1.Legacy MIR 1860 not opening VI-Players 12/17/2012 10:20:03 PM

Dietz and Martin,

thank you so much!

All the best and merry Christmas,

Dirk

2.Legacy MIR 1860 not opening VI-Players 12/15/2012 12:55:16 PM

Dear Martin,

thank you for your answer, which I'd like to comment on as follows:

I'm already using MIR Pro/VE Pro 5 in recent projects. Therefore my intention is not to keep on working with Legacy MIR, but to transfer projects - to be exact: the individual patches, matrices and presets used - from old Legacy MIR to MIR Pro/VE Pro 5. To do this, I have to be able to open my old projects in Legacy MIR, see what I have been using there and build it the same way (by hand) in MIR Pro/VE Pro 5.

This procedure went fine until last week (!) with the Version 2.3.11859 of VI Pro - the one before the current version -, which was recognised by Legacy MIR. After updating to the current version, Legacy MIR failed to open any version of VI Pro still available in the user area. Neither version 2.3.11859 nor version 1.1.8008 works; though both versions used to work fine - until last week. That is why I have to ask again: What has happened here?

Is there a way to help me out? Maybe you can send me a version of VI Pro that (still) works with Legacy MIR, so I can finish my transfer-work? Otherwise (almost) everything I have done with Legacy MIR is lost...Sad

Thank you for help,

Dirk

3.Legacy MIR 1860 not opening VI-Players 12/15/2012 11:00:49 AM

I encounter the following problem: When opening Legacy MIR 1860, selecting "Add Instrument" and choosing "Vienna Instruments Pro", an instrument-icon is put on the stage. However, when trying to "open" the player, nothing happens. When selecting "Add instrument" and choosing "Vienna Instruments", the very old VI-Player in the old fashioned design (which was abandoned about a year ago) appears.

I assumed that the latest versions of the VI-Players maybe no longer work with legacy MIR; therefore I installed the versions before (VI-Pro 2.3.11859). Same result - Legacy MIR does not "open" VI-Pro.

What happened here?

Kind regards,

Dirk

4.VEPro 5 Server not loading 10/28/2012 12:33:20 PM

Indeed, it works now. Thank you so much, Paul.

Have a nice Sunday,

Dirk

5.VEPro 5 Server not loading 10/28/2012 11:19:52 AM

When starting VEPro 5 Server I get an error message saying "Unable to create Server object. Vienna Ensemble Pro Server might be already running, or The requested network port is not available."

Any suggestions?

6.Installation problem Dimension Strings 10/11/2012 7:20:28 PM

Thank you, Paul. That was just what I was going to write, as I came across it a few minutes ago. So sorry for the confusion. However, one can get lost between all these Download Managers, Library Installers etc. from tome to time. Haven't added a library recently...

Have a nice weekend!

7.Installation problem Dimension Strings 10/11/2012 6:24:45 PM

I updated all VSL-software and the eLCC before. I also used the latest Download Manager for the download. After all, the download to my portable harddrive went fine. However, when connecting the harddrive to the DAW and double-clicking on the package.info-folder I get the error message mentioned before.

Do I need the Download Manager to install the libraries or is it okay to directly double-click on the package.info-file?

Is it a problem not to download directly to the DAW and to try to install without using the Download Manager?

Kind Regards

8.Installation problem Dimension Strings 10/11/2012 3:12:50 PM

I downloaded Dimension Violins to an external (portable) harddrive connected to my Notebook. When connecting the external harddrive to my DAW (which is not connected to the internet) and clicking on package.info I get the message "Mismatched format in the installer specification file".

Any suggestions?

Kind Regards

9.Legacy MIR and MIR Pro side by side? 4/18/2012 5:12:00 PM

Dietz,

you wrote:

Dietz wrote:
With MIR Pro you have the option to run it as a seperate stand-alone application (much like legacy Vienna MIR), or to use VE Pro / MIR Pro as some kind of "meta-instrument" directly inside the host.

