1.Synchron String and Smoother Legato Transitions + Cubase Pro 8/13/2021 7:57:51 PM

Erik,

Thank you for the tip. I'm enjoying SY Elite tremendously in my orchestral settings. The library is very flexible.

Best,

Sam

Thank you, Jack, I’ll try that out.

Blessings.
3.How soft do Synchron Elite String Go? 5/15/2021 11:13:17 AM

Hi

If you're talking about dynamics, they operate like all the other libraries in the Synchron Series. They can whisper down to almost nothing. If you're referring to the legato transitions in particular, I am having difficulty getting the transition sound to smooth out completely. I don't want to have it slide like in portamento. I want them to just shift to the next note without sounding like a bow change.

I hope I've helped.

Blessings, Sam

4.Cubase expression maps limit amount of articulation? 5/15/2021 11:10:02 AM

Expression Maps offer a lot of versatility and I've had to do a lot of work on mine to get them where I want them. I've never found the stock maps I've downloaded form Steinberg for the VSL libraries to match perfectly.

It would help to know which library you are referring to and which version of Cubase you are using.

I recently upgraded from Cubase 5 to 11 Pro because I wanted to make full use of the latest Synchron structure and needed more keyswitch levels. Cubase 5 allows up to 2. I needed up to 4, which Cubase 11 Pro can do.

That solved one problem. I would need some more clarity on exactly what the details of your dilemma are to be able to speak accurately to your benefit.

Blessings, Sam

5.Synchron String and Smoother Legato Transitions + Cubase Pro 5/15/2021 11:02:17 AM

I am trying to smooth out my legato transitions so my phrases in a specific passage flow better. It's an aesthetic I've been trying to affect for some time now and I haven't come across any specific conversation on this topic.

I am using Synchron String Pro + Elite - two fantastic libraries. The particular passage tempo is ~80bpm in 3/4 with eighth notes. I've used all combinations of the legato articulations from standard, expressive and agile. I've made sure my notes overlap to trigger the legato transitions. I've applied various velocity layers and am using expression as the primary volume control.

No matter what I do, the note transitions are emphasized. In my understanding and performance experience, true legato is a fluid note transition where the sound becomes the next pitch without accent. At least, that is the aesthetic I am attempting to reach. I've been all around the forum, on VI Control and Beat's site (which is awesome) and I haven't found the trick.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or has found a way to do this? I'd love to develop this skill. Thanks in advance!

blessings, Sam

6.My new Icon Pro G2 control surface! 3/9/2021 6:42:09 PM

I'm hoping to figure this out, too. My Zoom R16 sends midi control data to both Cubase as surface control AND the VI Pro instance at the same time. I tried the fix suggested here, but when I deactivate Zoom R16 from the 'all midi in', it no longer connects to Cubase. Am I missing something?

Andrew,

I'm glad your issue resolved as well. Happy music making!

8.Vinnea Suite not showing as VST plun-in in Vienna Ensemble 2/14/2021 8:57:04 PM

Andrew,

Following up on my recent post....
Problem fixed. Idiot mistake on my part. I missed a small variation in the path name. I now have the correct path and the plugins are showing up like they are designed to. Glad to save you the time of needing to look into this with me.

Blessings,

Sam

9.Vinnea Suite not showing as VST plun-in in Vienna Ensemble 2/14/2021 8:42:01 PM

Hi, Andrew,

I am having the same problem as posted in this thread. My Vienna Suite plugins are not showing up in either the stand alone version of VE or when used in an instance of VE inside of Cubase 5.5.3. This was not an issue until the past 6 months. I haven't been doing a lot of work with it so it hasn't been an issue, but I want to get it figured out. Everything else is working great.

I have Vienna Suite dll's scanned, yet VE doesn't see them. I would love to get this figured out. Thanks! Hope you are all having a great year and enjoying yourselves!!

