1.Upgraded from 5 to 7: Connected but not sending Midi 11/28/2019 5:17:44 PM

I loaded the server perfectly fine and the plugin in my DAW connected to it as it should. However, it will not transmit midi, even though the server is recognizing it is receiving midi data. If I trigger notes on my slave computer, the audio is coming through in the DAW. For a quick fix, I just routed the audio from this borked VEP instance to an audio track and played along via my slave computer through Copperlan. (Janky, but it worked).

Based on your comment, I just purchase an addtional license of VEP7, so now it is:

Master: VEP7 With License

Slave: VEP7 With License

However, the problem still is not resolved. No midi, although it is registering events on the server, will trigger anything. Audio goes between the two systems perfectly fine. I'm afraid that I now just purchased an additional license that I do not need.

Uninstalled and reinstalled and it appears to be working. Not quite sure what happened. I can confirm that VEP7 plugin will connect without a license to VEP7 on a slave with a license. Not sure what I am going to use the additional license for at the moment, but I'll probably be using it in the future.

Hello,

I am currently running VEP on a Master and a few slave computers. For now, I upgraded a single license on my main slave and updated VEP on my DAW computer. (I saw in another thread you do not actually need a license on a system that isnt hosting the slave, so I would try it). The weird thing is, it is connecting fine; however, it is not transmiting any midi. If I go over to the slave and click on notes, everything comes through on my master computer.

Do I need to purchase a second license, or is there something else going on?

4.Question Regarding Automating in VEP and Instrument Templates through Network 12/17/2016 3:56:56 PM

5.Question Regarding Automating in VEP and Instrument Templates through Network 12/13/2016 7:56:52 PM

Hello,

I have two questions I have been scratching my head about:

1) Is there a way to automate parameters through a DAW to networked VEP slaves? Up until now I have not really had to deal with this; however, as I am investing in some beefy synths, I need to be able to automate parameters on a section by section basis in my projects. Is this possible?

2) I work on several projects at the same time that utilize different templates, primarily mic positions and changes within each instance of VEP. When I open a default template or change projects shouldnt my coupled VEP instances automatically switch to that project's/template's settings? The big thing is if I am working on a project that I have balanced a sample's mic mixture, I would like it to revert to my default settings once I open a blank project. As of now, I have to manually go back through my templates and re-tweak any changes to "default" them. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

6.Crackles in VEP 6 12/13/2016 7:45:01 PM

Hello,

I had a similar issue with VEP5 awhile ago. For me, it ended up being a combination of DPC latency, network drivers, and my DAW Cubase. Eventually, the problem resolved itself through some updates, and minor tinkering on my part. Hopefully this gives you some avenues to explore.

7.Sending MIDI from "Slave" Machine 6/12/2016 1:45:23 PM

Look into using midi over lan. There are paid options such as iPmidi (http://www.nerds.de/en/ipmidi.html) or free options such as rtpmidi (http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html). If you have a mac, you are already capable of doing this under the midi/audio settings in utilities. If you are on PC, you need either of those programs to do so. This does work if you are want to send data between PC and Mac. Through this method, I do believe you are able to reroute audio as well, but if you have your instrument hosted in VEP and you are triggering events through midi over ethernet, you most likely wouldnt have to do that. I have not tried doing what you have suggested yet. I only recently started incorporating this into my workflow.

8.DOUBLING VEP5 THROUGHPUT 6/10/2016 6:27:47 PM

Wouldn't aggregating your network do this? The downside is you would need 2 ports on each system for one connection.

9.Master and Slave Ideal Configuration (Perfect Set Up) 6/10/2016 6:25:49 PM

A word of warning: You may wish to shy away from using the onboard  intel network adapters with Cubase 8.5 and Windows 10. My master is an Asus deluxe board and my slave is a x99WS. When I first got my network started I was getting all sorts of pops and fuzz from VEP slave. It was definitely not my horsepower. After much digging with latencymon and the intel forums, I found that it was my onboard network adapters that were freaking out with windows 10! I have managed to get it under control, as it does not affect the export quality, but it is something to be aware of. Unfortunatley I do not have access to chat with any system builders as to what drivers/network ports play well with others, especially on windows 10.

10.vienna ensemble 6/10/2016 6:11:49 PM

VEP usually does a better job of spread the load evenly across your cpu's cores. I know there are samples out there that do not really distribute evenly, VEP cleans that up. Also you have the benefit of keeping your sounds loaded when switching between projects. That alone makes it worth wild :)

11.Question about Port Options and using a Network Switch 6/10/2016 2:09:01 AM

Hello,

Currently I am using VEP5 by directly connecting my computers together. This also means that I have the optimized port options configured since they are only sending data back and forth to eachother These ports are not connected to the internet. Now, if I were to use a router, or network switch, do I need to be concerned with any security risks with the recommended port options for VEP if it is connected to a router that also supplies internet? This would mean that the "customized" network ports on my computers would also be connected to the internet. The router in question is: http://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-EA6350/

12.VEP5 Crashdumping when loading EWQL Instruments 6/10/2016 2:01:28 AM

I know EWQL is aware of the loading time issue. I have not been told anything about the crashdumping problem by either VSL or EWQL.

