1.How to reduce the Steinway D-274 harshness ? 5/17/2023 7:37:13 AM

I felt the same. Definitively, it's about velocities.

Try this, just a few clicks away:

Where are you setting the voice limit and the sample buffer size?

Maybe I should explain a bit further. The sample buffer size is usually in your ASIO settings. In that use case, with VE loaded from Reaper, you should set your ASIO driver at a system level/ Reaper level.

Regarding my voice "limit" I wasn't refering to a limit set by me, what I was trying to explain is that, when using 1024 buffer size and playing all posible keys with a lot of sustain, and watching the voice count, I noticed that pops and cracks start appearing when I reach approx. 2200 voices. That is happening as low as 1700 voices if I decrease my sample buffer to 512. I also noticed that this empirical limit is "bottlenecked" by my SSD, which is not to fast (1000MB/s); so I will hopefully get rid of this "limit" by upgrading my SSD to a modern, internal, PCI SSD in the near future.

However, on the Edit module of the plugin, I set "Max Voices / Mic" and "Max Voices / Key" to their maximum, which is 1024 and 32, respectively. If I set a lower limit here, probably I won't get any cracks or pops whatsoever, at any time.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

3.Synchron Pianos User Patches 4/27/2023 10:00:55 AM

Hi, Olivier!

Thank you for sharing your presets. Yesterday, I tested your previous patch and I found it very playable, so congrats for your excellent work. However, I find it extremely dry so I personally add a couple of surround mics to feel it more wet and nice; I will use it often. Thanks again.

What is this fix about?

Hi there! Wow, your reply makes me so happy! I'm glad to be helpful. I'm using the free version.

What I wonder, in case anyone of the VSL team is reading this, is why we have three different behaviors with different performance, just depending if you use the standalone app, as a plugin or via VE. Why can't the standalone app have the 'intelligence' to make instances of the different mics, internally? just like we do on VE.

Cheers.

It's exactly what I needed.  I recently purchased the Yamaha CFX Synchron Piano and just started experimenting with using it in Reaper last night.  Thanks to you, I was able to get it working well in Reaper very quickly utilizing VE (free version).

Are you using the free version of VE or VE Pro?  Do you know if there is a performance difference between the two?

Thanks again!

5.Synchron Pianos with Reaper 4/12/2023 10:28:46 AM

Hello everybody!

After some months tweaking here and there, I have found an interesting discovery regarding Synchron Pianos as a plugin on Reaper. I would like to share this discovery with all of you, in case anyone finds himself/herself in this situation and makes the most of this advice.

I have tried some ways of using my presets for live performance (simple performance metric: number of voices after which cracks & pops start appearing), when using Reaper:

- 1 virtual instrument track using Synchron Pianos as a plugin.

- Multiple virtual instrument tracks (one for each mic) using Synchron Pianos as a plugin. <--- This worked flawlessly for some time...

- Then I started using (without Reaper) VE using multiple Synchron Pianos instances, one for each mic (Thanks @Stephen Limbaugh for the performance tips).

Until this stage of testing, VE was performing much better than Reaper. Then, I found out that Reaper also enables using VE as a plugin, using its "server" capabilities.
So my best setup using Reaper now consists of a simple virtual instrument track which calls VE plugin and then, in that instance, I open a "multiple track (one per mic)" VE project.

I sincerely hope this is useful for anybody.

Best regards.

PS: My current bottleneck is surprisingly my SSD. My limit is approx. 2200 voices with a 1024 samples buffer, moment at which my SSD reaches its speed limit. It might sound as a lot of voices, but when you play Debussy or Chopin on 7 or 8 mics with lots of sustain pedal, it's easy to go over that number. Speed test utility says 1000 MB/s. Synchron pianos shows 625 MB/s on its settings info.

6.Windows 11 64-bit Update KB5023778, Synchron Concert D-274 3/31/2023 7:43:08 AM

Whenever I find the plugin won't work, I just open iLok app on W11 and just sign in and open the cloud session.

