1.MIR for Film Scoring 11/12/2010 3:16:57 PM

Is there anyway you would consider staggered releases with additional functionality to get earlier releases? For example,

1) Release 1 embeds the VE Pro plugin functionality ie. Audio over LAN

2) Release 2 : 48-192khz

3) Release 3 : stems and routing audio in

Then we can get our hands on it early. I would be prepared to upgrade to MIR Pro knowing that the future releases where coming!

Hey Dietz,

Have you any idea of when we might see a MIR Pro? Even a beta version?

3.Sibelius and MIR 11/1/2010 9:36:52 PM

Thanks Dave for all your help. I will give that a go and see how good I can get it.

If I can't get it expressive enough. I might set up two identical templates in MIR, one for sibelius just with cc11 and velocity on and then export the midi into Logic and have a template that has velocity x-fade turned on and off for long notes and then draw the velocity x-fade.

4.Sibelius and MIR 11/1/2010 2:14:38 PM

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I really want to get back to just writing the music in notation, I think my orchestration would really benefit.

How do you deal with velocity x-fade? Do you not use it at all in sibelius?

Letting Sibelius send velocity on and cc11 events should work well for short articulations? But for longer notes and percussion like timpani rolls, you really need to control velocity x-fade. For example, how do you do timpani rolls in your sibelius scores using VSL?

I was thinking of setting velocity x-fade on and off to cc6, then using the ~CC6,0,~CC6,127 text to turn it on and off. Then have the velocity x-fade liked to say CC1 and using the add continuous data plugin to send cc1 data. Do you think this would work?

Also, do you have velocity x-fade set to cc11 like the manual says? If I have both expression and velocity x-fade set to cc11 and draw different curves in the perform section of the VSL player would this give a good real performance?

Sorry about all the questions, but I am trying to find out what techniques people use that use sibelius.

Thanks

5.Sibelius and MIR 11/1/2010 9:44:38 AM

Hi Andi,

Thanks for all your help.

I was also thinking I could turn velocity x-fade on and off say on CC 6 in sibelius by using ~6,0 and ~6,127 text and then use the Add Continuous Data plugin to automate more legato passages and timpani rolls and let sibelius take care of cc11. What do you think?

Also, as there is a latency using MIR (I am using sibelius to send MOL to Mir on a different machine and then recording the audio back into the Sibelius machine using Pro-Tools), is there anyway of getting sibelius to send midi early?

Thanks!

Like in Logic or other DAWs, the realism of sound will depend on your will to finetune the outcome. Some finetuning steps would be easier to realize with DAWs than with notation software, but you can also get great results with Sibelius.

It's easy to control dynamics with Sibelius. You can also use Velocity Xfade, as Sibelius sends velocity and CC11 values for dynamics. For more hints I recommend reading the "Optimizng Sibelius Playback" manual. You can download it at the following location:
http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

All Sibelius sound sets work with the standard and with the extended versions.

All music you hear in the new "Sibelius & Vienna Ensemble" tutorial video is completely made with Sibelius and VSL software.
http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1348/1594/1245.vsl

The excerpt of the piece you hear at the beginning of the video, is from my composition "Full Circle" which can be heard in full at the following location:
http://vsl.co.at/Player2.aspx?Lang=1&DemoID=5774 (... just as a sidenote: This is "contemporary music" and may not be everybody's cup of tea. Wink  )

Best,
Andi

Hi

Really like your 'Full Circle'. Was that piece created in Sibelius? Or did you use a DAW?

When you said

"It's easy to control dynamics with Sibelius. You can also use Velocity Xfade, as Sibelius sends velocity and CC11 values for dynamics."

Does Sibelius send x-fade automatically, what CC does it send it on? Or does it just send velocity on amounts?

Sorry about all the questions!Embarrassed

7.Sibelius and MIR 10/29/2010 1:45:37 PM

Ok, that's great!! Sorry about all the questions but I have been a finale user for years and I am trying to move to Sibelius. One final question, if I create a score in Sibelius, how realistic will it sound? Does it control expression and velocity parameters? Or to get it really realistic do you really need to export the midi to Logic and draw all the curves in?

I would really love to get away from using Logic and just write the music in notation. Is this possible? Do you have any audio of music you created using sibelius only with the symphonic cube that you can send me?

Also, the sibelius presets do you have to have all the extended versions? I have extended versions for some packs.

Again, thanks for the help!

8.Sibelius and MIR 10/29/2010 1:08:35 PM

Ok,

Sorry, but I need a basic step by step way of doing this. Is this correct :

1) Download all the sibelius soundsets and files from VSL.

2) Copy over the presets for the instruments onto my MIR machine and set up the template. I have WW on MOLPort1, Brass MOLPort2 etc.

3) Load in the sibelius the VSL soundsets

4) Instead of choosing VE in the active instrument list, I can choose a MOL port? Will soundsets still appear in the soundset list?

Is that correct?

9.Sibelius and MIR 10/29/2010 12:24:59 PM

Hi

I am a longtime Finale user but have just purchased Sibelius and am going to make the switch. What I want to know is, can I use the Sibelius VE files you have supplied to use MIR. What I was thinking was

1) Load MIR using the default presets for each instrument, like you do to load Vienna Ensemble in the example video

2) Load the Sibelius VE sound set supplied by VSL, but instead can you chose to use a MOL port?

