1.VIPro demo activation 9/2/2010 9:04:32 PM

I have it in my diary just before that date to complete the real purchase.

2.VIPro demo activation 9/2/2010 8:41:08 PM

Haven't installed new VSL software for some time so remembrance of some routines is a little rusty but I assume that if I buy the Product I will get 3 Activation codes whereas the DEMO only comes with one. Therefore I can't test the demo on my Host and 2 of my slaves as I would like as eLicenser (Version 6.0.2.7036) says my number is already in use when I try that same activatiuon code on one of the slaves.

3.VE Pro and IP addresses on slaves 11/20/2009 11:35:30 PM

Just to clarify I note that the IP address of the Master is now 192.168.0.5 whereas in the Server on Mini 3 there is a instance classed as 192.168.0.6  that is also connected but it really isn't.

Here is a list of IP addresses quoted by WakeOnLan.

Unknown,,,192.168.0.1,

Notice the multiple entries as it doesn't forget previous addresses until you rescan:

Thus the occasional need to reset the instances. Sometimes you will get an  instance load with all the correct Instrument names for another computer but of course it hasn't got the licence or samples available on that machine. Eg tonight after my Master reboot I got the instruments for Woodwind appear on the Mac Pro whereas they are really on MINI 5. You can see from the Top List above that at one stage MINI 5 was 192.168.0.5 but that number  is now allocated to the Mac Pro. Stuart

Thought I'd update this in case anyone else is wondering...

After a bit of IP research and trial and error, I learned that within your own system you can set your slaves to static IP addresses and all of your VE Pro connections will be succesfully made when you re-open a file.

I am also trying to understand what happens when you reboot your master computer and leave the slaves on. I also have an Office Computer and a Laptop which often "leaves" the network. I can find that IPs get changed if the none studio computers get rebooted. Rebooting of the master has caused similar confusion to that mentioned in this thread leaving Instances which are not really connected being classed as connected and the preserved instance on slaves not showing up as existing items in  the master's server interface.  I need to get to grips with understanding the best approach to this. But of course the plan is to leave the studio master and slaves on all the time. I do allow some slaves to sleep if they are inactive for several hours but then kick start them with "WakeOnLan". This is important before you start LOGIC as if it can't find a sleeping slave it sits there for ages trying to load. Can I safely fix my whole network to have static IPs? If you set the numbers high enough will it avoid confusion if other computers join the network on temporary basis?

5.VE Pro Build Numbers- Have I missed something? 11/5/2009 2:40:22 PM

I haven't been following the sequence of Mac OSX VE Pro releases in detail in the last few weeks. I did however at some stage in the last month or so download a version which the installer and the server state is build 4536. It hasn't been used a lot recently as I have been planning a revamp of the way I work following the completion of a big project using VE3. I now want to move all my activity to VEPro.

Now when I go to the Download Area I notice the quoted build is 4416.

Has build 4536 been pulled due to some problems?

I have a Farm and want to make sure I am using the most stable build on all computers.

6.Migrating from VE3 to VE Pro Has this been covered elsewhere? 8/27/2009 8:52:22 PM

I have a Macpro running Logic and a farm of 3 Mac Minis and my Macbook Pro. I have built some big orchestral templates that will load the correct matrices and patches into VE3. Also I use the technique of routing midi data via Auxillaries to get control of Velocity x fades and other parameters.

Can some one explain if the migration from VE3 to VE Pro will be easy or you have to start from scratch -setting up matrices and patches.

TIA

7.Vienna Suite Au validation problems 4/27/2009 9:41:47 AM

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Although the licence appeared when opening the Licence Control Centre I realised that the Licence Control Centre software was older than the date of the the Vienna Suite. Upgrading to the latest version allowed proper validation. I had to go through the AU manager and rescan the components manually.

8.Vienna Suite Au validation problems 4/20/2009 9:48:49 AM

The Demo does have an expiration date of 19th May  and 30/30 starts but I ran the Wizard - there was no feed back from that other than:

Establishing internet connection and then a few seconds later scanning for e licences.

Still same failure to validate.

9.Vienna Suite Au validation problems 4/19/2009 11:23:12 PM

Have just downloaded and installed the Vienna Suite Demo.

When starting Logic AU validation crashes the AU manager.

Have installed several times using fresh downloads.

Have restarted after fresh install etc etc.

Have repaired permissions.

