1.Can anyone help identify what member of the Brass this is ? 4/7/2021 10:21:58 AM
It is an Eb Bass Helicon, which in the photo supplied is played by Philip Timms in1909, according to Wikipedia.
2.Adding new instrument in Sibelius and VE causes problems 2/17/2021 12:01:27 PM

In a project I'm working on, which had no issues, I have added two Horns, and now playback doesn't work properly.  The Horns are playing on the Trumpet channels in VE, nothing is happening on the Horn channels, and the two trumpets are playing on one channel. In the Sibelius mixer the Horns weren't allotted Horn sounds but Trumpet sounds, so I set all the channels in the mixer to auto, and eventually the Horns were allotted Horn sounds, yet on playback, they are still playing on the Trumpet channels in VE, with of course Trumpet sounds. Why is it so temperamental when adding extra instruments? What can I do to change it?

3.Strange behaviour on playback 11/11/2020 2:44:04 PM

Hi Andi

I have upgraded to the most recent eLicenser Centre, without success. I am using Solo Violin etc with the Solo Strings. I can't see what the cause of the problem is!

Regards

Philip

4.Strange behaviour on playback 11/11/2020 1:30:02 PM

Hi Andi

All I can say is that it was playing exactly as it should two weeks ago. I am having problems with the license usb sticks, and perhaps this could be messing things up, though not sure why. I had problems before and I was advised to go to an earlier version of eLicenser Control (6.11.9.2258). Should I try upgrading to the most recent version now?

Also, the troubleshooting guide doesn't mention solo strings, which is what I am using. What instrument choice should I be using in Sibelius to use with Solo Strings?

5.Strange behaviour on playback 11/11/2020 12:31:02 PM

Additional information. It is for a String Quartet, and if I solo a part it plays back correctly, but when all parts are playing it changes how it plays back.

6.Strange behaviour on playback 11/11/2020 12:23:01 PM

After leaving a project in Sibelius for a couple of weeks, which was playing back perfectly, I have re-opened it, and now the playback is incorrect: e.g. slurs over three quavers now playing as 2 slurred and 1 staccato, and staccato on random crotchets. Very odd, as I hadn't made any changes.

Best wishes

7.Vibraphone problem 7/23/2020 3:01:45 PM

Hi Andi

My VE PRO is already uo to date. So that must mean that I have to put up with the VE Pro Server reloading after the initial startup. If it crashes again I will send the report to you.

8.Vibraphone problem 7/23/2020 12:09:35 PM
Problem solved by saving and closing both Sibelius and VE. On restart the correct sound finally played.
However, this brings me an irritating problem- how to open Sibelius and VE without hassle.
If I open Sibelius first, and then start VE and load the project, the project has to reload when I connect Sibelius to VE. If I start VE first followed by Sibelius, VE sometimes crashes when I choose the playback set up at the beginning of startup for Sibelius. Alternatively it doesn’t crash, but once again VE has to reload the project.

Is there any way of avoiding this?

9.Vibraphone problem 7/23/2020 8:14:19 AM
Hi

I’m working on a piece for Brass and Percussion which was going well, all sounds working correctly, and I decided I needed a vibraphone, but when it plays back it is a glockenspiel. I have a glockenspiel on channel 6 of the Sibelius mixer, and the Vibraphone is on 9. The Vibraphone is loaded in VE, and plays correctly in VE. I noticed when I adjust the pan in Sibelius for the glockenspiel, the Vibraphone pan also changes, which doesn’t make sense as they are on different channels.

10.Strange chord at opening 7/8/2020 8:12:55 PM

In a piece for Brass and Percussion the opening beat has a chord on Marimba sounding, when the only notes notated are for Trumpet. I checked all the channels and each is correctly assigned to Midi 1 or Midi 2. What will be causing this rude interruption on the Marimba, which should only appear a minute later?

11.Where are all the Percussion 7/8/2020 7:04:42 PM

I finally got all the instruments playing correctly for each trick, but Have been left with another problem. Inexplicably I am getting a percussion chord on the first beat of the music, when no percussion instrument is meant to play. Bizarre!!!

12.Where are all the Percussion 7/8/2020 6:19:20 PM

I got it working, though the Sibelius Mixer has caused problems again. I’ve had to select auto for most of the instruments to function, though I can’t get the Xylophone to sound, even though the channel for it in the mixer is working. Initially, when I allowed the mixer to choose the channels, none of the percussion sounded, and only the brass played.

13.Where are all the Percussion 7/8/2020 4:40:45 PM

Having restarted and installed the most up to date Sibelius Soundsets, I still find that there is a limited list of Percussion instruments available to select. I had tried to find the VE Percussion Sound Set pdf before, but it didn't show up. I tried finding it again, and it has turned up. I have a lot of reading to do.

Hopefully it will work now.