7.Should I upgrade CPU or just Ram? 3/29/2023 11:02:56 AM

I use all of them. 2200 voices is quite a lot, going over 1700 is more like a stress test than anything else. But my SSD is only delivering 625 MB/s, that might be the bottleneck in my case, since my CPU load hardly ever goes beyond 60%.

8.Should I upgrade CPU or just Ram? 3/27/2023 10:46:17 AM

I would say yes. In the end, is a matter of a balance between latency and at which number of voices you start to hear cracks & pops. I have a 11900KF and in my latest setup my cracks & pops start at 1700 voices with 512 buffer and at 2200-2400 voices with a 1024 buffer (higher latency),

I would suggest also going for 32 GB RAM.

9.Concert D-274 3/24/2023 9:08:38 AM

I've been reading this post and you are not only right but your opinion is exactly the same that the technician who tunes and maintains my Yamaha U3. The cause was clear for him, as I showed and demoed him the D274 library: the piano that was sampled was not perfectly tuned and very badly toned in some keys.

The sound is delicious but, as a matter of fact, the playability of the CFX is slightly better.

I consider that, provided that the price paid for this library is quite high, VSL should rework and correct the wrong notes in the D274 library and make a new release.

10.Synchron Pianos now Silicon Native 3/17/2023 9:47:27 AM

I would like to know some performance data with this new release.
In particular, I'm considering switching from my beefy PC to something lighter like a Mac Mini or MacBook.

I'm interested in the basics: live performance with no pops, no crackles, and round-trip latency below 40ms with 6 or 7 mics.
I'm getting 60ms of actual measured round-trip latency with no dedicated audio interface! So the bar is not set extremely high. (Planning on setting up a dedicated RME HDSPe aiming at <20ms).

Anyone ready to provide some round-trip latencies with many mics? I would appreciate.

Best regards.

11.My M1 ultra runs VPRO! 2/17/2023 11:45:23 AM

Thank you for sharing!

Do you know if Synchron Pianos happens to run on M1/M2 already? My purchase depends on this, so I am eager to know.

Thanks in advance.

I could see my libraries for the first time on my M1. But here a miracle has happened! I can now use my libraries without needing VEP! How is this possible? I am stunned. Now the VPro plugin does take about 5-6 seconds to load - but hey! Everything works as if I was on my old 5,1 mac. Any ideas on how this miracle has occurred? I have attached a screenshot.

PS - Mir not working, neither is the Imperial, but all other VI libraries work :-)

12.[SOLVED] Record piano synchron using ASIO low latency drivers on PC 8/24/2022 10:35:24 AM

I tried Audacity, unsuccessfully, as well. For now, I use a DAW called Reaper in order to record the output coming from Synchron Pianos, loaded as an FX in a Reaper Track. It's quite easy, although the ASIO part is kind of tricky. I recommend you searching for specific ASIO drivers for your audio interface, or at least downloading several of them trying to find the minimum latency @44100Hz.

Hum yes I will consider the Apple as soon as they will have a soul and ethics. We know that there is no end on that topics. hehe.

I just hope to have some PC friends around here. I am quite confident there are softwares working well but I just need a confirmation by user.

Peace ;p

13.[SOLVED] Record piano synchron using ASIO low latency drivers on PC 8/24/2022 10:28:46 AM

I'm not sure if my question is in the right thread but, anyway, you mentioned Mac.

I have a quite good PC (i9 11900KF, 64 GB RAM, RTX 3090, good SSD) and I'm still withe de CFX 30-day trial. For what I have read, I consider 5-7ms latency (Reaper using Synchron pianos as a plugin, with 4, 5 or even 6 micrphones) quite impressive.

Since my PC is quite bulky, I'm considering either a Mini PC that would be close to my silent piano OR a Mac Mini / Mac Studio / or even a MacBook (still waiting for an ETA for Synchron pianos to be able to use M1/M2 etc).

So my question is: will the <2021 Intel MacBooks get better similar performance than my current PC?

Hello Paul,

Is there an ETA already for the M1 and M2?
