages.

23.Missing Appass 1 Articulation. 2/1/2010 1:39:30 PM

No, the Appass 2 library is with mutes , im talking about non-muted arpeggios for the Violins, Violas and Celli, which alot of other users seems to have in their Level 2 set of Appassionata Strings 1, and is clearly seen and HEARD here http://vsl.co.at/videoplayer_flv.asp?ID=210

Not that its such a big deal...but i`d surely like to know why i don`t have the same articulations in the full Appass library as others do.?

24.Missing Appass 1 Articulation. 2/1/2010 12:41:37 AM

I had a peek at a couple of Guy Bacos`s video demo thingys, and i noticed that in the Appass1 Violins demo there was a Art called VI20 Arpeggios.

How come those are nowhere to be found in my Appass (level2) set?

Hm did VSL remove them from the collection recently or something?

25.Showing new CHOIR library (even in Beta) at NAMM? 1/20/2010 6:41:24 PM

Great news!

I take it the "old" soprano choir is not a part of the final library then?

Yet i seem to remember that the newsletter from VSl mentions a discount?