Blessings, Sam

11.MIDI Ports and Graphic Performance Problem 12/1/2019 2:50:19 PM

Hello,

I am responding a few years after your initial post.  I am having similar issues in Cubase with VE6.  I get intense lag in my midi key editor window when there is lots of cc data and expression map recorded.  Did you ever find a solution to your lag issue?

@FabioA,

I am using Cuba’s 5.5.3 with absolutely no issues from being an older version. I have been using VIPro , VE, Vienna Suite and MIR Pro24 without issue for two years. My recent issue turned out to the driver for my Presonus Audiobox USB. I have had no issues until this past month when Presonus’ Universal Control update caused a conflict. To solve my issue, I located the original driver for my AD I/O on the Presonus site. My system now works as smoothly as I would like.

So, my question to you is...

1. What are you using for your AD interface? How old is it? And, can you locate the original driver version?

2. Have you always had this issue, or is it recent?

Best,
Sam
14.VEP version 6.0.17226 funtions 12/9/2018 9:46:30 PM

I recently discovered another factor, and likely the prime factor, behind the MIDI reception issues I have been having lately between my Cubase DAW and VE, VI and SY Players.  My Presonus Audio Driver for the Audiobox USB that I use was the culprit.  I rolled back to the legacy driver for my product and I am now experiencing nominal functions in my production system.  I wanted to share this in case it is useful for anyone in the future.

Cheers,

Sam

I rolled back to an earlier version of VE from October 2018.  I am now using VE 6.0.17181 and my MIDI signal is successfully being recieved and I can continue working on my projects.  I look forward to the recent update issues being resolved and I know the VSL team will ocme through for us.  Keep up the great work, everyone!

16.VEP version 6.0.17226 funtions 11/30/2018 3:38:06 PM

I recently did the updates for Vienna Ensemble 6.x and now my instances of VE are not receiving MIDI from my DAW.  My DAW (Cubase 5.5.3) recognizes MIDI activity on all my MIDI devices.  All routing is correct inside both Cubase and VE.  I have even tried using VIPro on individual intrument tracks within Cubase and I am having the same issue.  I have not made any other driver or software updates and my system has been working without any problems up until the updates were installed.  I have projects coming due and I need this fixed.  Any suggestions are happily received.  I even reinstalled VE and VIPro.

17.Latest Synchron player short notes dropping? 11/8/2018 4:25:31 PM

Paul,

Thanks, as always, for being so many places at once and on point with your suggestions.  I did more troubleshooting on my end last night after posting on this thread.  I learned a couple things that may help others.

I opened my "system task manager" and saw that Google Chrome was utilizing up to 30% of my CPU.  Upon looking into this, I followed the suggestion of Google to clear the cache and reset Chrome.  It has to do with how Chrome makes use of multithreading to preload tabs and adds and any plugin extensions that may be attached to the web browser settings.  Clearing the cache freed up the extra CPU power and I am humming along at 7% with a full session of Cubase and VSL playing.

In summary, it would appear that my audio dropouts were not related to the SY Player and was, instead, due to a third party app hogging resources in the background.

BTW, I love the new humanize features on SY!  Keep up the amazing work!  I am attaching a newly minted piece for you to enjoy.  I hope you have the time to listen to it.

18.Latest Synchron player short notes dropping? 11/8/2018 12:47:01 AM

I am having dropouts using Synchronized Chamber Strings.  I recently updated to the newest version of SY player and this started to happen.  It happens during live input, as well as, during playback.  My system has handled larger projects than this in the past without dropouts.

Hello all!

This is my first time posting here and I want to say how grateful I am to everyone at Vienna Symphonic Library for all the years of hard work and fun you have put in to creating these masterpiece libraries.  Realism and believability are very important to me and now my projects are truly coming alive!  I have been using VSL for a few years now and always look forward to new videos from Paul and hearing what new tips and techniques are available.  Keep up the great work, gang!

The quality of these libraries has enabled me to make a huge step and put myself out there for works on commission.  I invite anyone and everyone to come visit my website and listen to some samples of my work!  I have enjoyed creating them and look forward to using these products every day!

Cheers!

Sam
