1.Laptop for Portable Composing Rig? 8/26/2016 11:11:17 PM

Is any one having success with the latest laptops (Dell, HP. Mac, etc) running a full modern orchestral template inside VE Pro?

On my main rig, I have been using Digital Performer on a 2.66 8-core Mac Pro and successfully accessing the samples on SATA drives via IAC to an external VE Pro instance, but I am open to other routings.  Presumably the Dimension line would not be practical?

Any thoughts appreciated.

2.The best possible computer combination for VSL work? 6/19/2015 2:10:42 PM

You could max out a system from a custom audio computer builder (e.g., adkproaudio.com - dual Xeon 14-core; 128GB ram and 3TB SSDs in Raid), but that is probably way more than is needed

3.DP 8 and VSL? 1/6/2015 5:05:57 AM

Hi Alan,

I use DP8 on Mac Pro with 32GB of ram.  Although MIR Pro (and formerly Vienna Ensemble 64) runs fine as a plugin (presumably on a PC as well), I find I can run a much larger and smoother session by running it as a stand-alone, routing midi to the MIR channels via the built-in IAC driver (on PC use the free software LoopBe1 software) and the audio back into DP via either hardware or software routing.  I can't recall what is available on the PC side re inter-application audio routing, but a quick search should give some options.

4.Help me pick a Standard String Library 3/19/2013 3:59:57 AM

If you can wait a bit, I would consider Dimension Strings for roughly the same price (via the introductory offer) as Chamber.  Violins are super; cellos due very soon; violas?, basses?

5.Dimension Strings Target 10/15/2012 2:41:53 AM

That is what I meant - divisi without dividing Dimension Violins.  A full Violins 1 would include an instance of Dimension strings and Chamber strings, and Violins 2 would involve a duplicate setup but using the 1/2 step transpose trick, so as one moves between monophonic and polyphonic scoring (2-4 lines) using all violins, there is no phasing.

Any one else have thoughts on using Dimension Strings in this manner?

6.Dimension Strings Target 10/14/2012 4:17:51 AM

I wonder then how one can use this product as a string section in a modern orchestra, as a means to achieve flexible divisi scoring in a large orchestra setting?   Perhaps that is not the goal, but simply to either act as a chamber ensemble or add detail to a large orchestra?

7.Dimension Strings Target 10/12/2012 12:41:35 AM

I think the idea is to duplicate instances of Dimension Strings to achieve the desired ensemble size and use your mixing enviroment (e.g., MIR) to differentiate the sound.  I guess to move freely between unison and divisi scoring in the violins, one would need to either use different articulations between the instances or the same articulation coupled with chamber violins in each section, combined with the 1/2 step transposition trick for both libraries.

Any other approaches come to mind?

Can't you just by a FW400-to-FW800 adapter?

9.Connecting VE Pro in Digital Performer 12/29/2011 3:37:00 AM

The box is checked but VE Pro 5 will still not show up in DP.  The server interface shows no available instances, nor a slave address or preserved name.  VI Pro, however, does show up outside VE Pro.  Any ideas?

DG,

I cannot locate an option to connect to local server in VE Pro preferences (or any other) location.  Please advise

11."Herb's Teldex Presets" now available for MIR Pro! 12/10/2011 7:42:27 PM

Hi Dietz,

Do you have a sense of whether the Teldex large ensemble preset will run on a Mac Pro 2.66 ghz (8-core, 32GB ram), together with a DAW (DP 7 or Logic 8)?

14.VI Preset for Complete Instrument 10/4/2011 12:59:52 PM

Has any one come up with a VI preset that includes all available articulations in the extended cube?  Beat Kaufman has developed a basic preset that works quite well, but I would like to set up a template using VI presets that provide access to everything, standardized between each instrument to the extent possible.

One thought is to start with the "Advanced" preset that includes all short and long notes, and then develop a matrix that places variations of the given note lengths on the Y axis (e.g., short staccato, spiccato).  One could then mirror that "length of note" structure in additional matrices that reflect sound (e.g. con sordino) or dynamics.  Perhaps trills and otehr playing techniques would half to go in yet another matrix?  Many possibilities I guess, but no solution that leaps to mind.  Thoughts?

 Super!

