1.Update 2023: VEP 7 Now Loading VST3 Plugins 1/20/2023 5:22:33 PM

Hi Paul,

VST3 plugin hosting works like a charm for the plugs i have. I will dive deeper this weekend, but at first glance everything loads, responds as should.

2.NEW in 2023: VST3 Plug-in Support in VE Pro 7 1/19/2023 4:25:10 PM

Paul and team,

Thank you for the vst3 plugin hosting support!

At first glance it works like a charm! kudo's!

Kind regards,

Rogier van Gemert

3.Kontakt 6 and 7 12/30/2022 2:28:57 PM

Dear Paul and the VSL Team.

Any idea when vst3 is working?
On dec 19 you wrote in this thread the vst3 support is expected next week. Now more than a week past that post, it seems not working still.
Many of my installed plugs are vst3 versions (e.g. cinematic rooms, Fabfilter series etc)
An important thing: Kontakt 7 is vst3 only! so no option to use a vst2 version.
And before you say: revert to Kontakt 6 e.g., this won't work either, since i have diverse libraries that require kontakt 7. Hence the question: when will vst3 support be ready so it recognizes the vst3 plugs i have? :-)

In case you read this in 2023......
Happy New Year in advance ;)

Note i am using windows 11 pro, cubase 12 pro

The Dimension libraries are very nice as well and provide lots of option for divisi. But a full Dimension orchestra is more expensive, not always as deeply sampled as the Cube (in particular the brass), the size of the string section is limited (8 vs. 14 violins), and generally you will need more resources (about a factor 2-4 more RAM, CPU, ...).

The VI pro player is free now, but I would recommend to get at least a MIRx venue since this strongly improves the sound.

Hi Kai,

Thank you for your reply.

You mention that dimension series require more cpu power and ram. That's new for me. But something to take into consideration for sure.

Considering that, I'd probably recommend you to get a solo instrument library, and compare it with the Special Edition version and see if you still find it lacking on any aspect.

By the way, were you using the Vienna Instruments, or the Vienna Instruments Pro player engine?

Hi Guin,

thanks for your reply :-)

I used (when i used SE1) the non pro player (the pro player was quite pricy back then).
with lacking i refer to a less deeper feeling, when listening to the e.g. full VI library demos, vs my own (using SE) and the SE website demos. I might have to do with the fact that the SE is using sample streching (whole tone samples), and the full libraries use half tone. Also lesser dynamic layers in the SE.
Let alone the amount of articulations are lesser in SE (logically so)

But, the SE comment was more a side comment in my original post.
the main question is about which route to go: cube or hand picked.

6.symphonic cube, or handpicked orchestra (e.g. incl. dimension series for brass and strings) 6/25/2022 10:59:14 AM

Hello there!

I am looking into purchasing the Cube (i am not much attracted to synchron series, sonically, they seem not as deeply sampled than the VI range.. maybe i am wrong?).
The cube consists of several libraries, enough for most orchestral uses (although no piano oddly enough).
But looking through the vi series, i also noticed: appassionata, dimension series.

The question rises: is the cube (full) a good pick? or should i go hand pick libraries and create my orchestra.
e.g. swap chamber strings 1 and orchestra strings for dimension strings 1 and 2? same for brass 1 and 2 to dimension brass 1 and 2?

what would you pick, and why?

Ps. i own Spitfire Audio SSO (pro) and SCS (pro), Studio orchestra Pro, Appassionata string from SF, Chris Hein Orchestra Complete, CSS, etc etc..  not sure if it helps in the choice.. but just giving some additional info.

Oh and i have Special Edition vol1 with plus (non synchron-ized), but i always felt it was sonically a bit lacking (maybe because of the sample limitations in SE series vs Full vi versions?)

7.Paul, Nice new VI video tutorials 7/19/2012 7:48:40 AM

Indeed, high quality guides/overview videos. Your voice is also nice to listen too, which is important (since it helps remembering things while watching).

8.REQUEST: more demos for special edition volume 3 and 4 7/18/2012 7:09:49 PM

Thanks for the reply Paul,

However, i mentioned it because it is for allmost two months these volumes are available, but still one demo for each one.

Maybe it had just escaped the attention (can happen right?) because of other duties.

Btw, the vsl products i have so far sound fabulous and i enjoy it everytime i compose with them :)

Ps i like your new tutorials on the new VI too (clear way of demoing/explaining things).

9.REQUEST: more demos for special edition volume 3 and 4 7/18/2012 6:09:54 PM

There is as of writing exactly only ONE demo for each volume, while the other volumes have many.
I think it would benefit VSL (in sale terms), to have more demos up for the latest volumes (3 and 4).

Otherwise potential buyers cannot judge the libraries enough on usability and/or sound design of the contents.
Be sure though that the demos ONLY use the library for which it is made, and NO other libraries at all. OR if you MUST use other libraries along the targeted volume, state so very clearly in the demo popup of the song, which library also is used (e.g. volume 1 and volume 2 plus) and which patches or sounds.

Just a suggestion :)

10.Notifications about software updates 7/18/2012 11:07:16 AM

This is a great idea. I'm voting for such an option (update notifications).

11.Site security 7/18/2012 8:26:16 AM

Hello VSL and community,

Recently I noticed that the website does not use SSL in a forced manner. I now have to manually set https as protocol (luckely there is a valid certificate present on the server),  because i want my session containing personal information to be encrypted as bare minimum/

Another thing i noticed is that IF i set https as protocol, i see there is mixed content warnings all over, which results in partially encrypted session, instead of full.

Can somebody from VSL explain why SSL is not enforced with e.g. logins/registration of software etc. (and why it's mixed content)?

Is there a special reason for this? Or is it a forgotten part of the site (adjusting the links to https e.g.) design/code?

I'm just curious, not to bash or nag.

Kind regards,

Rogier van Gemert

12.Problem with eLicenser Control Center 6/15/2012 11:46:34 AM

I had that same problem once with the elicenser (except i am on windows).

What did the trick for me, was completely remove elicenser software, and reboot, than reinstall (leave the dongle out of the computer), then reboot once more, fire up the program, if that works, close it.. and insert the dongle and relaunch the program. Do also the maintenance part, to be sure the licenser is able to connect to the net and can access the dongle properly. (it will complain if it cannot).

13.Another happy Vienna Symphonic Library user. 5/29/2012 6:50:38 AM

Thanks Beat,

Thanks for the advise :)

I know i need to have patience with this library and toolsets (and learn to master is aswel). But my first steps are looking very promising already. Better than i had with other libraries i've used.

14.instal registrating/installing 5/27/2012 6:15:29 PM

I have the same problem, but as i've read here somehwere, this is because of the introduction of the new Special edition volumes. They are changing stuff in the background that causes this. But don't worry they will return ofcourse.

Update: found the part where Paul explains.

15.Another happy Vienna Symphonic Library user. 5/25/2012 1:52:37 PM

Dear VSL Team and community,

I thought: let's introduce myself as a new VSL user on the community forum. Big Smile

My licenses are for the Special edition standard (with Plus) dvd bundle (now called Volume 1 Bundle).

Anyway..

I want to thank (as done before in email exchanges with Stefan Steinbauer recently) the VSL team for these superb libraries (and toolset, like vienna instruments/ensemble) they bring us. Also for their very nice (and patience) support (Thanks Andreas Olszewski).

I hope to have a good time with the community here aswel (i don't know any of you yet, being the community rookie, but that will come over time).