Then Sibelius would send the midi to MIR. Can I do this? If so, how?

Thanks!

10.A Kontakt question in MIR 9/22/2010 4:09:00 PM

Hi

Say I write a piece that has a string section and a solo violin part. So I create the string section with VSL strings inside of MIR, but I record a real violin for the solo part. To place the live solo violin in the same hall as the string section, can I add a kontakt instance and set it to play the solo violin track but use dfd so not to use any RAM.

Is this possible? I am not a kontakt expert, how easy is it to do this?

Thanks

11.Best Boys Choir 9/21/2010 2:43:12 PM

Hi

I hope this is ok, I purchased the VSL Choir but I am looking for a really good boys choir to match. I have omnisphere and the boys choir in it, is it the best about? Or is there a better boys choir out there that would work well with the VSL choir?

Cheers!

12.Vienna Instruments Pro Question 9/19/2010 9:59:12 PM

Ok, so you can set a default on or off at a patch level in VE Pro?

This isn't possible in VI as it is only at a global level as far as I know?

You can assign a controller, etc, to turn it on or off, but I just want it on or off by default depending on what patch is selected.

13.Vienna Instruments Pro Question 9/19/2010 8:39:36 PM

Hi

I was wondering, with Vienna Instruments Pro is it possible to have the velocity x-fade automatically turn on and off dependent on what patch you have selected.

For example, I have a a matrix with 4 patches :

Legato patch in matrix square 1

Staccato patch in matrix square 2

Sustain patch in matrix square 3

Spiccato in matrix square 4

I have set key switches C0, D0, E0, F0 for each patch. Is it possible that when I select C0 or E0 (Legato, Sustain) the velocity x-fade automatically turns on and when I select D0 or F0 (Staccato, Spiccato) it automatically turns off.

Thanks

14.MIR - Controlling Wet Dry Mix Param 2/12/2010 9:28:34 PM

Hi Dietz,

I know it is a big ask, but it would be great if in the current MIR version, the normal/current mix is set to outputs 1-2 and a dry mix outputs 3-4. If anyone can VSL can!! Big Smile

15.MIR - Controlling Wet Dry Mix Param 2/12/2010 2:52:19 PM

Since we're resurecting this thread! Stick out tongue I really would also like teh ability to send the dry mix out channels 3-4 to route to my external reverb. Then I can have both coming back into my DAW.

Will this be added soon?

Also, how far off is MIR Pro?

Thanks!

16.Vienna Choirs, Yeah!!!!! 2/5/2010 6:23:30 PM

Even just 1 Ah sample would be great! Stick out tongue

17.Vienna Choirs, Yeah!!!!! 2/5/2010 5:59:00 PM

Hi

I see the choir page is now online, when can we expect some lovely audio examples? I can hardly wait!!!!!!!Party!!!

18.Mixing DDR3 DIMMS - MIR related 2/4/2010 11:05:51 PM

Hi Christian,

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I am finally getting round to ordering the memory. But I know very little about this kind of thing so just want to make sure that I am ordering the correct thing.

First, here is exactly my MIR machine

Intel Core i7 975 3.33Ghz Extreme Edition

Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

G. Skill Perfect Storm "Low Latency" 12GB (6x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C8 2000Mhz Triple Channel Kit

Ok, so I need more RAM, 12GB is just not enough. So what I want to know is

1) Is this the correct RAM to order : http://www.crucial.com/u...264BA1339&click=true

2) How many DIMMS do I need to change, is it 2, then I can another 2 and finally another 2 OR do you have to change 3 at a time?

I would really appreciate you help on this!! Sorry to be bothering you.

Thanks!

19.Epic Fantasy Suite 1/14/2010 4:06:39 PM

Hi Guy,

Very nice. Two questions - 1) Are you using MIR?

                                           2) What Piano are you using?

Thanks

20.Mixing DDR3 DIMMS - MIR related 12/26/2009 1:17:21 PM

OK,

So I would need to purchase 3 of them?

21.MIR - Mic setup 12/21/2009 9:01:24 PM

Hi

Sorry don't know too much about mic setups. Which of the mic setups is closest to the standard decca tree setup used?

Thanks!

22.[SOLVED] MIR Room Pack 2 Problems 12/21/2009 1:23:03 PM

Hi

Nothing major but -

1) Pictures for studio 2 are missing in the room selection window

2) Room preview files are missing

Thanks

23.Mixing DDR3 DIMMS - MIR related 12/20/2009 6:18:43 PM

Hi

I have a PC machine that I use for MIR - i7 975 3.33 Ghz, 12 GB RAM (6x2GB). I need more memory, the CPU level is always pretty low but I have used all 12 GB RAM.

I found this http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT51264BA1339&click=true but I cannot afford to purchase 6 of them. Can I purchase say 2 of them now and then another 2 and finally 2 more to take me up to 24 GB? Can you mix and match different sized DIMMs?

24.MIR PRO and Multiple Mic setups 12/18/2009 1:52:23 PM

So, is this possible in the current version of MIR? Can I route the dry signals of the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion to different busses and now have 5 stereo outputs, one for each bus and one with the full room mix?

25.MIR PRO and Multiple Mic setups 12/18/2009 11:46:19 AM

So can I route the dry signals of say the string section to a bus group and therefore to another output?
