1.Better set of TUTORIALS 4/18/2020 8:53:59 AM

Dear VSL,
I am just coming back trying using Vienna Special Edition ( 1 & 1+ ) after many year of not usage.
Passing to Synchron is stimulating more my orchestral music again.
Vienna Special Edition ( 1 & 1+ )  never satisfied my needs and because the price I did not continue to use VSL product. This because from audio demo I listened something that aftef was quite impossiple ( or it took ) long time to achieve ( ok this is because my ability... ).
I would like to suggest to produce and show how some kind of compositions ( that are shown as audio demo ) are made from yours VSL composer. This will help all your customers and new ones to become.

Would not be a good idea?

Dear VSL gentlemen,
latest VSL products sound more realistic and are more affordable. VSL is a great tool not only for composing but also for orchastra studing. Personally I use Vienns SE (1 & 1+) with Notion 6 which is only one which has some articulation commands, but now that I am moving to Synchron the old frustation is coming back.
So isn't it time for develop a new Software thought exactly for VSL packge?
some kind of Vienna Score, where the composer wil have all right articulation according with the Vienna product which he has?
Would not be a good idea?

Using Notion 6 and/or Silbelius is always a long and frustrating procedure of setting and the perfomance is never satisfing.

Now I got used to this website but in the beginning it took me hours and hours to understand what I wanted to buy.

also me i had so many problems with Vst expression because becaue  the CC11 that's why I work in just little different mode.

try to check one of my post named " How do I work"

now I found few solution that can make the job littler easier.

The Dynamic indications in this way are vere useful and when I retouch the volume now know the values where to start from.

5.How I do my work with VSL ans Cubase 6 6/9/2011 11:06:47 PM

Hello everybody !!

I just wrote this post because finally I found a "good relation" with VSL SE and Plus.
I bought VSL SE almost 1 year ago but I got very disappointed becasue I coul not make my music as I was listening to all the demo in Vienna Website.
So I bought Notion SLE for Vienna but was good only to  study orchestrationand not even to much, and I realized the big problem with legato.

I started to post many messages and ask hepl from Vienna Company but I did not solve it. I was very .. Nervous !!

Also I was working with Logic and was quite complicate to  manage to  right Vienna Matrix, ans then I decided to  go back to  my old Cubase with with VST expression gave more satistaction. and then I started to  get almost the sound that was looking for, but was not enough.

Then I decide to  try again before to  change library ( EWQL ). I bought Vienna Plus and Cubase 6

and I started to  get crayz to  find a way to  obtain a good sound for orchestra and keep thinking as composer ans not as Programmer.

As master Keyboard I use a very simple M-Audio Keystation 61 which is quite ggod comparin the price and also becase i travel a lot good as space.

This MasterKeyboard ( MKd )  has only Modulation Wheel, Pitch bend and another slider which is the control Change 7 ( CC7 ) = Main Volume

So, when I prepare my setup in cubase with Vienna Ensemble and I load the VST Expressions Map the Mod-Wheel does not work anymore

because is driven by Expression Map Messages, so the only way was to  use the Main Volume control ( CC7 )

but using this I got confused becasue it can change Main volume and XFAde control too ( if enable )

.... I hope you do not get bored....
So what I did

for each instrument I have disabled the Volume control and through Cubase 6 ( for each instrument ) I enabled XFAde controlled by My cursor on the MKd.

In this was , as almost everyone knows, I get the "volume" of isntrument according to Bow ( for the string ) and other Dynamics for other instruments.

Better not to  use the Volume contro to Change the volume of instruments ( it sounds strange, I know ), but use the real Dynamic of instruments

Ans so I strated to  get real String passage but I wanted to  use also the indications of Dynamics
like:  pppp, ppp, pp, mp, mf, f, ff, fff, ffff

in this way I can write or record my part thinking as composer and not only by ears

and also for legato  passage I realized few things and even solved.

if you  try to make for example a major scale of A in ViolinS  for lower octava with dynamic like pp or mp

you will get a terrible effect of "Waving" notes

this is real orchetra does not happen and I do not understand why Vienna Company never solved this Bug of the library

but then, speaking with many real violins players, pianist and sound engenieers

I realized, we realized that if you  play a keyboard even if you are fantastic pianist, you  will never and never get the strings legato.

So Vienna VSL is so similaro  to  real orchestra even in bad things , defect.

the way that I use and whicxh almost acceptable is to  use LEGATO and record the passage with MIDI STEP in Cubase

and then always re-touch the Dynamic.

So better I stop writing now but I have still few things to  communicate.

I hope these few infprmation can help some of you, in case let me know.

Yes I checked and also I made a simple file with Cubase 6 using all Dynamic Symbols and so I get all the values.
I am thinking to  make a post in the forum, may someone else need that, what do  you think?