16.Dimension Brass Auto Divisi 1/23/2011 5:22:16 AM

I think that is the real value of this collection.  I just wonder how close one could get using VIPro setting (start offsets; humanize settings and different eq for each instrument).  I hope to have time to test that before Feb 15...

17.Dimension Brass Auto Divisi 1/22/2011 10:59:58 PM

Before this product came out, I consiered trying to acheive the same goal using the dowloaded Bb Trumpet 4 times within VI Pro, using slighly different start offsets, humanize and eq settings, auto divisi, etc. to give the illusion 4 different players.

Has any one tried this and acheived any measure of success?  I am curious how close one could get.

18.Dimension Brass Auto Divisi 1/20/2011 1:35:39 PM

Forgive me for bumping this question, but I read in another thread that Dimension Brass "solves" the divisi problem, but I am not clear about the extent to which that happens if one has VI Pro.  Parsing the value proposition with respect to divisi capabilities, my understanding is that VI Pro solves the auto divisi problem, while Dimension Brass gives one the opportunity to take advantage of this auto-divisi capability with the instrumentation not available elsewhere in the product line (e.g., 4 different Bb trumpets, 4 tenor bones, etc.)

Is my understanding correct?  I am interested in the product and like the ensemble concept, but I want to understand what I would be gaining regarding divisi capabilities.

19.Dimension Brass Auto Divisi 1/14/2011 3:30:02 AM

I understand the benefit of the ensemble approach, but does auto divisi in VI Pro function any differently when using Dimension Brass versus other VSL brass libraries?   In other words, putting the ensemble sound consideration aside (granted, a big thing), are there auto divisi possibilities available that are unique to Dimension Brass versus using 4 different solo instruments (Bb trumpet, C trumpet, Cornet and Flugelhorn)?

20.VI-PRO Stacking Chamber Strings 8/23/2010 4:17:48 PM

I found the VI-PRO video re "Multi-Instrument Presets - Stacking" to be very informative, especially how to create a realistice orchestral brass section multi.  It got me thinking about how one might create a string section using 4 different versions of chamber strings with slight alterations to sound like richer divisi string sections (e.g., playing a 4-note chord on a keyboard with each note assigned to a unique chamber strings slot.)

Any one have any ideas on teh best way to accomplish this?

21.Symphonic Library Cube vs. Symphonic Library Super pack... 2/3/2010 1:59:19 PM

Christian,

The Super package has more instruments than the Cube, but my understanding is that any instrument that is found in both the Super package and the Cube is identical in both bundles.  Am I incorrect?

22.next version of eLicenser 10/27/2009 12:35:40 PM

No issues here on a latest version Mac Pro (2.66 w/ 12 GB ram) running OSX 10.5.4.  VE/VI within Digital Performer 7.01 or as a stand-alone.  Latest version of Elicenser   It also works within Logic 8 on my system as well, but I have not tried VE/VI as a stand-alone piped into Logic.

23.Sax, bass, and drums 10/14/2009 8:29:20 PM

I LOVED that.  Did you program all of the instruments.  Please tell me you are a drummer, because if not...  Which VIs did you use - all VSL?

24.Odd Error Message After VE Pro Update 10/13/2009 1:15:20 AM

Unfortunately the "Preferences" option in the drop down menu of VE Pro was grayed out, as the VE Pro audio engine would not start without initializing the interface.  Changing the sample rate in the audio interface's software did not work either except that it allowed the VE Pro engine to start.  Once this happened, the Preferences in VE Pro were available and I had to manually set the sample rate to ultimately get VE Pro to work.  Thanks for the help!

25.Odd Error Message After VE Pro Update 10/12/2009 5:42:10 PM

Last week I was successfully running VE Pro as a standalone, plug-in and server but after upgrading to the latest version, I am now unable to run either the 32-bit or 64-bit version at all.  Once I start VE Pro in stand-alone or as an instance in the server, I get the following message:  Cannot start audio (Couldn't change sample rate/buffer size).  VI and VE 2 both still run as intended.  The interface comes up but the "Vienna Ensemble Pro" menu is grayed out and the "Options" menu is blank.

I am running the latest Mac Pro (2.66, 16 GB ram) with OSX 10.5.7 and an Apogee Duet with the latest version of the firmware

Any ideas?
