Great news Paul.   Thank you for your prompt response.   Once I get through these films I am looking forward to updating my WHOLE VSL rig.  :) (and of course adding to it with the latest)

Unfortunately VE Pro 7 does not support VST3 yet, so Kontakt 7 won't work in VE Pro 7 at this point.

Remark: It will help if you add some details about your setup (OS, used versions...)

Best,

Paul, of course after these projects ( 2 films over the next 5 months.) I'll update VEP7 to latest but for now I have stay with it to get through these.   Any idea when Kontakt 7 vst3 will work in VEP7?

3.I have a Netgear GS-108E switch (replacement?) 1/14/2022 12:46:41 AM

Been very reliable but it is 6+ years old and don't want to have it fail in the middle of a hot schedule.   They are not expensive.   I have three satellite servers (plus main) - running VERPO 7.   Replacement?  (Need only 8 ports).   Does it have to be 'managed' - current one is not.

4.upping to 1113 a huge mistake here 11/24/2021 4:22:27 PM

Groovevs - thanks a ton for the information.   Given your experience and the 'likelihood' that I'll have to go back to last project for new mixes I am going to wait to update.    I am on W10 but call me safe and paranoid.  :)   Thanks again.

Rob

5.upping to 1113 a huge mistake here 11/23/2021 7:36:34 PM

Can you (or someone) tell me how to 'roll back' if there are problems with an update.   I have a break here until the next project (3 days) BUT I may have to bounce out additional mixes from previous project.  I am currently on 7.0.1056 (works solidly) - I don't have that installer and cannot find an 'archive section' in My products.   Many thanks in advance.

6.VEPRO 7 performance seems counter-intuitive to me?? 8/8/2019 7:12:57 PM

One thing that has perplexed me for over 5 years is WHY when I raise my RME latency (on main) from say 256 to 1024, would the streaming (via VEPRO) from the 3 slaves  GET WORSE (dropouts)???   It seems so counter-intuitive to me.  You think the extra buffers would give 'time' for the VEPRO 'traffic cop' to keep things flowing well.

I have posted this here before and never got an answer to it.  :(   So...........I live with 512 buffer to mix at and if CPU issues come about in the mix, then freeze various instruments.   Kinda a workflow killer but doing it so long now I just accept.

Any possible answers/solutions?

(and don't get me wrong - VEPRO is one of the most important pieces software I own - just this one thing :( )

7.New PC build - 2 ethernet ports - any way to gang them up to increase throughput? 8/5/2019 6:49:59 PM

It mentions in the article this...

What this equates to is if you want true higher throughput, moving to a fatter pipe—like 10GbE—is the only way to go.

Anyone using a '10GbE' for their VEPRO 7 rigs?

It might be simpler to just put one of the slaves on a separate network.

Thanks Bill.  I'll take a look at that link.   I am not a network guy but is there a tutortial out there for setting up two different networks on a VEPRO rig (master and multiple slaves - W10).  2 of the 3 slaves are W7 - if that matters.   Thanks again for the reply.

9.New PC build - 2 ethernet ports - any way to gang them up to increase throughput? 8/5/2019 5:33:37 PM

Bump.   No one have 2 ethernet ports on thier PC W10 masters?   Really looking to improve upon 100 Mbps  Another way to achieve this on Master and 3 slaves?

(interestingly enough - if I RAISE the latency on my main soundcard (solid RME drivers) - the dropoffs happen more often/earlier (been this way for VEPRO 5 and up.)?????   I have posted this issue of course before and no answer given.

10.New PC build - 2 ethernet ports - any way to gang them up to increase throughput? 8/3/2019 10:29:40 PM

I have a Master and 3 slaves.  The Master is new with 2 ethernet ports.   On the biggest of projects i can 'choke' (dropouts, etc.) when all is streaming back to the main.   It would great to somehow 'gang' these two ports up to in essense double my gigabit to 2 gigabit.   Possible Paul - anyone else?