13.VE Pro 5 and Cubase, sound distortion 3/6/2016 10:28:30 PM

I have been having similar problems, since December, when using a networked system. Although I have gotten some audio distortion, I have been mostly been getting random pops and crackles, which do not seem to be related to buffer size. Side note, these artifacts do not happen in consistent spots, nor do they make it into the final export.

After burning out my UR22, I got a Focusrite2i4. I was having some issues with Cubase, but after contacting Focusrite support, they sent me some beta drivers that were not posted on their website. These drivers resolved some of the problems in Cubase, but they did not fix the issues of using VEP5 across computers. You may wish to ask support if they have any really current drivers?

Have you gone through and tested the DPC latency in your machines to see if anything is locking up your cpus? This problem seems to be amplified for people using windows 8.1-10. DPC latency, along with network drivers, making sure you have a fast enough ethernet cable, and adjusting your buffersize are the only things I have been able to find to potentially fix this issue. Sometimes one thing seems to fix it for most people, while not so much for others. Most of suggestions and help I have received have not been through the VSL website.

14.Renaming VEP5 Instances 3/5/2016 4:20:38 AM

Hello,

Is there a way to rename VEP5 instances without having to delete them and then make new ones? I like to keep my instruments grouped by section and in score order, but whenenver I update their profiles, I would also like to update what the instance is named for quick and easy reference.

15.VEP5 Crashdumping when loading EWQL Instruments 2/27/2016 5:22:18 AM

Hello,

I have been having a heck of a time loading up VEP5 with EWQL instruments. Typically it will get to about 40%, although it varries from attempt to attempt, before it crash dumps. I have previously submitted the error file, but I am wondering if I am the only one experiencing this issue?

Also, are there any known performance issues with Cubase, 8.5? I have had some inconsistent performance, which I have been able to live with, but I am wondering if there is any known issues, and if there is coming from either VSL or Steinburg?

16.constant clicks with Ensemble, Cubase 8 Artist, and Windows 10 2/27/2016 5:15:05 AM

I do not believe you are alone in your problem. I have been having this issue since upgrading to windows 10. It only seems to be happening when using it in servermode between computers. I have gone through and weeded out any potential DPC Latency issues, driver updates, and instrument plugins.

17.Loading Plugins and Effects through Networked VEP 12/25/2015 8:35:49 PM

It seems that I am attempting to load a 32bit plugin. I am currently seaching for a 32bit version of VEP on my computer but I cannot find it anywhere on either of my systems. I know from the Youtube video VSL made that both 32 and 64bit versions were opened at the same time.

18.Loading Plugins and Effects through Networked VEP 12/23/2015 7:09:53 PM

Is it possible to run reverb plugins through a network setup with VEP? My reverb and EQ plugins are showing up in the Effects panel in the preferences VST window, but I cannot add them to a project or metaframe.

19.Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 (Windows 10) 12/23/2015 5:02:13 AM

The increased load time seems to be relatively new.

20.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/22/2015 3:23:26 AM

Good news and bad news. Good news is that I do not believe the random pops and fuzz are being caused by anything VEP, Cubase, or network related. Bad news is that I am getting random pops when listening to any other audio files or youtube videos. Guess I have some other problem on my hands. Luckily none of these distorations are being translated to any exported WAV files on other computer systems. I might just have to put up with it for now.

21.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/20/2015 7:49:06 PM

Do I need to set anything up in VEP5 or CUbase in regards of the external clock setting, or is this all automatic?

22.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/20/2015 6:11:48 PM

It has cleaned up some if I make the Samplerate 48kHz, any buffer size although there are still random clicks and fuzzy pops, and changed the number of threads to 22 (Which seems odd cause shouldnt that strain the computer more?)

23.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/20/2015 5:36:30 PM

I have tried adjusting the number of threads per instance. On average I have 27, currently using 22, instances of VEP open as a multitimbral instrument. I have tried adjusting the number of threads from 1-12.

There is also a delay being produced after I "stop" playback. I thought it was my reverb puglins, but I found that they are not on at the moment since I do not have that security dongle plugged into the computer.

24.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/20/2015 5:17:20 PM

I am still getting pops and crackles at all buffersize and sample rate values. Everything is connecting and looks good, I have VEP5 set up with all access through norton so I do not believe something is causing a problem there.

25.Fuzzy Sound when using VEP5 with Two Computers 12/20/2015 5:26:49 AM

I am running out of ideas. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
