Hello,

I'm buying a new PC to run a full orchestra inside MIR Pro. Here is the question : will I benefit a lot from a i7 6800k versus a i7 7700k for this task? Can the higher clock speed of the 7700k (4,5 ghz versus the 3,4 ghz of the 6800k) compensate for the lower number of cores versus the 6800k?

Finally, if there is a difference in performance between the 2 cpu, is it a big one? Like 20, 30, etc, more instruments playing simultanously for one cpu versus the other... Is a i7 7700k OK to play a lot of instruments simultanously?

I will equip my new PC with big SSDs, and high clock speed RAM.

If someone want to share information about how to make a double stop,  triple and quadruple stop real and credible on VSL strings,  it would be very appreciated.

I own Orch 1 + 2 with the extensions.

What is the best way to simulate multiple stops on strings instruments?  I would love to do sustain double stops and arco triple and quadruple stops...

Is there a trick to make them sound credible? (I know the sound and the technique on the real instrument...)

6.Is it possible to see soon a muted Triple Horn? 1/14/2013 6:41:33 PM

 Hello VSL team!

I plan to buy soon muted Trumpet C and muted Tenor Trombonne.  I see that the the only muted articulations available for horn are for the Viennese one.  And they are ''Stopped'' type.

Do you think that we could see in a near futur regular muted type for the triple horn?  I'm still building my VSL setup and it looks to be a big missing in your library...

 Thank you cgerneay for all the information you give to us.  Can you tell me if the performance trill marcato can replace a traditionnal marcato performance patch?

For classical music,  am I right to say that Solo Strings 1 are better?  For fast passages and more complicated figures,  it would be very interresting to see what the DS can do...

From my point of view,  I see Solo strings 1,  Appassionata,  Orchestral,  and Chamber like pure instruments.  Dimension Strings,  for my needs,  would serve most as a mixing tool,  to improve the sound of Appassionata and Orchestral Strings 1 and 2.

Hey William!

I tought that there were no legato transition used in these patches.  I tought they were just mono sustains patches like the ones in the short-long articulations called ''auto''. Hmm

How does it work?  Is it 2 legato performance velocity layers navigating inside 4 velocity sustain patches?  So between each note there is still a true recorded legato interval?  Do I understand correctly?  

If yes,  those are really nice patches.  Surprise

BUT,  I don't see them for chamber strings.  Only for Appassionata and Orchestral Strings.

The patches you're talking about are described like this in the manual : Legato with 4 velocity layers in the sustains

The true legato intervals have been recorded for only two velocity layers.  The patches you're talking have 4 velocity layers in the sustains,  but not in the legato.  It can't be more clear.

Maybe you are talking about the 4 velocity layers legato sustain patches?

These are not legato patches.  These are faked legato patches with sustain samples.

I created this thread to bring up an important point... Like the Boss said : 

With the release of Vienna Dimension Strings, do the other Vienna Symphonic Library string products become redundant?

Our motto, in the 12 years of Vienna Symphonic Library’s history, has always been to develop products that expand the existing product range rather than making former products obsolete. This applies to Vienna Dimension Strings as well. Of course they may be used by themselves, but the timbre of a huge string section, such as our Appassionata Strings with 20 violins, cannot be replaced by 8 violins. On the other hand, adding some or all of the new Vienna Dimension Strings violins to the Chamber Strings, Orchestral Strings or Appassionata Strings expands their spectrum, and their possibilities, in a tremendous way. If you look at it that way, Vienna Dimension Strings will provide a huge increase in value for the existing string ensembles.

...  Vienna Dimension is not a product to replace the older libraries,  it's there to complete them,  and push further their possibilities...  I'm starting to understand this...  After all this time...  Big Smile

Even with the huge amount of time that between the Dimension libraries and the Standard (and extended of course) release,  the only thing that can really make them differs in quality (I'm not talking about divisi here,  but the quality of the samples),  and make one appear truly older than the newer,  are the performance articulations.

2 velocity layers versus 4 velocity layers makes a really big difference.  Performance patches are the heart of a virtual instrument and what makes it alive.  

Since the Dimension products are complementary of the Standard product,  is there any possibility that the VSL team updates the performance patches of the old libraries?  

Doing that would improves a lot the anciens library! That would make them 6-7 years younger!  That would make them to the new standard of quality that the Dimension series have reached.  Then this would be the absolute perfect combination of VSL libraries, both in possibilities,  and in quality.

Thank you again for you amazing work!  The olders libraries are so big and full of ressources,  it would be truly amazing if you could upgrade them and put up to date.

Can you tell me why even with differents articulations,  I hear phasing with the chamber strings when playing in unison?  I thought that transposing the patch would solve this issue...

I don't hear any problem with woodwinds or brass,  orchestral and appassionata strings.  But with the chamber there is a lot of phasing.  Tongue Tied

 Hello everyone.

I need some informations for my next strings purchase.  It would be very appreciated if the VSL team could answer my question because it's crucial for my purchase.

Do this combination for the dimension string would create any phasing issues for the same articulation played in unison,  in full string tutti or partial string tutti?  The number indicates the player,  and when (2) or (3) is next to it,  it means the same players but with the the same patch transposed 1 or 2 semitones higher,  and corrected via the pitch wheel (0 or 31).

Violins 1 :  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8   + 1(2) 2(2) 3(2) 4(2)  (12 players)

Violins 2 :  5(2) + 6(2) + 7(2) + 8(2) + 1(3) + 2(3) + 3(3) + 4(3) + 5(3) + 6(3)  (10 players)

I'm asking this because,  even with the semitone trick,  there is a lot of phasing with the chamber strings.