Yea - good to know.  I don't use Halion - but I bet this 'sort of thing' is happening -- somewheres :(

Yes Rob!  That is the exact same behaviour I have even with VE PRO 6......however I can explain some of that behaviour because of a strange bug in the HALion platform (not sure if it is a Steinberg problem or Vienna issue).

I have a tremendous amount of HALion 6 and HALion SOnic SE instances in my template.  I tracked down a problem where VE PRO connects extremely slow to an instance only the very first time if HALion (6 or SE) has a patch that utilizes a convultion effect.  So if the patch has a Halion convolution effect or a Guita amp convolution effect than this causes the slow connect/disconnect for the just the first time.  After that it is fast as normal in VE PRO 6.

Perhaps you have something going on similar in your template which might help determine if it is a VE PRO bug.

13.Synchron Strings I 12/19/2017 3:39:23 PM

I would agree with this.  Not 'loving' the legatos but the longs (and to a lessor degree the shorts) are to die for.  For me, I am still holding out for the new player details.   This library is a beast in size and will need a 'next gen' player to use effectively on a day to day - no time schedules -  we all see.   Very encouraged by this 'raw' walk-thru.

14.Synchron Strings I 12/7/2017 3:10:27 PM

Yea, sorry mispoke on the phasing for sections - what I should have said is 'smooth' transition / evolving from non to vibrato samples.   For me anyways, this is never 'natural' and smooth with samples - like live sessions.   Just hoping and a wishing.   ;)

I would  understand your Point, if you were talking about Solostrings, since one Violin alone do not produce any phasing while changing the intensity of vibrato. But: Synchronstrings I are Section-Strings. It appears to me not only quite natural if you have phasing effects between multiple stringplayers playing the same note especially while they are increasing their Vibrato intensity, I even think that is exactly what we want and expect to hear to make a difference between Soloist and Section. (While  - If I understood right and can believe Embertone - It seems to be even possible nowadays to map Soloviolinsamples in a way that would allow xfade without producingadditional phasing problems.) However for Section Strings increased Phasing effects with increased vibrato seem to me not the problem but something quite natural.

nice demos - the longs are telling (I like them).   shorts are easier to get 'away with things' (albiet they are strong) but the longs are solid.   Looking forward to Paul's walkthroughs (particularily the longs/legatos.)

And of course - is the new player going to allow me to use this in the heat of a tight schedule?

More and more encouraged.   Congrats VSL on what should be a success.

16.Synchron Strings I 10/23/2017 8:22:58 PM

I must say it has been a 'while' since I have purchased a NEW VSL library (and I was one of the very first early adopters years back) - BUT this has caught my attention.  Both in what I am 'hearing' (samples) and the prospects of a more straightforward player to get what's in our heads to our clients - faster.   Of course not enough vid content currently to make an informed decision at this point.   Looking forward to your upcoming vid releases on this Paul.

17.VEPRO 5 dropouts - but can eliminate if set LOWER buffer settings?? 10/2/2017 1:38:35 PM

Title says it all.   Strange that this is the case.  Currently on a large template for a feature and really would love NOT to freeze and unfreeze things continually.   On W7 - Master and 3 slaves.

Have a new switch (didn't make a difference).  Turned off 'unused' VEP connections with the slaves, etc.

I can work with this but the moment I go from 256 samples to twice to quadruple that (to get back CPU capacity) I start getting dropouts on any VEP instruments streaming.

Anyone seen this issue?   Solution?

18.Vienna Ensemble Pro with NI Komplete Kontrol? 12/23/2016 3:35:43 PM

Originally Posted by: Janicek Go to Quoted Post

Okay some interesting news. So I was playing around with this again tonight, thinking if there was some other way. So I hooked up it again in Logic Pro X this way:

1. Opened up the VEP server application on my main DAW computer (Mac) basically connecting to VEP locally rather than on a slave computer for purposes of testing.

2. Added an instance of Komplete Kontrol inside the VEP server rack and within that a Komplete Kontrol instrument.

3. Saved this as a server project.

4. In Logic added a VEP Server plugin and connected to this project (as usual method).

Now as I observed previously, I can play the sounds of Komplete Kontrol from my DAW when connected via VEP, but the keyboard thinks its just a standard midi track so the Lightguide or Hardware Controls do not display Komplete Kontrol values.