However, within the description of VE Pro/MIR Pro on the VSL-website it says:

"Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 is the only (and most comfortable!) way to run Vienna MIR PRO; there is no stand-alone version of Vienna MIR PRO."

Am I missing something?

Kind regards

10.Legacy MIR and MIR Pro side by side? 4/12/2012 8:46:57 AM

Thank you, Frank and Dietz.

Some more questions regarding this:

1. Legacy MIR is a standalone application, in which each instrument has to be assigned to a specific internal MIDI port and channel. I do this by using LoopBe 30. When starting my DAW and Cubase, LoopBe 30 is automatically instantiated. Does VE Pro also need internal MIDI Ports/channels (LoopBe 30)? Or do I have to disable LoopBe 30 in any way? I have not yet understood the setup of Cubase and VE Pro, since I have never worked with VE before.

2. What is the best way to record audio coming from Legacy MIR on to a CD (as an audio file)? I know there is a way of redirecting the audio from MIR into Cubase and record it there as an audio-channel; afterwards Cubase can export the audio-channel as an audio-file and burn it on an audio CD. However, that seems to be a somewhat odd solution. Any better way? Maybe record the audio from MIR with a CD-recorder directly?

3. Regarding VE Pro/MIR Pro: How do you burn/record the audio with these?

Thanks in advance for any help

11.Legacy MIR and MIR Pro side by side? 4/11/2012 7:05:11 PM

If this question has been asked (and answered) before I apologise:

Is it possible to have Legacy MIR 1860 and VE Pro 5 (with MIR Pro in it) on the same DAW (PC) and to choose which one you are working with?

I am still working on a large project using Legacy MIR 1860 (with VI Pro's inside) and would like to continue doing so. However, I'd also like to test VE Pro 5/MIR Pro...

Kind regards

12.How to assign cores? 1/30/2012 5:42:58 PM

DG wrote:
Hey, don't drag me into this.....!

No worry, DG... Smile I did not mean to drag you into anything, I just recalled you digressing on "assigning cores" somewhere in this forum... and was right, though.

So what are the risks of messing around with cores in WIN 7? Do you recommend it? Does it influence the performance for the better?

Kind regards

13.How to assign cores? 1/30/2012 3:55:43 PM

Hi Cyril,

have you found any help on this somewhere else in the forum? As far as I can see, the problem has been described by several users every now and then; however, I could not find any substantial hints on how to solve this.

In some other thread DG recommended to assign specific cores for each program - without saying how to do this.

Maybe someone from VSL could jump in here? Sounds like a re-appearing issue of general importance (at least for some of us) ...

Cheers, Dirk

14.How to assign cores? 1/30/2012 11:08:56 AM

I run WIN 7 (64), Cubase 5 (64), Vienna MIR (legacy 1860) and - within my MIR-template - up to 80 VI Pro's. All this on one DAW (specs below).

The programs (WIN 7, Cubase 5 etc.) are stored on one hard-drive (C:\). Projects are stored on another hard-drive (D:\), while the sample-content is stored on two further hard-drives (E:\ and F:\).

This set-up has worked well so far, as generally not more than 20 tracks/instruments have been in use. Now, exceeding that number of tracks/instruments used, I'm confronting severe audio-crackles, distortion and drop-outs.

All samples are fully loaded, so that is not the problem. Also CPU never goes beyond 20%, and RAM has 8 GB left.

What is the problem?

Could it be that I should assign specific cores to WIN 7, Cubase, MIR etc. to make sure that each application runs correctly?

If so: How do I do that (haven't found any tool in WIN and cubase) and how many cores should be assigned?

Is there anything else I should consider?

Any ideas and comments are highly appreciated.

Kind regards

DG wrote:

It may even be something as simple as having too many cores assigned to Pro Tools. Have you tried reducing the number, particularly as you haven't even left a full core for the operating system, and none for VEP.