Still no Joy

Logic is 8.0.2

MacPro 2x2.8 GHz Quad

OS 10.5.6

Download is ViennaSuite-OSX-1.0-r1056

10.VE3 Routing - I am puzzled 5/7/2008 12:31:39 PM

Referring back to my orginal post I would state that I think the VE3 manual needs beefing up in this department ie for the Logic Setup. OK I now have some answers after the various replies but new users may be stumped easily.

Although I have used Logic for years it is the first time I have really used a MultiTimbral Software Instrument in that way.

DG wrote:

Yes, it's a Logic bug. The best you can do is use C11 instead, as this should be recognised by individual MIDI channels.

I should have mentioned that a lot of my Mac Mini WW and Brass tracks use C11 to Control Velocity Xfade and of course that is built into the Midi data going from my DAW to the Mac Mini Slaves.

12.VE3 Routing - I am puzzled 5/5/2008 11:28:56 PM

In the Video about about VE3 there is a screenshot of Play Back which is presumably using using several instances of VE3 each providing 16 stereo outputs.

I notice that each Track in Logic is behaving as one would expect in that the Track Meters are independent.

My Puzzlement is this:

If I create a Multi-Timbral Software Instrument and Insert a Vienna Ensemble Multi Out Plug-In, my slave creates a "Project" capable of holding 16 instruments each of which can access any one of 16 stereo outs.

But

HW Out 1-2 go to the first Instance of the Multi Timbral Software Instrument.
Now at the moment that a Multi Timbral Instrument is created the equivalent number of Auxilary Objects are also (or may be) created.
It is only within the inputs of those Auxilary objects that you see a reference to the Multi outs of VE3 (except HW output 1-2) and HW 3-4 through to HW 31-32 are correctly assigned to those Auxilary Objects.

As a consequence if you create the 16 tracks of a Multi Timbral Sofware Instrument with their different MIDI channels, the Track Automation for Audio Volume will only control the output of the first Multi Timbral Software Instrument component. Also all tracks of the Multi Timbral Software Instrument will show the Audio Activity of the VE3 instrument assigned to Midi channel 1 in their Track Meters.

So, quite simply, how do you have 16 Tracks of Midi Data feeding the VE3 source and then return their audio in such a way that those tracks can be controlled by track automation that is INDEPENDENT for each track.

The only way I can think of doing it is the same as I have for my 2 Mac Mini which host the plugins in Plogue and use MOL together with FW Audio interfaces.

I have a midi track for each Vienna Instrument on the Mac Minis and an Audio Track to receive the Audio back which can then be controlled by Track Automation.

Thus if I attach a midi Instrument to each component of the Multi Timbral Software Instrument I can see Independent Meter activity for MIDI data and If I set up tracks of the Auxilaries being fed from VE3 I have control over Track Automation.

But am I missing some settings or techniques since the Video tracks seem to be the components of the Software Instrument (if you look at the inspector) and have independent track meters.

I am running Logic 8.01 on a Mac Pro 8 core (January 2008) OS is 10.5.2. Slave for VE3 is a G5 running OS 10.4.11

Yes now I can see it. For some reason I thought I had installed the License on both machines. Since my DAW is not the machine I use for my main email the activation code sat in a mailbox on my office computer. So there is a danger in using an Inbox Zero Policy. I had put it straight in my registrations mailbox and not used it.

BUT everything seemed to work without that license!!

I have "bought" 2 demo licenses one for my DAW and one for my Slave so I can run VE3 independent for Logic on my DAW as well as the Slave.

The points are:

I had installed the 2 licenses on the 2 Vienna Keys.

On the Slave Syncrosoft 5.4.0.0 shows:

All Applications (demo) remaining starts 180.

Master Collection percussion

Collection Vienna Ensemble 3 expiration date 26.05.2008 starts 28/30

-------------------------------------

On the DAW Syncrosoft 5.4.0.0 shows:

All Applications (demo) remaining starts 73.

Master Collection....too Many to List

There is no "Collection Vienna Ensemble 3 expiration date xx.xx.2008 starts xx/xx" showing.

But I can run the Local Host VE3 alongside Logic. The License must be there but is not visible.

Unless I have not understood something!

16.VE3 License 5/1/2008 10:42:53 AM
If you have a Master and a Slave (each one of course with a Vienna Key) then do you have just one license for the VE3 on only one of those keys?
I thought I had installed a demo license on both my Master and Slave since my Slave claimed there was no valid license but I can only see the License on my Slave and not on my Master. It all works though.
17.Logic 8 question not answered on apple Discussions Re Piano Roll 4/2/2008 7:26:55 PM

Thanks for that. So, simply,  the manual has not been updated with regards to that feature (page 399) - I wonder how up to date the manual is overall.