If I switch focus the the VEP server on the computer outside the DAW (either by clicking on the VEP software or using VEP to auto raise it) it comes alive and if I switch back into the DAW stays that way, but when I switch track to a non KK instance in Logic it switches into Midi Mode and will not go back when focus is switched back to the VEP/Komplete Kontrol track.

So I went back into the VEP server rack and out of curiosity clicked the keyboard symbol in the KK window and sure enough the keyboard sprang back into KK mode. I then remembered that there was a key routine on the hardware to do the same thing.

So back in Logic, I used the up/down arrows to select the non KK track to force the loss of KK display, then hit Shift and Instance keys on the KK keyboard (Shift is top left and Instance is near the Browse button). Guess what it works!
So basically hosting Komplete Kontrol inside a VEP server instance WILL work, but to get focus you have to press Shift + Instance. It seems that Komplete Kontrol cannot update track focus when hosted inside VEP it just needs some help.

Now what I have not tested is whether this also works on a slave computer as I have not installed KK software on it as there was no point before. Also personally not sure I ever will as my slaves are maxed out as it is hosting Play and non KK Kontakt libraries. But I can see myself using this method on VIs using KK that are currently saved inside my DAW as loading them separately has its benefits switching projects/optimising CPU performance.

Just thought I would post this in case anyone else out there is using Komplete Kontrol and VEP and wanted to do the same.

Janicek - As you mentioned above getting This wonderful Lighguide and knobs to be 'active' in the local puter (inside of VEPRO works like a snap.)   I cannot get the same thing to happen by anything I do on the 3 slaves across my network.  I think this is a HUGE oversight by VSL.   My first impression after buying this S88 / software is how well it enhances VEPRO.   Not since the release of VEPRO has anything had such a time-saving and helpful addition to my workflow (lights/knobs feedback).   Has anyone gotten KK to work in VEPRO on slaves?   VSL - care to chime in.   Please consider this as I am sure it will lead to more sales.

19.VSL site will NOT accept a 'dash' when inputting new elicenser # 1/27/2016 5:28:55 PM

20.VSL site will NOT accept a 'dash' when inputting new elicenser # 1/27/2016 4:40:03 PM

Wow, Daryl - my software for elicenser was SO OLD that I didn't have that option.  I am now coming into the 19th century.   Btw - thanks for the heads up Jimmy.

21.VSL site will NOT accept a 'dash' when inputting new elicenser # 1/27/2016 2:11:09 PM

Seems strange that this happens (of course because it will not accept the 'dash' symbol - tried two difference puters - I cannot register my new replacement elicenser.)   Anyone have a solution to this?   Many thanks.

22.One of my slaves not showing available VSL libraries on load??SOLVED 9/24/2015 5:48:38 PM

OK - I am an idiot.  Operator error.   I have four puters and on a recent studio remodel - I inadvertently swamped a couple of e-lic dongles ( i bet I have 10+ dongles).   Still no excuse.

23.One of my slaves not showing available VSL libraries on load??SOLVED 9/23/2015 6:23:20 PM

Hey Daryl - thanks for the suggestion.  I did that and the Vienna libraries are still not showing up in the player??   Seems strange to just pop up from one day to the next.   Any other ideas.   Again - thanks a bunch for the suggestion.

24.One of my slaves not showing available VSL libraries on load??SOLVED 9/23/2015 3:32:00 PM

OK this has never happened (in 10 years) - all working great yesterday and today on start up and load...VI2 pro load 'starts' within VEPRO 5 (all latest updates) - but no VSL samples are loading?

Checked the following:

1. SSD's are listed on W7 64 bit puter and loading samples to Kontakt (and playing)

2. Cannot 'see' available VSL samples in VI2 player?

3. I uninstalled VEPRO and VI2 pro - no fix.

4. Of course rebooted (a couple times)

Anyone else had this issue creep up?  Solution?

I am all about PROVEN track record the Linksys 108 looks like it will work well and has a good track record.   Thanks again for all your help Mathematics.