14.Where are all the Percussion 7/8/2020 4:15:59 PM

Hi

I have just purchased the Complete Percussion, and am trying to set up Vienna Ensemble to work with the Percussion, instead of the Sibelius Percussion. In the Pro Event Input, I have selected VE Percussion (though I often have to deselect it because it shows SE 1 or some other set, and then after resulting it it's ok), and I'm trying to select the Program names to match the instruments I'm using, but there are not many options.

I attach a screen shot to explain. In the meantime I shall shut down my computer and restart. Perhaps the list of available instruments will be greatly increased. We'll see.

15.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 3:36:44 PM
I had done as you suggested but still had two instruments on the same channel. That’s why I adjusted the channel, and it’s been working fine since then.
16.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 2:18:13 PM

If I can ask a supplementary question. Is it a good idea to set volumes in the Sibelius mixer to 127, as the volume will be set in VE7?

Philip

17.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 2:15:28 PM

Hi Andi

Finally sorted it. I had to reselect Vienna Ensemble for Channel 1, and then I was able to select (Auto). However that still left me with two channels shared, so this time when I altered the channel number from 10 to 9 for the 2nd Trombone, all the instruments played correctly. I ahd tried to change the channel number before, but it hadn't worked. Frustrating. Good job I'm not working to a deadline.

Thanks

Philip

18.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 1:58:19 PM

Hi Andi

That is very strange, because I have tried each channel in the mixer, and I can't select auto. When I click on auto they all remain as (V.Ens).

19.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 1:00:42 PM

Hi Andi

Here are four screenshots. The one of the Vienna Ensemble window show that one of the trombone channels is not being used, even though all three trombones are playing. It is the 2nd bar of the piece.

I couldn't see how to attach a file so I had to send it with DropBox.

20.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 11:16:39 AM
Unfortunately the Sibelius mixer chose channels which meant one instrument didn’t get its own channel. I tried altering the Mixer to correct that. Muting the click makes no difference to how the mixer allotted the channels. I’ve wasted two hours trying to sort it out.
21.SIBELIUS MIXER 6/4/2020 10:08:42 AM

I'm having problems setting up a new project. I've just upraded to the newest Sibelius Ultimate and have set up the project as normal. This is a Brass project with 11 channels for the 3 trumpets, 4 horns, 3 trombones and a tuba.

The first couple of Bars has just 3 trombones joined in the 2nd bar by Tuba, but on playback the Tuba sounds like a trombone, so I observe the mixer window in VE and it shows the 3 trombones are playing through the 9 and 10 channels, and the Tuba which should be on channel 11 is playing on no 8.

I now check the Sibelius Mixer and find that channel 8 is the click track, and that the trombones, which should be on tracks 8, 9, and 10, are on 9, 10 and 10. All tracks are listed as V.Ens.

I then try setting the Mixer to Auto, playback, and now find that the 1st trombone is now sounding like a trumpet, and sure enough it has been changed from channel 9 to channel 1. The click track has now change to channel 9.

Why is this happening, and why does the Click track select a track which is needed by an instrument, forcing two instruments to share a channel?

In my last Project everything works correctly, and the click track shares a channel with an instrument, without forcing any to share a channel.

Thanks

Philip

22.problem with e-licensers 6/2/2020 4:58:00 PM

Now I have the older e-Licenser, which has solved the problem, what do I do when downloading new software? It always says to use the most recent version of e-Licenser, so do I ignore that stipulation?

Philip

23.Duplicate tracks loading 6/2/2020 7:17:03 AM
That fixed it. Good idea to always save the Playback Configuration every time, even if nothing has changed. I also went to Preferences in Sibelius to make sure Sibelius always loads in General Midi. It’s something I had done before, but when upgrading to Sibelius Ultimate, I had forgotten to select again.
24.Duplicate tracks loading 6/1/2020 2:50:00 PM

In addition to the above, each time I load up I have to make changes which had been previously made and saved. Every time the Bassi reverb has been disabled, needing to be re-enabled. Also the MIRx is at the Berlin Teldec, when it should be the Vienna Konzerthaus. It's like been caught in a loop, with no escape.

Philip

25.Duplicate tracks loading 6/1/2020 1:58:02 PM

After solving a problem with e-Licenser (thanks), I now have a bizarre problem with loading up Vienna Ensemble.

I load up an Instance, called Strings, with 9 tracks, including Master. Then I load up Sibelius Ultimate with the score using Strings. Vienna Ensemle responds by reloading Strings, but this time with 18 tracks, including two Masters. Everything is duplicated. I delete the duplicated tracks and save the Instance as it was before with only 9 tracks.

I tried the same procedure, and it happened again.

Now I try loading Sibelius first, followed by Vienna Ensemble. The Instance loads up correctly, but this time I need to connect Sibelius to the Instant, and as soon as I do, VE reloads the Instance with all the duplicated tracks.

What is causing this?

Philip