As I am confronting the same "mysterious crackles" as described at the beginning of this thread: How exactly can we assign a certain number of cores to different softwares in use? I am using Cubase 5.3.3. and (really quite a number) of VI Pros in "legacy" MIR 1860. All that on one big DAW (see specs below). The only menue I stumbled upon regarding the assignment of threads is in MIR, giving me the option to assign a number of threads between 0 and 24.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Kind regrads

16.Dimension Brass in MIR 1/20/2012 8:56:29 AM

Thank you for your quick answer, Dietz. One more argument for moving on to MIR Pro... Smile

17.Dimension Brass in MIR 1/20/2012 8:39:42 AM

In January 2011 a fellow-user from Michigan wrote:

"I can't wait to see how you figure out how to spread the patches for auto-voicing in MIR Dietz.  For instance, in VI Pro we can insert 4 patches and setup all 4 to be in different pans etc.  Then when we play 4 notes we get 4 different sounding patches (and physically they sound in different parts of the stage).  You would somehow need to have 4 seperate MIR icons on the stage to work together as one multi-instrument so that when you played one note it played on violins/brass 1, then two notes it addes the violins2/brass2 which is placed right beside it on the MIR stage (or on the opposite side as I sometimes do to make the violins/brass sound very large in the stereo field) and so on for 3, 4 or more notes.

Is this something you've considered tackling within MIR?"

As of today I`d like to know where we stand: Is there/will there be a special instrument profile for the Dimension Brass Ensembles in MIR? Or do we still have to choose a General Purpose instrument for the whole ensemble or the single players distributed over four MIR-icons?

I should add that I (still) use "legacy" MIR 1860. So maybe things have changed in MIR Pro?

Kind regards

18.Problem with Library Updates 12/20/2011 10:42:21 PM

From where do you drag the files? I tried it once directly from a USB Stick an got similar error-messages. When I copied the files to the Desktop First and dragged them from there everything was fine.

All the best,

Dirk

19.New RoomPacks for MIR PRO only? 12/11/2011 9:33:25 AM

Anyone?

Slight correction: I was wanting to refer to the new RoomPacks dated November 2011, not December 2011.

20.New RoomPacks for MIR PRO only? 12/9/2011 10:03:10 PM

Hello everybody,

just two short questions:

Do the new Roompacks dated December 2011 work with MIR PRO only or do they apply to MIR 1.3 (1860) as well?

Do the new versions provide significant changes compared to the earlier versions of the RoomPacks?

Kind Regards

21.Where is VI Pro 2 in Vienna MIR? 11/22/2011 8:47:08 PM

Thank you so much for your quick answer, Herb. I really appreciate you and the rest of the VSL-Team always being on-line and ready to care for the community.

Have a nice evening,

All the best

22.Where is VI Pro 2 in Vienna MIR? 11/22/2011 8:11:52 PM

Sorry, I was logged in at two different computers at the same time and so my message was not displayed correctly:

I just updated from VI Pro to VI Pro 2. In standalone-mode everything works fine. However, within Vienna MIR (not: PRO!) only the old VI Pro is instantiated when opening a current project and/or adding a new instrument.

Kind regards

24.September discount question 9/27/2011 6:30:28 AM

 Hello Paul,

are you sure about that? The conditions say that the discount is given for the purchase of any Extended Library only. Since the Vienna Imperial (which I intend to buy) does not have an Extended Library, there will presumably be no discount on that. Consequently the system does not show any discount when adding Vienna Imperial to the basket... Am I missing something?

Kind regards from Hamburg

25.Problem loading latest MIR version 3/27/2011 4:21:08 PM

Thank you very much, as well, SyQuEst. However, the last sessions I did not encounter any driver-/detecting problems; in my taskbar I could always see "MOTU 100%". So I assume that the drivers were booted correctly. We`ll see what the future will bring... and might come back to this problem. Have a nice weekend,

Kind regards, Dirk "Thinwood"