18.Logic 8 question not answered on apple Discussions Re Piano Roll 4/1/2008 1:33:10 PM
In the past I often used the Piano Roll view to see all regions at once so I could check start and ends of notes so that, for instance a final chord could have all notes finishing approximately together - If they finish exactly together it sounds too clinical and if one notes lasts a bit to long it is easy to see it with all regions selected.

In Logic 7 this view was accessed by double clicking on the background of the Matrix and there is a menu to control it: Matrix>View>Show selected regions only (can be toggled on and off)

This menu is missing from Logic 8.01 (On Mac Pro 8 core 10.5.2)
and double clicking doesn't work.

Comments welcome!

19.VE random clicking noises? 2/19/2008 7:21:06 PM
Yes I have discovered something similar with the standalone version. I have just taken delivery of a Mac Pro (Jan 2008 model now running 10.5.2) and am moving all music production to that and will post about this and other "problems" in the next day or so.
My cure for these rhythmic clicking noises is to stop and restart the ENGINE in the Stand Alone version.
20.Logic and core overloads - A possible Solution? 1/9/2008 2:51:12 PM

Just found this Thread which I am going to explore. Others may wish to try it out and report how useful they find it. Unless it steals processor allocation from the VSL "Engine".

http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=16909&highlight=core+overloads

Look for the first post by "Logician" and follow it through where references are made to turning the instructions into an applescript.

Ignore the references to Final Cut PRO and scroll down until "Zeeb" re-writes the Script and other explanations are given.

Hi

I am thinking of purchasing a mac mini to add to my main computer to take some of the load off my DAW machine. I would prefere the mac mini instead of a PC so I can also use it as a node in Logic.

I was hoping that there may be people using mac mini's here to run a vienna section on, say the strings. I know you can use midi over Lan, but how do you get the audio back in? Also how do you find the mac mini copes with running Vienna on it?

I am currently running 2 Mac Minis (2 GIG of Ram) into a G5 PPC with 4 Gig of Ram.

Midi is by Midi over Lan

Each Mac Mini has a FW Lacie external 250gig
Hosting is currently by Plogue Bidule with Brass and Harps on one Mac Mini and WW and Percussion on the other.

Each Mac Mini has an M-Audio Fw 1814 interface that gives ADAT and Analogue Audio outputs to a central MOTU 2408 which provides the Word Clock Source.

All Inputs of the MOTU are in use so that Orchestral Placing can happen within the G5

Main Audio out is a Metric Halo ULN 2

(I also have a Muse Receptor for Atmosphere, Trilogy, Chris Hein Horns etc that works totally over ethernet)

All items are Word Clocked together. Occasionally this needs resetting in one of the components.

Sample storage and Record drives for the G5 are the internal drive and a Stack of 4 SATA drives

My G5 has Strings.

I get a lot of Core Audio overloads if everything is running until I dump the mac Mini Audio to the G5 and can then turn off the record enable button on Logic.

Freezing String Track is also often necessary.

I use the Altiverb with Early Reflections on section busses with the Tail on one main wet bus.

The Mac Mini output need to be "Recorded" into Logic as it seems you can't bounce down with tracks record enabled.

Hoping to upgrade to a Higher Performance Intel Mac Pro once I have researched.

Actually it was only after you mentioned the Manual Scan that I tried what I mentioned in my previous post. It was just a guess that I could re-introduce the VE component to the Library with Logic Open before starting AU Manager.

Perhaps I wrote badly but I am fully aware that VI 1.12 and VE 2.0 beta are different plugins. That is why I mention the removal of the VE plugin.

I have now fixed it but if others have a similar problem consider the following.

If Logic freezes at the point where it is checking VE it will never get to the stage where it will open. As I understand it, you cannot open LOGIC AU MANAGER other than from within logic and I couldn't get Logic to start with the VE component in the Library - catch 22.

With the VE component removed from the library, Logic would start and when selecting AU MANAGER the AU MANAGER was aware that VE existed (before I removed it).

With Logic started  I dropped the VE component back into the library and then selected AU manager and manually asked it to rescan VE which was then validated in a couple of seconds. It can now be loaded into Logic