I asked this because I use Cubase 6 with with Expresionn map

and normally I make my variation with the CC11 driving the xfade

sometimes I would like to  use also the dynamic Signature and then re-touch with mx CC11

but If I do not know the prevois values of Dinamic signature is very hard to  get

I rember that once Isaw somtehnog about that in the forum but I cannot find it no more

help?????

for example the snare drum has different sounds and I would like to  know how they are mapped on keybord

I have with me only the booklet of Vienna plus and I did not find anything ???

To  control th Dynamics I use the Velocyte Xfade which as range has 0 to 127

can someone indicate me which are the relative values to obtain this kind of dynamic?

13.Vienna Ensemble and Logic Studio 9 - How to ..?? 8/23/2010 10:33:25 AM

Hello everybody, I passed to Logic Studio 9 and I would like to use my Vienna Special Edition

I tried to load and channel strip instrument ans instance of Vienna Ensemble.

The problem is that instance of VE ( Vienna Ensemble ) is availble only for that channel

How can I use VE as Virtual instrument as I was doing in my old Cubase?

thank you very much for your advise,

I knew already the your website and of course I agrre with you about "full Librtaries" for ful "expetactions"

but I also think that think kind of Strings ( with standar attack ) would be normal to find in initial libraries.

For the moment I have only V SE and I confirm that is the best ORK LIBS on the market now

at least for orkestra writine ( not for film scoring ) but,

Becasue this doubt about how is organized the product I do not know if going ahead to purchase more Libs

Of course as Marketing Plans , Vienna team did it good, but sometimes if you have some clients "picky" like me

does not work.

In studio normally we used Sample strings  dpuble with real Violin ( because the budget )

this is the reason abpout my research on perfet Ork Lib, like it could be Vienna.

thank ypu spo much for your answer and your very helpfull advises.
I am agree with you about full libraries, but
my first experiense in ORK libs was with Garritan ( awfull )
I bought it just to see that is not good
Then I tride Mirosalv, good attack with ugly samples
Then EWQL GOLD, the "caos" of sampling,
i spent more time to find thei right attack and bowing then writing music.

So I hear about Vienna and I listened to all the demo , even if I learnt to never trust the demos.

I think that the attack that I was speaking about is one of the most Basic strings -attack that normally composer work with
and I supposed that it should be in the Special Edition
So now I got advises to buy new libraries without guaranties that this
string-attack has been produced or sampled.
I will watch you video oping to find confort

I tried you suggetions and even more experiment but the defect remains.
But I have been thinking about this.
In the library is present the "legato" sample which has the better attack available, but is monophonic.
why don't you spread and update where the legato sample (of course with differnt name ) can be use as polyphonic?

Can you suggest me a DVD collenciont where I can find this kind of attack in order to overlay to my SE strings?

Dear Collegues ( composer and/or )
Vienna sounds great but the initial issue ( also the name of thread ) is String attack has not connection with EQ.

If you play an Ascending A major scale in lower Orchestral Violin in 108 Metronome tempo and you play notes as 8ths you will hear in Dynimincs like Piano(P) or Pianissimo (PP) a very terrible effect with help to understand when an arragiament has been don with or without real strings.

The bad effect is a "waving" attack and release and if you play that as I mentioned you can understand what I mean.
All libraries have same problem ( Garritanm EWQL, Misroslv and also Vienna wich is littel bit better for ather things )
In higer Dyìnimics this wave effect is reduced but still there, of
course with reverb and EQ you can hide it but only creating an un-real strings effect which is not purpouse of Vienna.
EWQL Ork has thousand of presets and maybe somewhere ypu can fins the right sound for you right strings passage but it takes too long time and energy.

The great advantage of Vienna is the Matrix where you can have or build exactly all string passage you need
but Until now the String attack of Saustain effect is still a problem

any solution?

Your soultion is usefull but partial solving, because if I i make
Violins in DIV ( Divisi - separated voices ) I cannot use the legato preset.

Is the Standar Extension solving that problem?
or maybe the Plus Version?

wouuld you indicate more solutions?

VSE Orchestral Strings Attack Issue

Hi everybody, I just bought Vienna Special Edt.
I nocited that when I "Orchestral Strings" if I play with Piano Dynimics P or PP or MP
I have a long attack in strings, which cannot help me for fast passage
I obtain like a "wave" effect of strings.
The perfect attact it would be like staccato, but I need to make legato or at least to avoid the "wave" effect in strings
Can someone explain to me how to solve that problem?
I use Notions SLE but even with cubase, if I play live I cannot avoit this defect
The "wave" effect is less is I play in Forte F of FF , FFF
but if I need a short attack in soft dynimics I can i DO?
before buying Vienna ext or Plus I would like to know if i possible to solve it.

Let's suppose to have 108 metronome, and you play a A major scale in lower octac of Violins

this defect i common in many Strings Library ( Garritan, EWQL, Miroslav etc. etc.)
but in many Vienna demos the attack is solved, How shall i do???
